Ah, finally SoraKake ends.

I have got to say, the last 6 episodes have been a real rollercoaster ride, compounded by the fact I just marathoned them all in one shot (which is generally the best way to watch ANY Sunrise show lately) and it’s really hilarious to see how the balance of power and the antagonist keep on changing over those 6 episodes, with the only constant in place being Nami as big, or even bigger, as a bitch as she is.

I especially found it funny that Imo-chan served as the final catalyst in to pushing Nerval to become good again and give up on his plan to make every human in to boxes, especially after 20 episodes of us grooming the viewers to see him as a very powerful existence with a twisted aim. The swiftness in which he makes his decision to give up that plan and finally see humans as they are is both surprisingly funny yet natural at the same time.

On the other hand, the sudden change from reluctant helper to megalomanical destroyer of Leopard was pretty unexpected and combined with the change of heart from Nerval, really did make me find it hillarious at first and then awe after it the facts sinked in. It’s pretty rare to see such switch of antagonists in any show and I’m pretty respecting of the writers to do that in Sorakake.

But… all in all, I still think that that was merely to cover the fact that there are still a lot of things unexplained yet about the whole show, such as the true meaning of the ‘Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo’ moniker, the Shishidou family (how are they related to Kagura, etc), Enigma and the Brain Colonies. Kagura also would benefit from a bit more backstory and it’s almost criminal how little airtime Takane gets :(.

Well, that just means there a big avenue left for Sunrise to start churning out a sequel or side-stories of the SoraKake universe and I’m pretty fucking sure they’ll capitalize on that sooner than later. Till then, let’s hope the Picture Dramas will reveal more background details as they come out on the Blu-Rays.

I can’t ask for a more perfect adaptation. J.C. Staff is doing good work in this season of Hayate no Gotoku.

In fact, they even animated one of the manga’s tankouban omake about Kotetsu-kun! Impressive, really. Makes for a real nice change in the trend of anime studios screwing up the adaptations.

Asuka does in her usual way tsundere way express feelings for Shinji, for example feeling lonely and coming to sleep in his room (this is not sleep walking as in the TV series) and confronting Ayanami about her feelings for him (this is after she calls Ayanami a doll in the infamous elevator scene, and it is masterfully played here). She is a compelling character here, maybe even more so than in the original series, and her drive to excel, lack of social skills and loneliness really shine through. She also has some great fan service moments in shimapan and bursting naked from the shower. But instead of pursuing Shinji, she volunteers to test pilot Eva Unit 04 from the United States. Yes, Asuka, not Toji. It is infected by an Angel, Shinji refuses to fight and the dummy plug system takes control of Eva Unit 01, which horribly destroys Unit 04 – and crushes the entry plug containing Asuka in its mouth. Thankfully, the dummy plug system in this theatrical version does not make Shinji watch this.

In that same Angel battle, Ayanami does her suicide attack with the N2 bomb. It fails, and the badass Zeruel bites her Eva in half and swallows it, including her. Shinji quit NERV after the death of Asuka, but snaps out of his funk after seeing the heroics of Mari and the death of Ayanami. He flips out, and goes berserk (very “Gurren Lagann” here). He gains so much power that Eva 01 becomes a god able to rip a hole in the Angel and extract Ayanami. Shinji insists on doing this, even though Ayanami tells him she “has spares,” because he says there is only one Ayanami.

The reborn Ayanami merges with Unit 01 and sets into motion Third Impact. Luckily Kaworu, who has been waiting shirtless on the face of the moon, descends and impales Unit 01, stopping the process. He says he will make “only Shinji find happiness.”

Man… it’s really inconceivable how one can actually spend 594 years repeating the same things again and again and again and again. Hurry up and figure the answer, Kyon-kun! I don’t want to see another looping episode again! (Actually when I read this chapter I had a notion that KyoAni might go crazy and air this episode for 15498 times before we got a new one. I hope that doesn’t happen… or maybe it has!)

Also, Mikuru going “Uuu… Lemme think… I have continued to use classified information to contact the future or to do classified information… Urr. I only feel something is wrong when I have had no contact from classified information for a week. And then classified information… Makes me very worried, so I tried to use classified information and the answer was classified information… Uuu… Waa! Whatever should I do…” was hilarious. And jealous Kyon too.

BTW… was it me or was Koizumi more…. er… ‘brave’ than usual this episode? Kyon nearly punched him! (I would’ve done so in fact, if I was Kyon too).

Oh-ho-ho~ Rakan reveals the identity of Godel! I’d already had a good guess about it ever since he pulled out Ni no Tachi on Negi but this confirms it. But who Godel really is and his motivations… we’ll have to wait for next week.

So much for my TF2 fragging…
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh…

“My TF2 Fragging”

So much for my TF2 fragging…
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh…

Let’s do this over
It’s not like we’re reformatting
Was it something I pressed?
Was it something Steam screwed up?
Don’t leave me hanging
In a internet so boring
Held up so high
On such a breakable cable

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be

[Chorus:]
You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
And all of the games, so close to me, just can’t be played
All this time you were updating
So much for my TF2 fragging.
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh…

You’ve got your dumb updates
I know what they say
They tell me it’s needed
But are they really?
But they don’t know me
Do they think I care about new features?
All the things you keep updating for
All the patches that you download

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be

[Chorus]

It’s nice to know that you keep updating
Thanks for acting like you cared
And making me feel like it was necessary.
It’s nice to know we had fun times
Thanks for watching as I rage.
And letting me know you were not quite done

[Chorus x2]

[x2]
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh…
So much for my TF2 fragging.

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh…

Yes I know it’s not rhyming (hell don’t fucking sing this out please). Yes I know the second half of the song is rather unoriginal. Yes I know Steam sucks. Yes I know their ‘update’ system needs to be fucking fixed. Yes I know America’s Army 3 is kinda repetitive. Yes I know that Agentcy is kinda empty lately.

…. but for god’s sake, I FUCKING MISS MY TF2 FRAGGING MOMENTS.

Here’s to a big ‘Fuck You’ to Steam for their crappy SEA servers. Thank you for your time. Do not waste it any more further.

UPDATE: So I finally got my Steam to update its client properly after 3 days. Guess what’s the first thing I see when I get in? “Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1 & 2, and Portal Update Released”.

.
..
…

FUCKING RAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to patch hell.
