Impressions on Negima Live Action Episode 1
Oh yes, I am a f-cking SAINT! I managed to watch the first episode of the Negima Live Action. I’m lazy to type out the review, so just read the condensed chatlog of my impressions.

せっちゃん!その服,かわいい~~~!!!!! (lit.: Secchan~~ sono fuku,kawaiii~~~~~!!!!!!)
Ahh… it’s been a while since I blogged about Negima. Good thing the good people of AQS revived back. Hopefully, I can see more regular releases from them.
Ganbatte! AQS-dan 2nd generation!
So yeah, no Negi appearance this time and neither the rest of the “core” girls too. It’s another “random character development” chapter and Akashi “The Kid” Yuuna is the focus this time. So it looks like her skills with the gun might just not be only talent…

Of course, Akamatsu being Akamatsu, we start off nice and easy with a undies-only shot of Yuuna. She’s one healthy girl…. definitely one healthy girl.
Again, I reiterate, the manga version of Negima remains superior, with the current Asuna-in-training arc. A bit of a filler chapter this time round, which means a lot of moe fanservice and Akamatsu is on a roll with this issue.
Starting off light, we have some KonoSetsu action of our dear ojou-sama trying to “heal” her loyal protector’s wounds….

After getting pwned by Negi in the previous chapter, Eva offers to become Asuna’s instructor as well…
Yay! Evangeline-chan in her trademark gothloli style in full swing this chapter. More Asuna development also as she enters that “I thought I was strong but I’m not” phase typical of most shounen manga prior to the “power-up” stage.

Finally some real development! KonoSetsu chuu~~ chuu~~ XD!
Haha, anyways, the clincher of this chapter is more bits of Asuna’s past being revealed to us, and it seems she’s some kind of princess. Her real name’s revealed too, and if Evangeline Athanasia “Kitty” Katherine McDowell was long… Asuna’s one is even better :P.

Also, thank heavens for the new arc getting started finally. I have to admit, the Chao arc got dragged on too long without much “real” development, and the arc’s closure brought on more questions than anything, making it feel more like a “side quest” than part of the main plot. There’s already much pressing questions that I, as a fan, would like to see answers to, such as Asuna’s past, Nagi’s true fate and more of the AAA. I’m glad to see that Akamatsu is going back on track, especially since the other Negima media is really sucky and the manga is still where the real story is.
3-14-07 (1:40AM EDT)—- Negima Drama In Doubt?
Yesterday’s blog entry over at actress Ai Tanimoto’s journal that mentions Negima will become a live action TV drama at some point in the future has been deleted. With the only source for the news now having fallen by the wayside, where does the idea of such a project currently stand? One opinion is that the news has to be genuine because according to Tanimoto’s comments she had a confirmed role in the series, passing some audition screening stage. The thinking being that no professional thesbian worth his or her salt would be caught dead prattling about online about getting a role that didn’t exist. On the one hand we have the record low TV ratings that have plagued the 2nd season of the anime in Japan. Can further renditions and extrapolations of the story endure economic viability? On the other we have series creator Ken Akamatsu who made a web journal entry back on February 27th indicating “There is an announcement that will become a big surprise when April comes. It is a project that has not been done before.” Meanwhile, an entry by the President of Negima rights manager Marvelous Entertainment over at their site mentions “The next term will also involve enriching the lineup of cost conscious live action dramas.” Still other uncofirmed fan rumors state the drama will happen in 2008 and to look in a future issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine (where the manga serializes) for the official announcement.
Still not very good news. The anime industry is a very dangerous place to get too famous.

3-12-07 (8:26PM EDT)—- Negima To Be Dramatized
Ken Akamatsu has mentioned his Negima manga will be adapted to live action drama at some point in the near future in a blog entry made on March 13th.
I’ll just say one thing….
OH GOD NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
… damn I hate over-commercialization.

Admitedly the last two chapters have been somewhat lacklustre to me, but this chapter is really funny desu. Chiu shows off her Artifact’s powers, which basically allows her to manifest herself in the electronic ocean and use _mahou shoujo_ powers. Very fitting. Ample fanservice is back too. It was also fun to see the cyber battles too.
Oh, and Eva makes a long due appearance finally, but it looks like she’ll not be playing a big role in the arc yet. Wonder if she’ll relent and help out for the end boss. Seriously the Chao arc is not that interesting compared to the previous Martial Arts Tournament one. And I’m bored of the _gakuensai_ too…. Only 3 days has passed in the manga since, like what , Chapter 100?
