Suguha….(τωτ)

Goddamnit, Ayanyan. Did you really had to pour out your heart and soul in to this week’s performance?! I mean, I’m firmly in the Asuna camp but god damn me if this didn’t tug on my heartstrings so hard… five times I watched this and five times I still felt it. Dammit, girl…. dammit!!

And so, the bombshell that’s been waiting to explode for the past few episodes has finally been set off and it wasn’t pretty to watch. It’s really a world of difference reading it from non-professional LN translations compared to hearing Ayana Taketatsu deliver those lines with such intensity… sigh, this makes me wish that Reki would really stop doing this already for SAO, but he really loves to do this doesn’t he?

Of course, the episode was more than just the “bombshell”. Kirito’s solo charge in to the dome was really done nicely, especially when spliced with all those moments of Asuna in Aincrad. Following that up with Lyfa’s desperate charge to retrieve his “Revive Light” and with Kajiura going all out on the music this week… this was without a doubt one of the best episodes of the show so far.

Next week should be another heartstring-tugging episode as well… that episode title (Kizuna), dammit.

    Goddamn Ayanyan really did put her heart and soul into that performance. This was easily one of the best scenes of her career.

    Ugh. All these feels for a show I kinda hate, over a character I like being heartbroken by a character I definitely hate.

    Ugh. WHY YOU DO THIS ANIME.

    I swear that when I was watching that part of the fifth picture I thought Suguha would punch Kirito in the face.

    Expected of Nagai Tatsuyuki story boarding. Just feel that they should have gave that final scene a little more sobbing time and some bgm.

    No way, the lack of BGM was one of the best parts.

    Other than Kirito being a clod, the scene was basically perfect.

    Yeah, putting BGM in there wouldn’t feel right. Ayanyan’s delivery of those lines would totally overwrite anything else.

    I quite enjoyed this episode. Like, even the angsty teen drama bits were better than tolerable.

    Kirito’s hopeless charge against the guardians was my favorite part of the ALO arc in the novels (with the best yet to come). Using those flashbacks of Asuna coupled with Kirito’s creepily-happy/angry expressions was pretty good, since they couldn’t very well include his inner monologue.

    What I’m referring to is actually the part after Suguha finish the lines and closed the door, the part where she started crying and Kirito sat on the ground. Just felt it’s a little ‘lacking’, especially how it cuts into the ending song just like that.
    That part definitely had the potential to be an even more painful scene IMO.

    Friend of mine pointed out that the fight against the gate guardians was pretty similar to the Asuka vs MP EVA fight in End of Evangelion. Watched it and it really does feel like some reference was made. Rage-mode berserking and then being overwhelmed and dying to a bunch of swords (or spears for EoE) being thrown.

    As for the second half of the episode… ;_______; Not much of a Sugu fan but ow my heart.

    Lol shit, I didn’t realize those swords in the end card was references to AW.

    If BGM was added, it’ll be something like this I guess:

    Watching this with my daughter and we were rooting for Sugu to punch Kirito square in the nose.

    So can someone tell me why Kirito should be punched/slapped/killed?

    Well, lack of time and felt premise was cheesy back when this started :P

    Also they’re probably rather aggrieved by his combo breaking of a lovely young maiden’s heart.

    @ Dave: Just out of curiousity, how old are you and your kid? Depending on your answer, this will lead to a “fuck yeah old guys watching anime” or “fuck yeah kids growing up on anime their parents watch”.

    The voice actor, Taketatsu Ayana (Sugu), did a great job of portraying the proper emotions. The scene at the end isn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. Not bad, not bad.

    @Kuro

    Think of all the other times a male protagonist has gotten slapped for doing something the female protagonist(s) think was stupid, deserved or otherwise. ^^;

    You may also point out Black Lotus too… Still, I wish the endcard would add Cyan Pile!

    First I was like: Hero (the movie) with all those arrows coming at him
    Then I was like: Evangelion! with all those swords piercing him.

    I also loled at the his soul being located at his groin and then at his chest; this explains why guys get boners. The thing has a separate soul!
