I’m pretty sure they didn’t want to use otaku slang, despite the fact Nisioishin pretty much blends otaku culture into his works. Although that’s a good question, how many people watching such a show wouldn’t know what a yandere is?

Yandere=Sadist? Then again, there is probably no equivalent term for Yandere. I would find it hard to believe that anyone watching this would not know what Yandere means or would not know how to google it.
