Negima! 355

Negima!

A colored page to mark the ending… and naked Yue has the honor of gracing it lol. Akamatsu are you sure she isn’t the one?

Negima!

Ahhh the girls have all grown up nicely. 7 years makes a difference.

Negima!

Nodoka has indeed grown up well… ;_;

Negima!

*PFFFFFFFFFFFFSHTTTT* NAGI?!!! NAGIIIIIIII?!!! HE’S ALIVE?!!

Negima!

Oh lol, Nagi jellying Negi because it’s all girls on his side bwahahahahaa.

Negima!

Yeah, her fighting style definitely was from Negi. Also lol Natsumi.

Negima!

FFFFFFF– THE TWINS ALREADY HAVE DAUGHTERS?

Negima!

Guess these two are as close as a father and son could be. But wow, Negi brought the entire class to save Nagi? Also goddamnit Akamatsu for making this an offscreen moment of awesome! I wanted to see how they fought dammit!

Negima!

Wait… so they used the Cassiopeia to help out Sayo? But it looks like she and Asakura as still close together. And wow, Yuuna became an agent for Megalo-Mesembria. Guess it runs in the family. Luckily they didn’t mention about her dad….

Negima!

LOL NODOKA’S BOOBS GREW IN LOW GRAVITY BUT YUE’S DIDN’T HAHAAHA. Also I want to see Magical Space Detective Yue www. As for those two down there…

>married in 2017
>took the chance to marry in 2017

HMM I WONDER WHO THEY MARRIED HUH? (also protecting Konoka from Tsukoyomi lololol. dat damned lesbian stalker)

Negima!

What? Space Ninja Kaede can travel through space? Oi oi Akamatsu…

Meanwhile looks like Makie, Akira and Ako got jobs befitting their talents eh.

Negima!

HOLY SHIT. The twins grew up to be damn fine ladies. I can’t believe they’ve given birth one too. Goddamn.

Yotsuba sure looks serious about her cooking.

So Kasuga’s also a shadow protector like Yue huh? Also what do you mean by the boy completing Cocone’s assignment… GODDAMNIT AKAMATSU.

Chisame became Negi’s hikkikomori advisor lolololol.

Negima!

Hakase looks to be doing well for herself.. and Chachamaru getting “wound up” everyday huh…..

Wait… Mana lived to be over 100 years old too? Nice touch by Akamatsu there explaining why Asuna woke up late too.

Man, I wanna see Evangeline and Nagi’s days together…. :(

Negima!

Madoka becoming a government official kinda suits here. While Sakurako being able to make or break the world’s economy with her sheer instinct… oh you Akamatsu!

Chizu-nee looks happy for sure.

Of course, the story of how Natsumi and Kotaro got married was awesome. Also another fucking offscreen moment of awesome, AKAMATSUUUUUUUU!!

Negima!

*sniff* I like this ending for Iincho better. She gets to work (and quarrel) together with Asuna.

And Chao… well, sure hope Chao doesn’t mess up the space-time continuum too much.

Negima!

Finis….

After 9 years and countless moments of fun, enjoyment and a very lovable cast…. Negima finally closes the curtain on its serialization. Since the time i read the first chapter until this one, it’s been the manga that I have most consistently followed and supported. From the less-than-humble beginnings, Negima slowly defied expectations and kept setting the bar higher and higher until even Akamatsu couldn’t feel like he could go over that anymore.

From the Evangeline arc to the Kyoto arc, following the the Mahora Martial Arts and then the awesome Mundus Magicus story… we saw not a shounen manga protagonist, but a boy with a tragic past working hard for the one thing he wanted the most… to see his long lost father and supported by all the people he had helped out and overcame with his own strengths.

Unfortunately, while it has faltered towards the end, it did manage to wrap things as best as it could. Negima might not have gotten the ending we want but it may well be the ending we all deserve.

Besides, there is still the possibility of more to come. Maybe Akamatsu will be evil and write all the offscreen moments of awesome in a light novel later, ahahaha. I certainly do want to know about Natsumi’s little trip if it made her took a few levels in badass. Also Evangeline’s love stories :D.

Remember, true magic results from the courage of the heart!

If anyone deserved better, it was Chisame… That is so lame, damn. At least give her a top blog or something!

I’m glad we got a wrap up of what everyone did, although really only half (at most) of the class worth remembering. Space ninja warp desu!

