Disappearing, adagio.

Kanon 2006

Sigh……

If there is one word to perfectly describe Shiori’s arc, it would be the Japanese word, kuyashii, meaning regrettable or mortifying, of which both meanings are fully shown out over the course of this arc, from the mortification of Yuiichi being helpless to truly prevent the impending fate of Shiori, to the regret which Kaori faced when she gave up acknowledgment of her sister.

This was truly a heart-wrenching arc and possibly the most emotionally packed one as well. From the initial confession of Kaori that Shiori is truly her sister to Shiori’s trademark line of “…they’re called miracles because they don’t exist.” down to Shiori’s confession and subsequent line of “Was I able to smile?”, played all the way along with the perfect accompaniment of “pure snows“, this was probably the arc that I felt the most intense emotions for yet.

The sudden disappearance of Shiori right after this episode also fully mirrors how her life has been, a happy and innocent one, yet sadly cut short by the cruelty and infairness of life. It also shows her strength in facing her own fate as well, as with this gesture, she clearly shows the intention to leave with happy memories, instead of creating even more sad ones for her beloved ones, which, actually makes one feel even more mortifying in a way.

Sigh…

A song without words between an elder sister and a younger sister

Kanon

Onee-chan….

How can I convey the sadness between Shiori and Kaori….. it’s just…. subtle yet a hard-hitting in many ways in the same time…

Somehow though, what can’t be conveyed through words, the producers used music instead. Kanon’s soundtrack has always played the role of a behind-the-scenes supporter throughout the current TV series’ run, subtly enhancing it yet never taking the center stage. This episode however, as if knowing that words fail, the soundtrack takes charge instead, with the usage of several pieces, conveying effectively the feeling of the atmosphere instead, most notably the track where Kaori returns home and ignores Shiori, powerful and passionate yet sad at the same time.

Still, it wasn’t a truly gloomy episode, though I almost shed a tear at Shiori’s line of “.. but it’s called a miracle because they don’t happen.”… t’was an extremely hard hitting line there. Sigh…

P.S. To a certain Shiori-hater I know… how can you hate someone as cute as this? Either it’s jealousy or you don’t have a human heart at all!

So Shiori hates her curry… aahhhh~~

Midnight Oratorio

Kanon

A powerful episode. Very powerful episode, with lots of character development. I am somewhat overwhelmed on what to blog about this episode, whether it be from the now prevailing Shiori arc to the development of the main girls left in the current story. I will just leave everyone to watch it by themselves.

I will mention one thing however, which is the meeting between Yuuichi and Kaori at night in school. The cinematography was absolutely fabulous, with sense of depth portrayed realistically using the falling snow, accompanying the major revelation concerning Shiori. That made me stop, in awe, for a moment, just to digest it. Looks like the tissues will see use soon.

Extra shot of Ayu and Akiko-san… it was so touching I couldn’t help myself..

A Sonatina of hide and seek

Kanon

Sharing a tender moment…

Sheer words fail me to describe how I felt this episode was, so let’s just say Kyo Ani kept on raising the bar higher and higher with every Kanon arc they’re doing now. This episode resolves Mai’s arc in a very awesome manner, and let’s just say I was left speechless for at least 5 minutes after the episode ended.

So back to the usual Kyon’ichi we go, as he quickly recovers from the events of the last 3 episodes and starts off the new semester with a vengeance to his slickness. Can’t count how many times I laughed my ass off to his antics, he’s. just. too. damn. awesome.

Highlights:

* Shiori eating ice-cream.
* Kyon’ichi, Mai and Sayuri playing bentou shuffle
* “Chikasugite, mienai.” x 3
* Ayunayu (pictured above).
* Mai asking for ootoro.
