Sword Art Online

Not exactly the best entrance…

“Flying’s never killed anyone but that sudden contact with the ground… now that gets you.”

Despite flying proving to be a lot harder than it looks for Kirito, his badass isn’t diminished at the least.

I laughed so hard at this line considering how he says in such a carefree manner.

Haha, Kirito, what a showoff!

Also, Yui’s back!

Sword Art Online

Yuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!

Goddamn it, why couldn’t I hold all this tears at this scene?!

Sword Art Online

Also lol, A-1 doing this scene henshin-style. Oh c’mon!

Sword Art Online

Lyfa-chan! Oh man, even though I knew it… her outfit really emphasizes a certain part doesn’t it.

Sword Art Online

Lyfa-chan kakkoi!! (And I’m not going to use “Leafa” goddamnit)

Still, my favourite scene from this episode comes from the beginning…

Sword Art Online

Dat brofist!

Stepping in to the second week of ALO, this is turning quite good in my opinion. A-1 pretty much followed the novels 100% here, with some minor additions I suppose, but overall it’s doing justice to the original material.

Kajiura’s accompaniment has stepped up quite well too. A bunch of new BGM tracks were used in this week’s episode and they really fit well with the “land of the fairies” theme of this arc. There’s even a remix of the Aincrad theme too using wind instruments during Lyfa’s first appearance in the episode that I quite liked. I’m glad it’s got its own “sound” now, instead of rehashing F/Z tracks haha.

Sword Art Online

Lyfa-chan end card this week!

    Auuu~~

    16 is kinda weak compared to a strong 15. T.T There’s a few places where A-1 fumbles a bit. Hm….

Finally get to see Agil’s place. Nice touch on Agil himself. He’s still tall but noticeably thin. Still recovering. Not sure what to make of Dicey Cafe. It feels more like a bar than a cafe. I wasn’t sure how to picture it but I was thinking of an American Diner with maybe some japanese tech thrown in like tablet pc menus or something. (It is 2022!) And, wow, lots of alcohol. But Agil does say that it’s a place that picks up at night. The other thing I seem to remember is that there’s a private bar area overlooking the main cafe where the SAO survivors use as a refuge to discuss online stuff offline. Well, I could get used to it I suppose but Dicey Cafe is a pretty important place in this series so they gotta do it right. It’s everybody’s sanctuary and usually the starting and ending points of most of their adventures from here on out.

Suguha’s choke scene was a bit weird. I was expecting her to pop the cake into her mouth before panning over to Kirito greeting her suddenly. She looks over, mumbles “Onichan!?”, blushes and swallows inadvertently and then chokes and falls over. Everything after that was nice though. Suguha’s veiled pain. And Kirito not noticing anything.

Yui. Nice to see her again but….damn. I love Kanae Ito’s Wang Yuanji in DW7 as well as her Ohana and Nobuna. But it looks like she still needs work pulling off a little girl/mascot voice. I pictured Pixie Yui being a mascot character with much cuter voice, vastly different from Normal Yui. Maybe something similar to Card Captor Sakura’s Kereberos. Something that should ooze moe. Normal Yui voice on that tiny body just feels weird. And man, that’s one of the saddest magical girl intros I’ve ever seen. =.=; Are they even trying?

Also, really strong potential plothole here. ALO Kirito sounds pretty much like RL Kirito. Even looks roughly the same too, except for the hair. I suppose ALO Kirito will wind up behaving vastly different from Normal Kirito. Otherwise it’ll be really really hard to swallow someone who knows him elsewhere not recognizing him.

Best part of this episode was Lyfa’s debut. She looks awesome.

Also awesome finally getting to see Kirito’s PvP skills in action. So that’s what would have happened to Rosalia if Kirito hadn’t held back way back in episode 4. XD

    Forgot to add another epic fail. =.=;

Kirito’s corrupted item list – they should have added more characters than just question marks. It’s bizarre to have only Yui’s item data having normal characters instead of being all question marks too.

Nice touch having Kirito being hesitant to delete all his items though. A bit weird that he did it all in one single command though. Like, how does he differentiate between his old equipment and his new starting equipment. Not to mention money. >.>; Hmmm…

Wow, that Lyfa endcard is amazing. Egil in real life is bro, Kirito is truly a badass through and through. Though this means we won’t be getting much Suguha over the coming weeks….

Also, can Kirito still use his sword skills from SAO in ALO even though ALo isn’t meant to have them?

  4. meow Said,

Hahahaha. This scene is all about Lyfa. Kirito can’t be stealing the scene just yet.

    Just one thing…:(

I loved the intercept but the way he threw the fairy back looked unnatural. There should have been a better way to do this. -.-; I have a few more complaints about 16 that I threw into 15′s thread. Almost thought you might have dropped SAO, Kurogane. XD Glad you’re still in it. But yeah, this episode ain’t gonna win SAO any new fans.