It’s kind of a shame the way the series wound up after the end of the Magic World arc. This last chapter hints at so many things Akamatsu wanted to do but hasn’t been able to for whatever reason.

Also, I forget, but did they ever explain why Negi was able to grow up despite everything said earlier about Magia Erebea (by Godel and Eva)?

I once read in a Neil Gaiman novella that the most powerful people on Earth are the ones you’ve never heard of because they are pulling all the strings discreetly. I’d like to think that Chisame is one of those people.

Well, as for Negi’s stature, he could probably be using those age-deceiving pills so that the world doesn’t feel weirded out that it’s being led by a 10 year old shota.

Not sure how I feel about it. Happy and sad, bitter sweet I suppose. Some questions answered, not all though, but at least some important ones. Obviously I just want the series to keep on going, unlike some others that need to just hurry up and end. I’m getting those longing feelings I had back in 2010 when Fullmetal Alchemist came to an end, but this time it’s different because I was introduced to Fullmetal by a friend and instantly became a hardcore fan, where as Negima was a work of Akamatsu, whose work I was familiar with and loved (Love Hina, Video Girl A.I., etc), and furthermore stumbled upon Negima by myself, so it has a bigger impact with the series ending. I will say that I think Fullmetal had a more complete, non-rushed ending than Negima, but it was still a LOT better than I was losing sleep over thinking it would be horribly rushed and not complete in any way.

Let’s go over the pros and cons and fascinating factoids.

    - Natsumi and Kotarou FINALLY got together, such just right now…

    - It never specifies the exact technicality but… pretty sure Konoka and Setsuna got married… which makes me cry manly, happy tears

    - The twins found Princes in the form of animals and married and had twins

    - Nagi was under control of the Mage of the Beginning the whole time, and was set free by his son and comprades

    - Negi’s partner was never revealed (THANK YOU AKAMATSU-SAN!!! I didn’t think he would, but I was still paranoid Negi would have chosen someone, while in reality it would have been horrible to have any of the girls chosen since a lot of the girls had many admirable qualities, etc…)

    - A possibility of follow-up stories for a few of the characters like Zazie, Eva, and Negi (maybe who he gets with… then again not knowing is nice too, since I like so many of the girls…)

    - Speaking of Eva, she was released from Mahora academy, YEAH!!! But then she continues to watch over Negi, how sweet…

    - The last 4-5 chapters closing the series were too rushed, can only assume Akamatsu-san has another series he wants to conentrate on

    - Negi’s immortality being effected by Asuna’s actions in some way was never revealed, then again I didn’t expect an explanation for that, I think it was intentionally left in the open

    - Hakase and Godel got married apparently..?!?

Everyone seems so happy with what they’re doing after they graduated, I was slightly in tears while reading the epilogue of the girls and their lives. Over all the series was truly epic and will go down as a master piece, the ending wasn’t perfect and left me wanting more, as a good series should, but all things come to an end at some point, plus as I mentioned it did at least let us know what the girls were doing which was a huge relief.

Looking forward to his next series but… how do you follow after something as epic as Negima, ending aside?

I’m indeed happy with this ending overall, but as you’ve said, I’ll still be hoping like mad for Akamatsu to pull a semi-revival like Hiroyuki Takei did with Shaman King Kanzen Bang.

Adding in such Crowning Moment of Awesome/Heartwarming chapters would include (for me):

    - Evangeline and Nagi’s relationship finally, FINALLY becoming official and showing off their sometimes fighting, sometimes lovey-dovey, always fun and touching time together.
    - Negi and the rest Ala Alba defeating the goddamned Lifemaker and freeing Negi’s hometown (especially his family). THIS. NEEDS. SCREENTIME.
    - Natsumi’s arduous quest to reunite with and beat some sense into Kotaro, culminating in their wedding. <3

If I have one all-encompassing complaint it would be the omission of these events (at the moment? <3), the rushed back-tracking from chapter 253's emotional bomb of a Bad End, and the subsequent fanservice "apology" chapter starring a lesbian!raped Yue (Don't get me wrong; I found some enjoyment in that chapter, but the overall placement in the story at this point, and the aforementioned scene just brought it down for me).

