THOSE USELESS MEATS.
GODDAMNED…. USELESS MEAT…. ALL OVER… HER… BODY….. FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU———-
Hopefully enough the fanservice will not be too excessive as the main draw of Maoyuu isn’t that aspect, but it will probably be unavoidable. I still think the character designs look goddamn ugly as compared to the Akira Ishida’s authoritative (for me) version of it, even if the rest of the series works well. The episode was pretty entertaining overall, especially Amisuke’s rendition of Demon Queen. FukuJun pretty much takes the tsukkomi role here though, in a direct contrast to the Spice and Wolf dynamics we’ve all gotten used to and love.
As par on the course for the Maoyuu media mix franchise, the anime keeps true to the rough outline of the meeting between Demon Queen and Hero, but throws in its own subtle details. For example, the tea drinking and the memory lantern are things probably only for the anime. And of course, the whole Hero dakimakura part too. That gave me a good laugh. Feel free to correct me if they do exist in the other media though, I haven’t read all of them myself.
Next week sees the addition of Head Maid, who’s conspicuously absent when the episode already shows a whole bunch of important characters. Of course, Big Sis Maid and Little Sis Maid are joining in as well.
P.S. Since some are wondering how bad, here’s a comparison image of the character designs across the Maoyuu media mix franchise