Well, I’m kinda not looking forward to next week’s episode. Nice to see Kirito and Lyfa in action but I really hate Noemi and I suspect Sugou is gonna be a lot worse. XD

    So far so good.
I really liked how they portrayed Egil’s Dicey Cafe in the beginning.
I wasn’t really expecting them to mention how Egil’s wife was how his shop survived during the two years, so I’m not upset that they didn’t include that, although it would have been nice.

I noticed how A-1 cut the chase for Lyfa down, like when she’s hiding from the enemy and they use a spell to find her location, but that’s understandable since it would have just taken up too much time.
Hahaha .. when Kirito told them, “Who’s Next?”, I laughed so hard, because that made Kirito seem like a huge show off. Plus, I know how screwed the next guy is as well.

I was pretty satisfied this episode; A-1 is doing pretty well so far on the ALO Arc.

No, the sword skills from SAO that we know are gone. Eg. The stuff they had to be activated via system-assist, although they can be recreated manually with some work. 2 years of daily practice ought to do it.

What Kirito has there are his character skills like One-Handed Sword, Block, Unarmed, Fishing (XD), etc. Whatever basic skills from SAO that ALO incorporated without changes, Kirito was able to transfer over, along with equipment and some stats. He’s overpowered though because this game no longer level-based but based on character skills and real-life traits like reflexes and sword techniques. His maxed-out one-handed sword skills and his training in SAO’s sword skills means his one-handed sword damage will be super-powerful, even with crap equipment. Well, he’ll need to be OP. He has less than a week to wake Asuna up before she gets married. No time to grind here.

I guess I agree. It’s not a bad episode although IMHO it has its flaws. Lyfa is hawt. But I actually like this series. I’m kinda dreading what the haters will post later. XD Inb4panstorm?

Kajiuras’ imagination prolly ran wild when she heard the theme “Land of Fairies” xD

Kirito’s throw is not too unusual if his base stats from the levels he had such as strength carried over too. That would put him at a ridiculous advantage.

Also Kuro, this latest chapter of Hayate TC Butler will make u die :D

That’s true. It’s just that the novels and the anime doesn’t really explain this. Did the original SAO system have a stat build system built in? Like allocating attribute points into Strength as you level up? Or did Kirito build up his strength from wielding heavier and heavier weapons over two years? I don’t see him really performing feats of brute strength in the anime until now and that’s quite a doozy. Stopping a charging, heavily armored lance-wielder with one hand and tossing him away like a fly. Huh? Yeah, we know he likes wielding heavy weapons but was he that strong? Maybe the stats he brought over from SAO exceeded the fixed limits of ALO. Hm…..

I think some of the complaints are minor, regarding the animation and stuff.

But yeah, local storage of your MMO save data is not going to go down well with the audience given how MMORPG’s work nowadays.

Bro Egil reminds me how much I just want to see a spin-off where it’s just Kirito and gang doing fun and awesome MMO stuff in ALO 2.0. Caliber SS all the time.

    >>meow

Given that the original SAO had character levels and mentions of different stat builds, you can deduce that you build stats normally as you level up in a normal level-based RPG way; now contrasted by ALO’s skill trees training and player motor ability based system. Iirc, there’s no mention of actual stats in ALO aside from HP and some hidden racial stat that affects the use of weapon classes. In fact, attack power is purely weapon power + swing speed/momentum.

The tossing scene was actually quite different in the novels. It was explicitly said that he used his maxed Guard skill to do the lance catch and then used the momentum to throw the lancer into another one that was coming behind him. So it was a display of skill (the Guard skill) and technique (Kirito’s own reaction/motor skills and technique) unlike what came out in the anime, where it looked like blatant strength. I guess they either got lazy or needed to cut out complexity of the battle scene to make it fit. Or both.

Actually, if I’m not mistaken, this too is explained in the next or so episode.

What was also fun was Kazuto beginning to fanboy over the ability to fly before Egil coughs him back to serious…
It’s little things like that, and the the he was hesitating to throw all of his old equipment away that makes you know that he still is an avid gamer at heart.

Kirito’s reaction and movement speed was so high, he actually flash-stepped during his attack.
Not only that, his enemy Salamander didn’t even die immediately, instead having a few seconds to be surprised before bursting into flames.
In the novels, Lyfa even mentioned that Kirito moved so fast that he created a sonic boom with his body.

Kirito has also gone through two faceplants from the sky as of now. We’ll be looking forward for the one he’ll get from going 2FAST2FURIOUS without bothering to learn air brakes…

    The hard way.

I wonder if Lyfa is actually is- Wait, I think I’ll have to find out by myself!

Maybe later, the ALO arc would become Super Kirigaya Siblings (or Bros.) for that matter!

Kirito’s voice actor turns those slapstick injury moments into masterpieces. I still go back to episode 8 to watch Asuna slap him across the plaza over and over again.