Still, as I said, I'm walking away from Negima! Magister Negi Magi with a smile and a warm feeling. At least for now… <3 There's always positive thoughts for the future. ^5

Most of the loose ends were tied up nicely. Even though it was offscreen, we got an explanation of what happened to Nagi and the Lifemaker. However, there were two characters who are dying for a better explanation, Arika and the Gravemaster.

Where is Arika now? Since Nagi is free, he should know. Negi deserves to meet his mother.

As for the Gravemaster, she disappeared without a trace after stopping Sextum. All we know is that she is related the Negi and Asuna, and nothing else.

  11. Neuroh Said,

The ending just made me want more. As much as I hope Akamatsu would make a sequel or side novels, I doubt we’ll get anything more than a five page short live love hina. Just a couple thoughts I had about the ending:

-To me Eva’s part was vague enough to let others interpret how they choose. I don’t think Eva ended up with Nagi. In my opinion, Eva is just content with being close to Nagi (similar to Ayaka’s ending) and looks over Negi from time to time. Since we never see Arika, I’m assuming Nagi is still with her, and I’d love to think about a meeting between Arika and Eva happening.

-Negi turns down all romance for his work, which means he could’ve confessed to anyone but also refuses any relationship even if the feelings were mutual. As this is vague any of the girls could’ve “won” even if one girl seemed closer to him than the others.

-The twin’s marriage seemed a bit random but it seemed like it gave them another reason to be unique since all the other girls led more interesting lifestyles.

-I have mixed feelings about Hakase’s marriage. Last time we saw her she’s never met Godel.

In my opinion, I think that the endings are vague enough to be open to anyone’s interpretation. I somewhat disliked the ending because it ended up leaving some questions for me like:

-What the hell happened to Anya and Arika? We’ve only seen Arika in flashbacks and illusions while Anya was never mentioned about in this parallel world since the end of the magic world arc. I was disappointed since I really liked Anya and Arika. To be honest I liked Arika’s time with Nagi a lot more than Eva’s since Eva’s infatuation with Nagi only seemed like a schoolgirl’s crush. And Anya just ended up being known for being Negi’s childhood friend and the main antagonist of one of the anime adaptations.

-Actually, what happened to the rest of the cast? Not much was mentioned about Fate or even Takamichi. There were so many notable characters other than 3-A that I felt that they needed some closer.

I guess that’s what happens when you write in such a large cast. You can forget about a couple or not have the time or energy to include them. Honestly, I’m okay with how Akamatsu ended the series but I don’t want to think of any definitive event that might’ve occurred other than what was outright told. Overall I felt that Negima ended before its time and in the best way it could be at this time given number of chapters left when the end was announced. I think the ending could’ve been better if it was told as background info like the last chapters of love hina, but it was still good.

Regardless of the problems I had with the ending, Negima is still my personal favorite manga of all time for everything from its setting to magic concepts to characters to plot. I’d hate to see it go, but if Akamatsu wants to finish it I’ll respect his decision and gladly look forward to his next series.

Negi ended up with Fate. Seriously. His assignment from Misora was to give her the name of a girl he liked, and his answer to her was something that she forgave because it was funny and didn’t exactly fit the assignment.

Also, there is strong precedent for a gay ending with a violently befriended magical rival named Fate.

Negi had an heir who led to Chao, but that was in in a future that was changed by her intervention thus creating a parallel. Then again, did she accidentally have some influence that made Negi go for guys, or perhaps it was Fate alone that he grew to like on a romantic level. Perhaps Negi never got with a woman, so Chao could not exist, or perhaps because of one of Negi’s many time jumps throughout the festival, the version of Negi that got with a woman is still alive therefor Chao was able to continue existing even if Negi and Fate did get together.

Furthermore, what of the pic with Yakuhrio and Kagurazaka with Fate and Negi in the background? Could just be all of them working within their positions at ISSDA, or could be more.

Akatmatsu-san did a real bang up job of leaving many, many things for us to draw our own conclusions on. Honestly it’s a real pain in the ass, but also very clever, I’ll give him that.

However, honestly, I am hoping Negi gets with Anya… she’s the one girl that Negi could act more like himself around, most likely because he knew her the longest, but it might be more than that. Then again, Asuna did have that huge reaction, if it was Anya she might not have made such a big deal out of it. Damn you Akamatsu-san…

If Akamatsu was sick and tired of MSN (or editorial meddling), why oh WHY did he not shop it out to a team of writers/artists, with him at the head? That way the main MSN story could fragment into 3-5 parallel stories featuring our favorite haremettes? More people employed, bigger income (each story in different mags), lots of crossovers, the potential is ENORMOUS i tell you!

