Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 01

Fate/kaleid liner Prism Ilya

Totally doesn’t remind me of a certain other magical girl scout.

I admit, I’m not too impressed with Prism Ilya’s anime. It looks cheap and pretty much feels like another cash in on the Fate franchise, which I am starting to get a little sick of. I did read the manga a bit but it mostly forgettable and haven’t bothered since then. Not sure if the anime will change that opinion. But at the least, it seems we’ll be having some good endcard art out of this.

Hell yeah Ishida Akira!

I don’t know about others, but I thoroughly enjoyed the manga.
If the anime had a higher budget or even UFOtable, you would clearly see how good it has potential to be.

Maybe I’m just being biased towards it due to the high amount of loli’s cosplaying heroes and yuri action, or even the random bits with momma Irisviel, after F/Z I’ve been wanting to see more of her quirkiness.
Bonus is when Kotomine Kirei comes in to chop Illya up for not paying for the mapo tofu he force-fed her with, or the chapter on fujoshi.

Ishida Akira!? Man, I totally wish there was a Maou Yuusha anime! That would be great.

The thing is, the first “season” of Prisma Illya is probably the most conventional of the three parts of Prisma Illya so far. It plays a whole lot of stuff straight, really.

The REAL pay-off is 2wei, and 3rei, where both the plot, storytelling, and art improves by leaps and bounds.

Again, agree with Myssa, a season 2 would really be good, but hopefully with different character designs.

Prisma Illya doesn’t really start to shine as an epic franchise of its own until the second season, which is a pity… The first really was just an excuse for Type Moon to live out their dream of making a magical girl show. Takeuchi Takashi has done quite a bit of Nanoha fan art, after all…

Seriously, a Maou Yuusha anime would be great!

Agree with what everyone says here. Prisma Illya really does evolve into a high quality product of its own.

Let’s put it this way, if you don’t like the manga, you are not going to like the anime which is in effect a 1:1 conversion. So far chapters 1 to 3 = episodes 1 to 3. Word has it that it’s a 10 episode SEASON. (WTF is with these Japanese studios anyway… the average length of anime is going the direction of their economy…) It would be interesting how they mash 3 extra chapters to fit.

So far, after watching episodes 1 to 3 a combined 30+ times, the only thing that irks me is:
    1) Rin and Luvia did not just “get sent to Japan to retrieve the cards”. Let’s say it’s more of a punishment from Kischur Zeltrech Schwinorg for causing millions of pounds in property damage and research and not to mention the bystanders’ injuries.

    2) Ruby’s artwork is inconsistent. Much as I can ignore the minor details, staring at a Kaleidostick that is inconsistently drawn gets… annoying. Take your Illya 1 and 2 main screencaps. Note the Rin version has thinner rings.

PS #1 character of Prisma Illya is…
    *shota of Babylon*

    @Giovanni

Still prefer the bit towards the end of Zwei where the poor shota gets beaten up by a PERVING and HENTAI loli. Such double standards. Guys get beaten up when they perv AND when they are perv’ed on. There is no justice.

Manga is genuinely enjoyable and canon part of nasuverse. Its not just “fate spin off” its a genuine high quality work set in fate universe.

If they follow it accordingly, then this anime will be one of the most awesome ever, especially when we eventually get to Zwei and Drei seasons material

A good way to think about Prisma Illya is this:

The first season is like the Fate route of F/SN. It’s nice and introduces the setup well, but it’s not the payoff. The main heroine is cute, and that typically draws some people in.

The second season (2wei) is a lot more kickass, and even includes an Archer Expy, so very UBW-style. It’s much better than the first season.

The third season (of the manga, 3rei) coming out now, is basically Heaven’s Feel. It’s basically become a serious story all on its own. It’s really good, the payoff starts from 2wei and continues here.

Effectively, Prisma Illya is a funny series at first, but eventually realizes that it’s part of the Fate universe, and starts getting really good.
