Kabukimonogatari (I)

Monogatari Series Season 2

Another new character appears with the starting of Kabukimonogatari and it’s the ominous Oshino Ougi. I’ve heard some things about her, but seriously those eyes and character make me feel like running away when meeting her. Scarily enough, she’s voiced by Mizuhashi Kaori as well… man, incongruity of that voice and her character just adds another layer of ominousness to her.

Meanwhile, this sure was a very talky episode with Ougi’s introduction, Ononoki’s date of sorts with Araragi and finally the time leap happening. Just goes to show not even Shinobu can be perfect! The Nobita and Doraemon jokes were really apt to make on those two.

Oshino Ougi won’t make it past the third episode of this arc.
Discussing this much philosophy over traffic lights?
She’s got a good head on her shoulders.
    Wait, what?

Ougi disturbs me at some kind of instinctual, reptile-brain level.

@Karry: 1. I think this series explains enough of the background as it goes along that you can just watch it without having to go back and watch the others. 2. The Shaft *gatari shows are not “crap.” The first one, in particular, was a masterpiece, in my opinion. I was just thinking as I watched this episode that this series operates at a higher level than almost anything else, for me: it’s artistic in so many ways.

I loved this episode. Rich and full. I enjoyed Mizuhashi Kaori’s sharp, clear voice as the new Oshino weirdling. And Hayami Saori’s voice is always both relaxing and entrancing. I continue to not be entranced by Sakamoto Maaya as Shinobu, however. Just doesn’t work for me. Too stiff in some way. Neither the loli nor the ancient vampire come through.

Yeah, Monogatari really does make you feel that way, even at its lowest parts. I will admit I’m not impressed by the show all the time, but it’s generally more hit than miss so far.

Heh, it does feel stiff at times, but I would say she gives Shinobu a very unique tone not too unlike most of her other characters.

Shinobu always steals the show for me.

To tell the truth, I really don’t like the fact that Senjougahara has less and less appearing in the show after Bakemonogatari. The dialogues are still interesting but I prefer the interaction from Senjougahara the most.
