Disappearing, adagio.

Sigh……
If there is one word to perfectly describe Shiori’s arc, it would be the Japanese word, kuyashii, meaning regrettable or mortifying, of which both meanings are fully shown out over the course of this arc, from the mortification of Yuiichi being helpless to truly prevent the impending fate of Shiori, to the regret which Kaori faced when she gave up acknowledgment of her sister.
This was truly a heart-wrenching arc and possibly the most emotionally packed one as well. From the initial confession of Kaori that Shiori is truly her sister to Shiori’s trademark line of “…they’re called miracles because they don’t exist.” down to Shiori’s confession and subsequent line of “Was I able to smile?”, played all the way along with the perfect accompaniment of “pure snows“, this was probably the arc that I felt the most intense emotions for yet.
The sudden disappearance of Shiori right after this episode also fully mirrors how her life has been, a happy and innocent one, yet sadly cut short by the cruelty and infairness of life. It also shows her strength in facing her own fate as well, as with this gesture, she clearly shows the intention to leave with happy memories, instead of creating even more sad ones for her beloved ones, which, actually makes one feel even more mortifying in a way.
Sigh…
