The World God Only Knows: Goddesses Arc 01

The World God Only Knows

>my fucking face when manglobe blows through Yui’s arc in 30 seconds.

Holy shit this fuckers really decided to skip one of the best fucking arcs of the entire manga series just like that, what the fucking fuck? I’ve been waiting 2 years for this and now you tell me it’s FUCKING SKIPPED?! Manglobe a fucking shit.

On the other hand, they are being very literal with the “Goddesses Arc” subtitle for this season, Kanon-chan already got stabbed right off the bat.

The World God Only Knows

Tomatoes as the lunatic bitch too

Although I did want to see this arc animated too, but not having Yui’s arc is such a fucking dick move I don’t even…. sigh. Sometimes, I wonder why do I even bother having hope.

I can’t believe what I’m reading. One of the most epic arcs ever, explained in 30 secs.

LOL, and here I thought it was just a quick sum-up of relevant parts from the previous season. How can I mix-up the manga and anime like that (maybe bad memory mixed with wild imagination?) :DD Well, putting that aside, the first ep was IMHO rather awesome. A really good start into a new season, IMHO.

According to various sources, the first and second season sales were so bad that they decided to do this arc hoping to gain some money since the two seasons were very disappointing. What do you expect from many studios like this? Money decides on everything these days not fans.

Whoah… and I thought I missed something awesome turns out they just intended to skip it… okay… really a dick move cause those conquests seemed rather fun.

I understand them wanting to skip right to the goddess arc, because it’s where the story picks up, plus it’s the best arc in Kaminomi so far. However, I don’t understand skipping Tsukiyo, Yui and Hinoki. Tsukiyo and Yui both had really great arcs! They are integral to the goddess arc, you can’t skip over them! And Hinoki’s arc is one of the most intense moments in the entire manga, and also has story relevance along with Yui’s arc. They went into this season with only half the buildup needed for it to work! Sigh, the planning in general for the Kaminomi anime has been bad. Season 1 should have ended with Haqua, and season 2 should have ended with Tenri. Then they can do Yui, Hinoki, and finally the goddess arc. Oh Manglobe…

I’m sure that if this arc really gets some cash into the producers pockets they’ll consider making OVAs or something similar in which the skipped conquests will be shown.

    Also hoping for OVAs.

If they actually do a 26 episode season instead of 13 then they might be able to fit in the Yui stuff as flashback arcs… though if that gets summarized too much then I think I’d prefer to wait for an OVA.

It’s kinda tragic though. If they didn’t drag out the first two seasons so much then they would have been able to fit in more girls, Tsukiyo at least. Instead they are going to blow through twice the content covered by both seasons.

  9. sqa Said,

There’s a good chance this is a split-cours season again. All we actually know is that it’s 12 episodes this season.

While I haven’t read the Manga, I can fully understand why they would skip ahead. This is the “big” arc that Manga fans kept saying they wanted to see animated, so it makes sense they’d move ahead to it. Missing other girls isn’t the most enjoyable, but there is always time to go back later via OVA.

Should also keep in mind: the Tenri-hen OVAs sold something like 45k copies, at roughly 35 bucks each. This probably has a lot to do with the Green Light for taking the OVAs into a series. They very easily could do 2-part OVAs for different captures, along with Manga volume releases. It would, in fact, be pretty easy money.

Oh, and the first 2 seasons weren’t disasters for sales. 3k and 2.1k. Not good, but not a blood bath. The main issue is that the Manga didn’t see a massive spike, so they broke even, but it wasn’t a huge money maker.

  11. Dakkar Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 4:07 am

I hadn’t read the manga before the anime aired, and the anime itself was nowhere good enough to make me pick it up, but what Kuro describes looks like a pattern. If you have a very popular arc, why air it if you can make it into an OVA or a movie and earn more? One very famous studio did something like that before, no? So, you should be glad they don’t make it a repeat airing sprinkled with new episodes stuffed in-between.

  12. moridin84 Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 4:47 am

It’s 70 chapters long. It would be rushed in a 13 episode anime, let alone a movie or OVA.

  13. Dakkar Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 5:33 am

One girl arc is 70 chapters? Thank goodness I haven’t picked that manga. Well, devoting the entire season just to that might be risky, but it also brings the hilarity of the 30 seconds summary to the next level.

  14. Tropic Thunder Said,

What I want to know is, what was the point in having Fiore replaced by Lune?