And there is no downside, he can always do the blame game and fire anyone for any fuckups. Ask Marvel.

As I’ve said, nothing’s definite about Negi’s wife or whatever. The same actually goes to Yue, Nodoka, Setsuna, Konoka etc. everything is left ambiguous and I think that’s the best Ken can do to not getting flamed by… angry fans.

Certainly, I somehow imagined such an ending(or not: Chisame… really, homie?), but one final arc to save Nagi is completely missing and that certainly is a disappointment. I have not given up hope for a sequel or a spin-off yet and even if that doesn’t happen, I enjoyed this series for over 7 years. The ending might not be really satisfying(although regarding the circumstances, I guess it is), but this doesn’t change the fact that Negima was and is one of my favourite mangas of all the time.

Now, just get a proper anime already…

    - Am I one of the few that didn’t like the idea of Kotaro and Natsumi? Chizuru was the only one he liked during the series. Though I suppose their adventure together changed that.

  43. Baka Said,

    March 12, 2012 @ 2:26 pm

    ^

It’s only logical it would Yue since she was who Akamatsu-san chose to be the lead of the last chapter, now more specifically why Yue was chosen to lead in the last chapter… I think it might have been partially a troll to make us think about Yue as the chosen girl, and then partially because it had to be *someone* to pick up the story 7 years later. Negi had to make a big entrance, it couldn’t have just been “7 years later, oh here’s Negi out with Asuna and Ayaka working within ISSDA, time for a reunion”… that would have been terrible… logically Negi had to show up later on.

On that note, Yue makes such a bad ass, laid back magical detective, it was beautiful O.O

  44. Laza_r_us Said,

I thought so too… but the part about what everyone is doing now shows that both she and Nodoka “..had their first love shattered.” was what put me in the shroud of mystery again…

    I would hope for Yue though… Ugh… Akamatsu-san is such a troll.

Anyway, it’s a good ending without revealing who Negi’s REAL crush is… Otherwise, another interweb, galactic war between otakus ensues. =P

  45. Baka Said,

    March 12, 2012 @ 7:13 pm

Yeah that’s what I was getting at a few chapters ago, I didn’t see Negi’s partner being revealed, partially because Akamatsu-san knows a lot of us would be pissed if any single girl was chosen over the others, are partially because Negi had so many “special moments” with so many of the girls that it could have been any of them (minus Asuna… being Negi’s aunt and all… despite having the most “special moments”… unless Akamatsu-san or Negi or Asuna are into that sort of thing…).

But he did take the bold step to officially/unofficially let Setsuna and Konoka have a yuri ending, BRAVO!!!! Plus the artwork in the previous chapter and all the times before that… do I sense an experiment in doujins in Akamatsu-san’s future… let’s hope so… :D

Plus, there’s always the slim possibility of future one shots or mini-series that show some of the off-screen things discovered this chapter, or explanations of some of the girls’ lives’ stories “for another time” hit on briefly.

I did want a LOT more detail, preferably 3-5 more chapters to wrap everything up properly, but given the limitations he actually pulled it off really well.

    >> And Negi and Chacha dragging her out into the world when they can doesn’t sound full on Hikkikomori and internet recluse to me.

So… you’re claiming that Chachamaru and Negi just let Chisame be? Considering her relationship with the two and their characters, I don’t find that feasible.

Also, Yue and Nodoka not getting the threesome ending made me sad for some reason, but hey, they’re leading interesting lives (mad props for Nodoka for still regularly hooking up with her old adventuring team when off-duty) and I’m fine with that.

Konoka and Setsuna marrying each other is awesome, and is a bright sign for the future in the Negima universe.

I’m so sad for Chisame. Of all the students, she was the only one who went nowhere. I think she deserves a better ending than that considering that she is one of the more prominent characters in the manga.

I love Natsumi’s ending the most. Ever since I’ve read the chapter where she and Kotarou had a pactio, I’ve always wanted them to become a couple and get married eventually. I am so glad that it did happen.

