I’m getting ENTANGLED with old shows..

Right after rewatching the entirety of Utawarerumono in all its 1080p glory (good start, enjoyable middle, terrible ending, Karura was the best thing of the show), I’m embarking on another 2006 show, Zegapain. As to why do I always do this whenever I have a upcoming dateline for my assignments, I probably have a good idea why but will never admit to it fully.

I wonder how many people still remember this show. Sunrise show nonetheless, it was truly one of the best shows I watched that year. Hey maybe I might make another 2 or maybe 3, and god forbid it, FOUR more people watch that show, with this post of mine, har har.

Well, there’s a ton of reasons why you should watch the show really, for instance, Ayako Kawasumi’s engaging performance as Misaki Shizuno (god, I love it when she plays this type of roles) as well as the seiyuu debut of Kana Hanazawa as Ryoko Kaminagi. Too bad her talents have been pretty wasted so far. None of them have the prominence of the character she played during this show.

Another good reason to watch the show is also how it slowly starts out in a “normal” world, but scatters many hints on the true nature of it that is slowly but surely revealed before the first half of the episode ends. It’s still pretty awesome how they reveal to Kyo and the viewers that the Earth has been conquered by the Gardsorm and all humans have been essentially wiped out, and everyone in Maihama city is actually quantum data bodies stored inside quantum servers. The interesting usage of quantum physics theory also makes Zegapain a fun watch for sci-fi fans.

Of course, this show is one of the last good shows made by Sunrise before they succumbed to the marketing monster that is Code Geass. Probably one of the last shows that Sunrise managed to crank out before the Bandai marketing executives fully took over Sunrise’s creative department and forced the continuation of the farcical writing that was Gundam SEED Destiny to extend to Code Geass R2, ｗｗｗｗｗｗｗｗｗ. (OK, I actually meant this joke. Not the quality of the animation or whatever. I wasn’t being totally clear here earlier, so gomen~)

Now… normally I don’t post North American license announcements since I’m halfway round the globe from there anyways, but this just cracks me up.

ADV to Release Utawarerumono (2006-08-05 12:41:20)
ADV announced that they have licensed Utawarerumono, which will be released in North America under the name Shadow Warrior Chronicles. It is expected to be released early 2007.

ADV Films has announced that they have acquired Shin Angyo Onshi and will release it under the name “Blade of the Phantom Mask.”

ADV seems to be on a roll here. Haven’t watched it, but I’m pretty sure that’s still a totally lame name.

…. fucking win episode…. pure fucking win…. I almost died from laughter. This episode is to Utawarerumono what episode 14 was to Fate/Stay Night.

We really need more “kidnapping the harem owner” scenes in harem animes, on the lines of this.

Have you ever had a Bridget moment?

Let me say it first, I am not exactly a “one really confused Dori and Gura fan”. I voted fully on the realization of who they really are and I’m not exactly proud of it. Still… among the Utawarerumono characters, it seems that they’re the only ones I like among the girls… of which the rest are, somewhat lacking in moe factors. But then again, I’m not exactly crazy on Utamono as well… it’s just that if I had to choose a favourite characters from that series, I’d choose those two.

Of course… a Dori and Gura post must have the song, _the_ song.