It’s seriously depressing that they skipped Tsukiyo, Hinoki and Akari… They were the reason I was so looking forward to season 3!

  15. moridin84 Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 6:15 am

I mean the goddess arc is 70 chapters long. The longest capture arc was about 10 chapters, which was really long to be honest.

    @Tropic Thunder
The real question is, what’s the point in Fiore? :p

They cut Fiore because she’s a useless character and they are going to be rushing this arc due to time constraints.

  16. Quervo Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 6:20 am

If the sales were soooooo bad they won’t get any money from any arc of the story. They should have stopped animating the series and be done with it. It brings me great despair that it ended up something like hayate no gotoku cuties… oh wait that was Manglobe too…

    Somewhere, Monobear is enjoying this…

  17. Tropic Thunder Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 6:48 am

@moridin84: That is soul crushingly depressing… I know the Goddess Arc is when the “story” starts to pick up, but it wasn’t really that fantastic. Kami Nomi is at it’s best, when God’s Conquering.

  18. Dakkar Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 6:50 am

I see, I was thinking about how they might want to make that Yui’s arc into an OVA/movie if they need extra cash, so there was a bit of misunderstanding, it would seem.
Six chapters per episode sounds like it will get rushed, unless manga content is diluted. Definitely a change compared to the snail pacing of the previous seasons. I’d rather bet on them stopping midway, that might stimulate the sales a bit as well.

Well yeah the early TWGOK arcs aren’t really that good IMHO, and most of them turned out to be inconsequential (as in they aren’t Goddesses) but manglobe decided to take the slow approach and stretch it out.

But when the series starts picking up and they skip right past the one of the best arcs of the series to do the “climax”… that’s retarded.

  21. Tropic Thunder Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 7:55 am

“Best” is subjective. I honestly disliked Yui’s arc. Tsukiyo and Hinoki’s arc’s were much better, in my opinion, and Akari’s arc showed that Nagase is a devil.

  22. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 8:06 am

Yui’s arc was hillarious for flipping over the entire concept of Keima having to make girls fall for him.

For me, Minami’s arc is a real hidden gem. It’s sad we won’t get to see it, but her arc is much more… poignant. I doubt manglobe could do any justice to that.

I feel like they originally wanted to animate the individual captures since they teased us way back at the end of season2 but then some idiot said ‘screw all of that, just skip to the Goddess Arc.’

  25. edru Said,

    July 10, 2013 @ 3:47 pm

not to mention you loss the buildup with guess who could be a goddess(not to mention the OP already spoils it!). suddenly we have goddesses around and we’re expected to know the characters deeply enough?

they could have at least done tenri’s arc so that the goddess concept would have integrated and build up to this one. bad writing.

  26. Tropic Thunder Said,

  28. Now that you mention it... Said,

    July 11, 2013 @ 7:45 pm

Manglobe is also the same studio that choose to produce a crappy spinoff (The Unlimited Hyobu Kyosuke) instead of animating the best part of its main series, Zettai Karen Children (another Shonen Sunday series along with Hayate and Kaminomi).

    That can’t be coincidence.

  29. Andmeuths Said,

The skipping of the Hinoki, Yui and Tsukiyo’s arcs seems to be the arcs that gets the most people up in arms. Followed by the Akari arc. They skipped the best pre goddess arc KamiNomi material IMO, which is a shame. Many of those arcs were very different from the first two seasons of TGWOK (Hinoki, Reiko and Akari especially stands out, and the first two were very, very unique stories)

But then again, the pacing for the first season was utterly horrific (three episodes per girl? Really?). I agree that the first season should have ended with Haqua, and the second with Tenri. Still, I doubt that would have improved sales.

Looking from a manga perspective, Sumire and Nanaka’s arcs were the last “normal” TGWOK arcs of the vein of the first two seasons. The Yui, Hinoki and Akari arcs formed an excellent build up to the goddess arc.

If there are OVA’s, I think that Tsukkiyo’s arc (which is actually even shorter than Reiko’s arc) would end up being a single part OVA. While Hinoki and Yui would easily form multi-part OVAs.

  30. SuSu Said,

They coulda at least made OVAs for the arcs they decided to skip :|

On the side note, I didnt enjoy it a lot when she got stabbed in the manga.
She just laid there for a bunch of chapters; I thought it was kinda boring at some point.
