UPDATE: News is confirmed. Movie project is to be a trilogy spanning a few years. Movies 1 and 2 are retelling/compilation of the TV series, and 3 will be entirely original. >MFFW it’s a fucking trilogy. >MFFW I will still buy all the blu-rays when they come out ORZ

Man, this was well worth the wait. The BD versions of 11 and 12 were deliciously upgraded, especially 12. Especially the floating in space scene between Madoka and Homura. Very nice, SHAFT. Very nice indeed.

*ahem*

The final OST also includes all the awesome tracks from 11 and 12, and dear god I don’t know how many times I’ve looped Surgem identidem and Sagitta luminis over the past 3 days. Just those two tracks… damn, it’s really sad now that’s it’s all finally out. Though I find it quite funny that the Walpurgisnacht theme plays right after Sagitta luminis in the OST. Weird arrangement. Intentional or… ?

For some reason, I had a really horrible delay on getting my package, no thanks to the shitty timing of the DHL couriers. Coming way too early, not calling me when they couldn’t get anyone at home, delivering at the wrong times even though I prearranged it. Then to top it off, the box was practically disintegrating when I finally collected it personally from them. Never had I been so thankful of Amazon.JP’s packaging before. Helps too that the blu-ray packaging itself is pretty damn robust :P.

Of course, while this finally ends the series proper, there is still more of the Madoka-verse in the form of Kazumi Magica and even Urobuchi himself has said he’s writing something more for this franchise. Not quite sure whether to welcome the news or not, but Puella Magi Madoka Magica has definitely sealed its place in the Anime Hall of Fame.

And dear god I wish I could set the BD 6 top menu as my wallpaper. I sooooo wish.

Finally, the long awaited blu-ray version of episode 10! Not sure if it was a good or bad thing, but there wasn’t much major changes(as in full redraws, different angles etc etc) in the blu-ray version compared to the TV version, even when I used the original MBS airing. Mostly background changes, adjusted the lighting here and there, but otherwise it’s pretty much the same as episode 10 in the TV version, especially for those who watched the “fixed” airing on Nico/CBC.

Episode 9 had quite a bit though, mainly during Kyoko vs Octavia’s fight. They really went all out to redraw that fight. A lot of fixed backgrounds as well, though most of the meduka moments are left intact, as usual.

The drama CD that came with this BD is probably the best so far, although all three are equally entertaining in their own rights. Farewell Days is actually a prequel of sorts, telling how Kyoko and Mami first met each other, way back when Kyoko first became a Puella Magi. I was quite surprised to know that she mostly learned how to fight properly from Mami herself. For some reason, I always had an impression of her actually becoming a Puella Magi a looooooooong time ago (say, half a century?) thanks to the flashback in episode 7. Turns out she was only ahead of Madoka and co by one year… or maybe they are retrofitting.

Nevertheless, that drama CD really make me want a Kyouko x Mami prequel OVA now. ヽ( >∀<)ﾉ AHAHA AHAHA AHAHAHAHA

One more volume left! Cannot wait for Madoka-sama’s episode!

… and now, I have collectively spent almost RM 1,000 (~340USD) on an anime series. Tohohohoho.

Anyways, as a proud owner of a PS3, I can immediately watch it and oh wow, SHAFT really redrew quite a bit for both episodes 7 and 8. Some of the scenes were even quite okay in the TV series but SHAFT just redrew them from a proper angle. Some of the really noticeable ones included;

from episode 7: Homura talking to Madoka on the school rooftop, the fight with Elsa Maria also added more blood for extra brutality effect.
from episode 8: the fountain in the park scene where Kyubey almost got Madoka to contract with him, honeycomb-ed Kyubey turning black, the scene with Kyouko trying to comfort Sayaka but instead sees her Witch transformation.

Weirdly enough, some of the “meduka”-quality scenes were left untouched. I wonder why….

The OST isn’t as memorable as the first one for me though, seems like they put in all the grim and sad tracks in to this volume.

Another month, another Madoka, another 12k yen gone….

I really need to get myself a blu-ray player though. I haven’t opened a single one of my Madoka blu-rays yet ORZ.

The bonus CD that came along with this, in case you missed yesterday’s post, is a special CD drama of the cast done in slice-of-life style. Surprisingly well worth it.

Next month… OST Vol.2 FUCK YEAH!!

Oh god this Drama CD is fucking win. FUCKING WIN.

Imagine slice-of-life Madoka. Yes, this whole Drama CD is a what-if Madoka was Hidamari Sketch… HEY, WHY IS IT SUDDENLY RAINING? I CAN’T SEE ANYTHING THROUGH MY WET EYES.

*Ahem*. Uh, basically this is set where everyone didn’t die and Kyubey is more of the perverted and idiot mascot character cat. Much lulz were had when everyone kept admonishing him to act more like a pet instead of a evil, manipulative alien bastard. And getting fed cat food only, LOL.

Meanwhile the plot is basically Madoka and Sayaka getting bad grades after signing up to the Puella Magi Corps. So they decide to head to Mami’s place for a revision meetup, joined by Homura and Kyouko. It gets interrupted when QB senses Hitomi’s screaming and they rush over to find a underwear thief “familiar”…. that turns out to be a cat (DAT BLACK CAT) stealing panties to make itself a bed. After dealing with the stolen panties (Sayaka!), the rest adjourn back home for dinner… and everyone lived happily ever after! WHY IS IT STILL RAINING?

