Gundam 00 ED2: Friends by Stephanie

Gundam 00

While the show is going down the usual Sunrise trainwreck trail, you gotta admit, the new OP and ED are both awesome.

Been looping Stephanie’s Friends ever since it was out a day or two back. The powerful vocals and meaningful lyrics makes this song rather addictive. Too bad the ED sequence in the show itself is a bit…

Gundam 00 09

Gundam 00

As expected from Lockon.

Whew, after the mess that was episode eight, episode nine redeems my trust in this series a bit.

Celestial Being finally gets in to a pinch of their own, and frankly, seeing the Gundams kick ass out of everyone was beginning to get boring, so this makes for a nice change and most of all, this episode portrays them as more “human” as well too. Wonder how will Sumeragi will fare against Sergei, who seems to be master of sneaky but effective tactics.

Also, it’s revealed that the Gundam Meisters current names are just codenames, quite logical considering the illogical names that some of them have. I appreciated the character development between Lockon, or Neil, his real name is, and Felt. I do hope they’ll be able to handle it better than…uh, Setsuna and Marina’s relationship, which is definitely screwed up.

One part I still don’t get though, is how Saji and Louise fit in to all this. I get they’re trying to show a contrast between the “normal people” and the ones who are fighting… but really, they seem just to be there for the sheer comic relief that Louise provides with her abuse of Saji :P.

Gundam 00 08

Wow. This episode doesn’t make any fucking sense.

Just because you see someone who looks like a fellow countryman, doesn’t mean you need to go save said person when he’s clearly shooting people on the road.

Just because you are pissed off with someone who hasn’t tasted the suffering of being a child soldier and having their country destroyed, doesn’t mean you need to reveal your real name and position as a Gundam Meister, especially when said information is supposed to top-secret.

Just because you’re flying back from a mission, doesn’t mean you need to show off your uber-powerful mobile suit to the passengers of an airplane.

Seriously, this episode makes no fucking sense. When one thinks that the fanservice was the most sensible part of the episode… you know the show is seriously heading in to troubled waters.

Gundam 00 05

Holy shit. Is it me or did Gundam 00 almost turn in to a Super Robot show?

This episode, Kyrios managed to output enough propulsion to slow down the descent of the Gravity Block thing, which I would estimate is around at least 300x the size of it and not to mention an exponentially larger mass than it. That’s like, already Super Robot-level feat. Reminded me of Top wo Nerae! 2 02 where Dix-Neuf went to rescue a crippled battleship from planetfall. That was still within bounds of reason. This is beyond belief.

If that wasn’t badass enough, Dynames managed to cleanly shoot off the other two sections of the Gravity Block parts. From the ground. From 10,000km’s away. Like. Wow. Like. Unbelievable. Like. What the fuck?! BTW, his scene soooo reminded me of Evangelion.

Looks like Gundam 00 is going to be more interestingly memorable that I expected it to be.

P.S. Pink mobile suits look damn ghey. And next time, equip any mobile suit just going for a field test, with HARMLESS PAINTBALLS. Okay, yes they did equip the Tieran Taozi with paint bullets, but it seems they do explode with quite some force to DISLODGE the Gravity Block. Maybe someone skimped materials during the construction.

2 cents: The DarkMirage vs Nyoro~n case.

Ah yes, fansubber dorama. DarkMirage isn’t a newcomer to this, and I will say I agree with his post and most of its contents. In fact, I did download the .ass of Nyoro~n’s Gundam 00 01, and that itself already contained many hilarious mistakes, that even I, who don’t possess a shiny JLPT 1, noticed.

I’ve had the good fortune to have not touched any Gundam 00 speed subs ever since then, but meh, I guess this issue provided some pretty good insights on to the perspectives of the fansubbing scene. While I will admit that every one who has the motivation to produce a sub deserves respect, but it doesn’t mean that the subber is free from responsibility of admitting his mistakes, so I’m glad to see that the subber at Nyoro~n has acknowledged his mistakes although he initially defended himself. At the least this mistake didn’t almost trigger another war.

Oh, and Graham is definitely giving off a real homosexual vibe, even w/o the missubbing by Nyoro~n.

Comments are closed, since I’m just lazy to deal with more dorama.

Fall’07 Day Five

Gundam 00

Interesting. At the least, it starts off more better than Gundam SEED was, also this time, the moral standpoint of the main characters are much more unique, which is by using violence to stop violence, which, obviously is ironic and also impossible. The seiyuu work by the 4 main males are pretty solid, and I won’t deny it’s fun to hear Jun Fukuyama Mamoru Miyano again. Quite a number of females in this new Gundam as well, so at the least there’s eye-candy. Gotta love the china dress girl.

Well, that was certainly a unique episode. I gotta say though, the production quality was really good, but I’ll be honest and admit I had almost no idea what was happening in the show. Still, worth a watch. Story feels interesting enough, although the way it’s being presented is really artsy and all. For some reason, I felt some hints of Makoto Shinkai in it, I think it was because of the railways.

In terms of voice work, pretty good, but nothing much exceptional.

Kimikiss pure rouge

kimikiss pure rouge

Not bad at all. Kimikiss looks pretty interesting, and the production quality is pretty high. Man, this season’s romance shows are all starting up pretty nicely so far. I’ll also give credit to Kimikiss for having the prettiest stable of girls for this season yet.

The voice work is stellar too, with Rie Tanaka, Koshimizu Ami and Kawasumi Ayako as some of the more instantly recognized voices. I think this is the first time I’ve heard Kawasumi in a teacher character as well. Yum. Rie Tanaka’s character is also my favorite now. I’m such a sucker for those types.

Shugo Chara

Uh, why am I watching this?

Heh, well, this was pretty entertaining actually. I kinda like the main girl, mostly for how she manages to act “cool & spicy” even if she’s actually not so in her own thoughts. The voice work for her was pretty well done as well, with seiyuu Itou Kanae effortlessly changing from cool to awkward.

All in all… I would say I enjoyed it, even with all the cheesy mahou shoujo elements. Ahh.. I guess this is a sign of how much in to otakudom I’ve sunk in to….
