Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen 05

Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen

Suigintou finally makes her real appearance in Zuruckspulen…. and we get treated to a flashback of her and Megu meeting each other. I suppose that’s fine, since we never really got much of Megu in the earlier productions. But damn, Megu is really…. broken.

I think I much prefer this version of Suigintou too. The manga art style really emphasizes her doll aspects much more.

At this juncture though, I have to admit…. the plodding pacing of the anime is slowly getting to me. I hope they move things a notch up next week.

That feeling when you think those two dolls should go and get a room only to realize that they’ve already spent several hours in a room alone.

On a more serious note, their pacing really falters only when it comes to the material from the original manga. On one hand, inserting the Megu flashback is a good idea, on the other hand, I’m really glad this series is not my first exposure to the characters. Not that they get them all wrong, but I would think much worse of Megu if I were to go by this episode alone. I doubt we’ll see much of her this season, and even less of her stepping on people, but still…

When it comes to pacing the unwinded world parts, I think I understand what they’re trying to do. This world is not supposed to be a happy place for reasons that should be explained later on, so they might be trying to create a particular atmosphere. Once again, they aren’t exactly wrong here, the problem is that it makes the pacing feel slower than it actually is. In the winded world/original series the things were lively even when they were serious, here it starts to feel that the morose climate encroaches even on the gag scenes.

Oh, and what was that nest-doll cameo? Have they given up on sales and switched to openly promoting mkv’s just to make people watch the show?
