Hyouka 19

Hyouka

This episode would have been sooo much more memorable if she DID kiss Houtarou.

So basically Oreki shows off his deduction skills again by guessing the backstory behind a random school announcement, which he gets rather right but it’s still as impressive as catching a fly with your toes. People do get lucky some times, especially if they have some contextual knowledge.

I mean, Oreki’s deduction was mildly impressive, but it wasn’t like really moving or monumental or BANG! whatever. Weird how some people were all over the episode, especially the “they (almost) kissed ahmaigawdddd!” parts. Still, for a budget-saver episode, this was okay I guess. Much decent than last week’s episode at any rate I guess.

Almost wish the series ended at the school festival arc. Actually, they should have. Then the show would have truly ended on a high note for me.

For a second or 2 I was thinking Chitanda was the “X” culprit herself… after her reaction to the 10k Yen banknote mentioned…

Chitanda was channeling Mayaka for some of her facial expressions this week. That alone was fairly amusing. Still for an episode where nothing really happened I think it was pretty good.

THIS IS WHAT OREKI HAS BEEN SAYING ALL THIS TIME.

    Hahahahaha.

Glad there’s someone out there who believes him.

No BANG!? I’m not so sure about that.

A terse announcement over a high school intercom linking to a national level crime scandal? And two students figure it out (Giving Chitanda her due, even if it’s “just” her being there), using only the information given them that day…….. (My parentheticals and ellipses are getting OUT OF CONTROL!!)

Sorry. Although it’s completely staged (What? All entertainment is?) for the receiver, Hyouka is still a good watch, It’s gorgeous, the characters shine, and the stories are better than the below-the-bar harems, zombies, high school dodecahedral romances and random I’m-really-good-at-plot-devices shows that pervade anime and US TV.

Am I just too jaded about what I watch?

Do I just have too much time on my hands? Why doesn’t it leave a stain?

Oh, and what’s with closing comments on Christmas, of all days?

Right now, Oreki has to accept that a relationship even exists, since he feels that everything that happens is due to luck. Given that, I could see the final episode (of this season) to end up at the whatever function Chitanda invited him to with her family and at the end (cue background music), she hesitantly takes his hand and sheepishly smiles up at him, and just as the clip comes to an end, you see his hand hold her’s a little tighter and he looks at her with a slight smile- fade to ED. Just sayin’!!!
