Tsubasa wo Kudasai for Evangelion?

I have to admit, that’s a pretty ecletic piece to choose for the climax of the movie, Tsubasa wo Kudasai that is.

Also I must say, the whole OST has a lack of…. EVA-ish-ness to it? I dunno, probably it’s to do with all the weird uplifting music. I like my EVA OST’s to sound a bit more oppressive I guess.

P.S. Will we ever get a full camrip? I still haven’t seen Asuka 2.0 yet ;_;. I have to admit Mari was fucking badass though.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou

Best rendition of Koi no Mikuru Densetsu ever. It so sounds like some FF-battle theme song now, LOL. As expected from Tokyo Philharmonic.

Probably the more worthwhile Suzumiya Haruhi merchandise to come out, as all music sounds awesomely epic when played by a full orchestra. Not to mention the cool pic of Yuki playing the violin on the cover.

Ai no Sora

Well, apart from providing us with an awesome Megami poster, D.C. ~if~’s insert song, Ai no Sora 「愛の空」 by Kotori is a pretty great song. Hocchan’s vocals matches nicely with this composition from rino. They should team up more.

Hayate no Gotoku! Anison Cover CD selected by Kenjiro Hata

Yeah, the title’s quite a mouthful there. But anyways, the legendary CD is out! The one with Hinagiku’s cover of Cruel Angel Thesis! Man I’ve been waiting a while for it!

01.Nijiiro no Sneaker by Sanzenin Nagi
I dunno, this song just doesn’t appeal to my aesthetic, so I’m kinda neutral about it. I’ve never really heard the original (by Megumi Hayashibara) either, so no feelings about this song. Kugimin’s singing isn’t anything to shout about either, so you either love it or just don’t care about it.

02.Kanashimi yo Konnichiwa by Maria
Is it hillarious that Maria, always sensitive to being called “old” has to pick such an old-school song (this is the Maison Ikkoku 1st ED OP)? Despite that, it works well with Rie Tanaka’s vocals and it’s quite a nice cover of this song to listen to. Rie Tanaka manages to keep the “old-school” feeling of the song while giving it a modern makeover.

03.Zankoku no Tenshi no TEE-ZE by Katsura Hinagiku
Yes, the cover that everyone’s been waiting for! Surprisingly, Itou Shizuka keeps a pretty high pitch throughout the song so I couldn’t really recognize her voice at first. I guess that’s the only way she can match up with Takahashi Yoko’s god-like vocal. The song also gets a bit “techno” makeover, so it’s a bit more faster in tempo too. Overall, quite a good cover. Actually +50 WIN points for actually producing it.

04.Gandhaara by Isumi Saginomiya
Oh god, if you thought Maria’s song was old, Isumi’s choice is even more obscure (to the younger generation at the least). I’m pretty darn surprised by the choice of song too. Can someone t/l the booklet included with the CD so that I can know why? I can provide the scans, LOL.

05.STEP by Tachibana Wataru and Kijima Saki
AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! Is this typical Wataru or what? He’s singing the OP to Mashin Eiyuden Wataru for his song choice. Oh wow, that was hillarious. But it’s a surprisingly engaging song, got me in to its beat in fact.

06.Maharaja ni Naritai!! by Katsura Yujiki
As expected from Yukiji, even her song choice reflects her overbearing attitude. Hearing Hitomi Nabatame sing this song is pretty LOL too. I haven’t heard the original though…

07.Ryoute wo Hirogete by Aizawa Sakuya
A slow song from Kana Ueda. Can’t really comment much on this.

08.My Heart Iidasenai, Your Heart Tashikametai by the Hakuou Student Council Trio
I fukken lol’ed on seeing this song on the CD. Especially sung by the three stooges. Fortunately, they managed not to mangle the song… In fact, it’s quite listenable!

09.Kokoro ha Tamago by Nishizawa Ayumu
So while Nishizawa sucks in the manga and anime in singing, thankfully her seiyuu Mikako Takahashi is able to sing properly. I’m surprised yet again by the choice of song again. This is the Chojin Sentai Jetman ending theme sung by Kageyama Hironobu. More like, HE SANG SUCH A ‘SOFT’ SONG BEFORE OMGWTFBBQ? Anyways, a nice cover by Ayumu.

10.Konome Kaze by Ayasaki Hayate
Hayate himself takes the last place in the CD, with a rendition of the 4th ED for his own anime. I’ll be honest. It quite sucked. I nearly couldn’t recognise it at all. Maybe it’s because Shiraishi Ryouko used her Hayate voice to do it but the original rendition by IKU was pretty high up. Not exactly unlistenable, but you’ve been warned.

The second disc is the Hayate Wiki Disc where Hayate and Nagi explain the choices behind the songs chosen by each character. Quite an interesting listen if you want to improve your knowledge of Japanese modern visual culture.

「Message」//「Yuri-mu Croquette」

Two very anticipated albums just came out.

First off, Collaboration Album Message is, as its name states, a collaboration album between famous video game music composers and doujin singers. I’ve been gleefully waiting for it since I heard Haruka Shimotsuki is collaborating with Motoi Sakuraba for the first track, 「image～心像～」, and oh boy I am not disappointed.

「image～心像～」 just sounds so calming and epic at the same time it’s truly a dream pairing between two of my favourite music producers presently. The rest of the album seems pretty standard fair to me, but I have been only looping image and the other tracks from Yuri-mu Croquette, so I may not have judged them fairly.

This brings me to the other album, Ga-Rei Zero image album, Yuri-mu Croquette. I’ve been anticipating this album solely for the Yousei Teikoku song, 霊喰い, played during the heart-wrenching battle between Yomi and Mei. God I can’t stop looping it. It’s been a while since I’ve had my fix of Yousei Teikoku and 霊喰い really satisfies that. The three songs, AI, if, Reincarnation are also good too, and I believe the last track is the one used in the final episode where Kagura kills Yomi. Can’t help but to BAWWWWWWW whenever I hear those songs.

Nyan Nyan Service Medley TOKU MORI

If there’s ever a reason to buy Nyan Tama, Nyan Nyan Service Medley (Toku Mori) warrants more than enough to justify the 3800 yen. It has Iteza, Triangler and… SHERYL SINGING AIMO!

Why couldn’t they have used this version in the final episode instead? :(

Damn. Awesome song is awesome. How awesome? Awesome enough for me loop it along with Ame ga Furu for the past 3 hours and karaoke’ing it awesomely. Thank god the house is empty except for me… wait it looks like it’s gonna rain…

Oh, the C/W song, Shiawase Sagashi, is very nice too. Haruka Tomatsu might just be the next Minorin if this keeps up. There’s still the Kannagi ED to look forward to her showing off her awesome vocal range.

Surprisingly additive. I guess the combination of Kugyuu, Hocchan and KitaEri kinda cancels their individual vocal weaknesses out. It also doesn’t help the song’s beat is quite pop-techno and the lyrics are fun as well.