I wish that Ken Akamatsu and his team didn’t rush the last 5 chapters of Negima. They could have extended it to maybe about 10-15 chapters more that covers how Negi and team freed Nagi from the Lifemaker’s control and more elaborate explanation of the fate of the characters.

I’m fine with the ending. We got told what everyone did in the future, even though they left out a few character, but it’s all good.

What’s boggling my mind right now, is what’s going to happen to ‘the’ Asuna that’s been put to sleep in this world dimension? Reminder: right now there’s 2 Asuna. The one brought from other dimension to this one, the awake one, and another is the sleeping one. What’s going to happen to the latter? she woke up, everyone’s gone, then what? pull another inter-dimensional time leap again?

And I’m still with my opinion that there’s gonna be Negima PSP game, but now with less character of choice as Akamatsu officiates some of them into marriage. So more specific route. There’s still gonna be Fate bad ending, I’m afraid.

I was tempted to get the most recent game for the DS, problem is I’m nowhere near fluent in Japanese… but maybe if I just take the first choice offered every time I will somehow beat the game when I start pressing random buttons :3 But yeah a game would be nice to offer marriage for a lot of the girls (all of them would be nice but it’s not realistic). A Fate ending is inevitable if such a game was made, but you have to please the yaoi fans out there, it can’t be helped.

You know what, on a random note, my Negima doujin collection is back from like 2007 or earlier, I am sure I have missed out on a lot of good stuff, it seems I need to do some digging.

Anyways, from the question asked earlier, yes it is now an infinite chain of taking Asuna from one dimension and putting her in another. At least that’s what makes the most sense, but there are always slight variances in different dimensions so it’s possible things would inevitably not end the way they would have, possibly ending the infinite chain of Asuna-stealing.

Just *now* as I’m typing this, I’m listening to Vitamen C, “Friends Forever”, and I shed some manly tears… I guess it hasn’t quite sunk in that Negima is actually over… I grew to love so many characters… now it’s over… more manly tears… *le sigh*

I was bummed over how Chisame was treated in the end. I thought she should have been given a bigger role but maybe she would have wanted to be behind the scenes. I like that the rest of the girls were shown as adults and we got insight into what they were doing. I would have liked to see who Negi ended up with for his wife but there is only so much Akamatsu could do in his last chapter.

So apparently there are talks of the reason why Akamatsu-san ending Negima with clearly one more arc to wrap things up and finish the story proper, is because he wanted to spend more time with his new daughter. I can’t confirm either way, that’s just going off what his twitter said and what other people are talking about based on that… but he did say something about hoping we will “follow his next series or squeal” so there may be hope yet for a more complete story.

Yue is one of the few with a brain. The last issue made me feel like it was yue too. Also, I totally agree with wanting to read eva’s love story. Somehow I can’t see nagi betraying negi’s mom….maybe. In general they left everthing open. I feel cheated, it’s ok to leave one question open but there are like four unanswered questions that often kept me “turning” the pages of the manga. The whole original plot was based on finding nagi and then they just go to the magical world to find some lame evil guy for a hundred chapters uhgudbd answers!!

I thought it was pretty obvious that Negi married Makie. Because Makie called Nagi “Father”. Scroll up and look at one of the above scenes where the class just met Nagi. And in the ending she continued being “focused on Negi” in spite of the growing number of suitors after her.

Evangeline isn’t together with Nagi. I thought Nagi and Arika made a pretty straightforward and romantic couple on their own! Nagi confessed to her that he loved her when she ask him why he rescued her from being put to death by her own people.
Evangeline on the other hand still likes Nagi. She saved him from the Mage of the Beginning of Time as seen from “… carried out for the rescue of her loved one…” and that’s why you see Nagi reuniting for the ala rubra and ala alba gathering. She continues to watch over Negi.
What I don’t understand is “… And of the girl in whom she saw herself…” What does this mean? Is Akamatsu referring to Asuna? Makie?? I don’t remember her remarking about any girl in the class being similar to her.

Setsuna and Konoka definitely married ;P

It’s a bit fishy at the part where Chachamaru is wound up every day. Did she marry Negi in the end instead? Hmm. But I don’t think so though.

@zinc: That’s Makie’s wishful thinking. Pretty sure she’s just overexcited and wants Nagi to see her as a daughter and get his approval as a possible love interest for Negi. Reminds me of the many other times I see men and women accidentally or intentionally call a their crush’s parents “mom” or “dad”.
