Those reactions!

Rather than Cute Girls Doing Cute Things (CGDCT), Thursdays seems to be more of Cute Girls Doing Absurd Things (CGDAT). While Love Lab had some seriously good production quality for CGDAT show, Kitakubu hits the humour better in my opinion.

First off, the MC has the biggest freaking ahoge I’ve seen on an anime character…. but she’s the main tsukkomi of the show and generally the one with the most sense. And of course the rest of the cast have nary a hint of having any out-of-place hairs on the head. I’m preeeetty sure they are trying to subvert something here.

The rest of the cast range from ordinary airheads to ojousamas and martial artist experts, all of which are introduced very well in the first episode. Everyone manages to stand out in their own way. Normally, I have trouble telling who’s who for CGDCT/CGDAT shows in the first 2-3 ones, but Kitakubu doesn’t have that problem at all.

Lastly, the show knows it’s a low budget production (but not Gonzo-level low lel) and they actually make fun of it. The show even gives a very appropriate setup leading to the jokes. I love it when a show does that, don’t ask me why.

There is literally an entire scene in name form

One downside of Kitakubu is that the cast is mainly rookies, with Ibuki Kido as the lead and most recognisable name. I actually have to give some praise for her performance as the MC in this, the voice she uses here is almost unrecognisable from her debut role. I’m quite impressed, honestly. And she has a very very good tsukkomi talent it seems. Her replies are real sharp, and that’s the most important thing for a tsukkomi character to me.

Looking forward for the next episode of this already. While CGDAT shows are easy to make, they are hard to be great but Kitakubu has shown quite a lot of promise in its first episode.

Nyaruko has the best ahoge of all time.

Somehow you don’t seem to notice it that much in Nyaruko. In this show however, it’s kinda freaking obvious.

Nyaruko’s antenna was constantly shapeshifting, sometimes even when she wasn’t saying anything. You can say it was contributing to conversations as much as the words spoken. Not to mention its sensor abilities.

Yeah, that’s why it didn’t feel like it was an “ahoge” to me. It was more like another appendage of Nyaruko.

Meanwhile, this one… it’s literally one of the differentiating features for the MC.

I think that aside from the comical aspect, Nyaruko’s antenna served exactly to remind that she has a bit more control over her appearance than what’s good for your SAN. To give anything like that to a human character would be pushing it indeed.

    Appendage huh…