Highlights:

• Madoka: “I’ve turned in to an idiot after becoming a Puella Magi!”
• Sayaka: “37 points! Isn’t that close! Look at me, I’ve only got 28 marks… ahaha”
• Hitomi volunteering to lend her notes to Madoka and Sayaka because she wants to fight equally with her “rival”. Rejected by Sayaka outright of course… :P
• Homura’s “ufu” after Sayaka asks her which timeline she’s from.
• Kyouko: Sayaka. IZU. VERI. FOORISHU.
  Kyouko: OH MAI GODDO
• Sayaka suggesting Homura stop time in the middle of the exam, causing everyone else to look at her with pitiful eyes.
• Sayaka: “I got it! That’s an underwear thief familiar!”
• Kyouko not understanding why someone would steal used panties. Awwww…. Kyouko, why still so innocent? T_T
• Mami unleashing Tiro Finale on the cat, which missed it and later getting made fun of it by Kyoko.
• Sayaka volunteering to return Hitomi’s stolen panties, but after smelling it out thoroughly…. ^^;;;
• Mami being the Hiro of the group. Marry me, Mami!
• Sayaka: Mado-tan… oicchi dechu ka? ← wwwww
• Homura telling Madoka that her ultimate attack names are lame. Ouch.
• Finally, Kyubey appearing in the middle of Madoka’s bath time. “Being a Puella Magi is really troublesome after all!” OH KYUBEY YOU PERVERTED CAT.

Too bad it’s so short… only 22 minutes T_T.

Finally got it. A little disappointed DHL took 3 days to deliver it to me, but oh well.

The original soundtrack is only disappointing in how short it is but otherwise finally getting the clean versions of the BGM’s of the show really feels good.

Actually these arrived on Tuesday, but I didn’t really have time to take them out of the Amazon box until now. And then I realize even the shrink-wrap is part of the packaging and get lazy to open it :P.

But oh well, this is the “collector’s edition” anyways. Maybe I will be able to sell this off YJA for a crazy price in 5 years time. Probably will get myself the proper copy later when it’s actually released www

Remembering the halcyon days when we first met…

• LOL, first thing upon starting Drama CD? Black cat from OP. So… the black cat DOES exist!
• Drama CD is set in original timeline. Homura is Moemura and Madoka is just your average junior Puella Magi.
• Moving on.. events are the same as episode 10, Moemura introduced to the class, etc. etc.
• Ah, original Madoka knows of the black cat, even gave it a name, “Amy” as well. Looks like the cat is a regular visitor around campus. Madoka and Homura bond over the black cat d’awwww.
• ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)ｱﾊﾊ八八ﾉヽﾉヽﾉヽﾉ ＼ / ＼/ ＼, Sayaka stole Hitomi’s math notes to help out Homura and Madoka.
• P.E. Time; poor Homura pushed herself too far and collapsed :( Madoka brings her to the nurse station.
• Homura launches in to a tirade about herself being useless, Madoka encourages her and uses a little magic to give her a “boost”.
• Homura feels better, goes back to try the high jumps, clears the bar the first time, but magic goes berserk when she tries it again.
• Madoka calls for Mami’s help to stop Homura’s legs who have gone berserk. With her help, Homura is saved, but she collapses again.
• Unconscious, the Arc of Triumph Witch invades her psyche, playing on the negative memories.
• Homura wakes up to a conversation of Mami lecturing Madoka about misuse of magic. Not understanding the conversation, Homura heads back.
• Witch attacks, events are the same as episode 10.
• Mami, Madoka and Homura retire to Mami’s house. Conversation about Puella Magi. Expanded from episode 10 a little:
  • Walpurgisnacht is described as a festival of witches.
  • Madoka also apologises for the events earlier in the afternoon with Homura’s legs going berserk.
  • Madoka invites Homura to become a Puella Magi as well, Mami warns her about the risks as usual.
• Madoka and Homura walk home together. Madoka shares about her sense of purpose after becoming a Puella Magi with Homura, but tells her to consider it properly as well. Homura promises to think about it thoroughly first.
• Madoka and and Homura meet Amy.
• Madoka’s wish in the original timeline was to save Amy who was ran over by a car.
• Madoka wonders if Mami will scold her for squandering her wish to save a cat. Homura says she’s a very kind person in return.
• Cute moments with cat and Homura… maa~
• Next(?) day; very big storm happens. Homura remembers about Madoka warning her to not go out on a very stormy day. Madoka also didn’t attend school earlier. Homura googles up Walpurgisnacht.
• Worried, Homura goes in search of Madoka. Meets up with Amy who ‘guides’ her.
• Homura monologues in an ominous manner. Drama CD ends.

Oh man, I was wondering what would the Madoka Drama CD in the first Blu-ray volume be like, and I’m glad it’s not some fanservice thing. Instead we get an expansion of what happened in the original timeline from Homura’s perspective and we finally get to know what the heck that black cat in the OP was for! Yeaaaaaaaah!

This just makes me wish that my secret dream of a Madoka Magica movie project expanding on episode 10 will come true. Seriously, I want to know more about Homura’s past and her timeline traversals.
