Today, I should’ve written entries for sixth episodes of Ninomiya-kun, CLANNAD and Shana II, but instead I went out the whole day, blew RM1000 (okay, half of it wasn’t mine) and watched the Stardust movie.

This post will primarily be about Stardust, since it was the most enjoyable thing today really. The movie is definitely the best of all the (oh say, 3 or 4) movies I’ve watched this year so far, and I was actually quite expecting it. It surely didn’t disappoint, thankfully. It had endearing characters and a well-done fantasy setting that’s not too cliched nor too complicated to understand in the short running time of the movie. It also had some really awesome dialogue and really well done humor all round, especially Captain Shakespeare, god he was a real riot. Best of all? Yvaine is a tsundere! XD.

Well, that out of my system, rest be assured, normal blogging will resume tomorrow or soon. Quite a backlog I’ve accumulated today :P.

I finished the book today. Gotta love the community. There will be spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned.

First off… it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it did a pretty admirable job of closing the series pretty well and tying up some of the loose ends, but it did had its weak parts, like the Deathly Hallows concept that got introduced in this book, which I pretty much felt rather under-utilized, but it had some brilliant parts to it, I’ll admit.

Next, as expected, the death count was pretty high, and some people I would have wished to stay alive died. Poor Mad-Eye died valiantly, as did Fred Weasley, and most sadly of all, Remus and Tonks, who just had their first and only child. None of the main trio died, but there wouldn’t be a tear coming from me if Ron conked, XD. Many others died as well, but remain mostly as statistics rather.

On to the procession of the plot, like all HP books, Deathly Hallows suffers from a rather slow and long-winded start, compounded more in this book by the fact that the initial half of the book has Harry and co. spending a lot of time in hiding and trying to find the Horcruxes, of which, oh-so-admirable Dumbledore didn’t leave any clues for them at all. There were some highlights, like the Ministry of Magic break-in and the later Gringotts one, which was pretty dramatic and probably would be a legend in the Potter-verse for the subsequent generations of wizards and witches to hear about.

It all does build up to an exciting final showdown staged at none other than Hogwarts, and once this book receives the movie treatment, I’m pretty sure this would be pretty flashy SF-charged part. Here, Rowling ties up many major plot lines and reveals that Snape was in love with Potter’s mom and the fact Dumbledore intended for Harry to die because he is the last Horcrux. Pretty sure some of the more speculative fans have already predicted it, but it was a nice twist IMO on how it was revealed.

The last face-off with Voldemort was a downer actually, and he went down pretty quickly instead of having an all-out battle. On the other hand, it was brilliant in the way he went down as it was done by the machinations of Dumbledore. But I salute Neville Longbottom for dealing one of the final blows to Voldemort. The way he did it was no less impressive than awesome.

Anyways, the book finally ends with a 19 year time jump and with the second generation of the main characters in play, there is many a possibility of spinoffs and sequels involving them. Knowing that in this world of commercialization, it would be pretty criminal of JK Rowling not to revisit the series again. I’m still rather sad that “scar” wasn’t the last word in the book, but well, it was pretty close I guess.

And thus ends a 10 year journey and fascination of the world with one of the literary world’s most famous character in recent times. While the HP series has had it’s up and downs, it was, no less, a fun ride and generated many a nice conversation topic when it was convenient. I applaud J.K. Rowling for all the effort she has put in and wish her the best in any of her future ventures, literary or not.

[23:25] [bj0rn] i asked
[23:25] [bj0rn] how did tripeman come about
[23:25] [bj0rn] he said
[23:25] [bj0rn] 2 is better than 1
[23:25] [bj0rn] but 3 is better
[23:25] [bj0rn] and u can use it as a tripod
[23:26] [bj0rn] imagine ur lazy to stand
[23:26] [bj0rn] u juz need to lie forward
[23:26] [bj0rn] and do a superman pose
[23:26] [bj0rn] with the “tripod”
[23:26] [bj0rn] supporting u
[23:26] [bj0rn] LOL
[23:26] [Crest] wait
[23:26] [Crest] if the tripod moves
[23:26] [Crest] so you can rotate stationary?
[23:26] [Crest] like those rotating restaurants
[23:26] [bj0rn] yes
[23:26] [bj0rn] in fact
[23:26] [bj0rn] it can be a ride
[23:26] [bj0rn] for merry go round
[23:26] [bj0rn] or better
[23:27] [bj0rn] well`
[23:27] [bj0rn] his tripod
[23:27] [bj0rn] can be used as a helicopter too
[23:28] [bj0rn] so its really a useful tool
[23:28] [bj0rn] the tripeman
[23:28] [bj0rn] when TJ uses it as a fan too
[23:28] [bj0rn] and as it spins
[23:28] [bj0rn] he sings
[23:28] [bj0rn] GURU GURU MAWARU
[23:28] [bj0rn] GURU GURU MAWARU
[23:35] [Crest] so tripeman can be anything?
[23:35] [bj0rn] almost
[23:36] [Crest] amazing
[23:36] [Crest] can it do what the vibrator for the ipod does?
[23:36] [Crest] as well?
[23:36] [bj0rn] yes
[23:36] [bj0rn] in fact
[23:36] [bj0rn] u can split it into 3
[23:37] [bj0rn] it can be used as a egg beater
[23:37] [bj0rn] chopsticks

I think the anime gods have been reading my blog lately, as moetron reports that Hayate the Combat Butler will be given the anime treatment.

No cast list has been given out…. but I will god damned pray and even sacrifice a cow or two to have my dream cast list given the roles, and please, for all and any god’s sake, PLEASE, don’t let Gonzo or XEBEC near it (/me prays for BONES, J.C. Staff or KyoAni).
