Negima! 351

Negima!

Asuna….

Negima!

Negima!

Negima!

Negima!

Negima!

… damn it Akamatsu. Damn it. Good bye Asuna ;_;

The updated class roster was interesting though. Also liked how Akamatsu did the riverbank pages. That was certainly quite cinematographic. Just when you think he’s slipping… he pulls chapters like this and 350 off…

I guess this marks the end of the carefree middle school phase of the series. Now, what will Akamatsu be doing with the series? There’s still a ton of stuff unanswered. I just hope it doesn’t turn in to a “rescue Asuna” arc suddenly next week though. I think I might throw things if it happens.

351 chapters….and I’ve been following this since kotarou was introduced…just wow

    I remember originally coming across this in Barnes and Noble around 7 to 8 years ago.. they shrink wrapped it back then ^^;

While reading this chapter, the thought crossed my mind about whether the flow of time is different between the “real” world and “magical” world.. it seemed like they were in the magical world a “long” time, but that could also be solely from how many chapters that whole arc took distorting our impressions..

If they’re indeed different, 100 years in the magical world may not be anywhere near as long in the real world ^^

If they are however, wonder what kind of time skip we might get.. end of “middle school”-era would be a pretty good point to change gears, especially with comments from some such as Yue about wanting to Study in the magical world.

I was kind of disappointed Rakan did not do anything ridiculous in this chapter.

…. As effective as Negi/Konoka bursting into tears was, I was almost as poignantly moved by Konoka’s slight frown in the very beginning of the chapter.

    i think… it will be a time skip…. or something like that…100 years…. xDu…. or maybe i’m too attached to Asuka…to imagine the story without her….. :/

    i really don’t know…

    but that’s my bet….

    @kiryuu

I think the 100 years are kn earth time, and not magical world time. If it was the case that the 100 years would pass in MW time, they wouldn’t be stressing the fact that she is going to be gone and the people she knows will be dead.

Damn, now I can’t wait for next week. But I must say I have a hard time seeing what’s going to happen next. If Akamaru plans to end the manga in a few more chapters, the ending will feel rushed since the main premise of the story hasn’t really been addressed yet (Negi finding his father). If Asuna’s sealing ritual is hijacked by the Lifemaker, it will feel like a cop out after the last two chapters.

The alternatives don’t seem too likely either – if the manga continues after jumping forward 100 years, Akamatsu just killed 80% of his cast; if he plans to continue with no/short time skip, then he just killed off his main heroine.

I guess we’ll see next week.

I found it quite surprising to see demon princess on the class roster at Zazie´s name. I had taken her for strong, but a princess…

Awesome though and a tearjerker chapter.

Quite the tearjerker when Asuna left, especially the expression on Negi and Konoka’s faces.

On a more analytical note, some of the remarks in the class roster deserve a second look.

    1. Sayo: Incident during war, investigations continue. Which war are they talking about? Did Sayo die during a war in the real world? But as far as I can tell, there were no wars that Japan was involved with in 1955, assuming that Sayo died at age 15. Also, love with the headmaster? So the silhouetted figure seen beside Sayo in her Cosmo Entelecheia dream was the headmaster?

    4. Yue: With her friends over there, done. So either Negi went back with Yue to visit her Ariadne friends, or they managed to get permission to come to the real world.

    5. Ako: About her back, Megalo. It is unlikely that Ako got her scar in the magic world, so I have no idea what the Megalomesembria has to do with her. Maybe Negi ask them to remove the scar on her back? This remark does not have the done note, so it probably has not happened yet.

    6. Akira: About Valentine’s. Oh, did Akira ask Negi out on Valentine’s? This same note is beside Makie, Nodoka, and Chisame.

    11. Madoka: ? with Kotarou-kun. For someone as dense as Negi to notice, did something happened between them?

    14. Haruna: Wanted in the Magic World. What did she do?! Did she really go forward with her world domination plan?!

    15. Setsuna: Incident with Tsukuyomi, resolved. So did Setsuna really finish her off in their last battle? Or did she free her after breaking the cursed sword?

    16. Makie: Should meet with her little brother. She has a brother?

    18. Mana: Request as bodyguard. So Mana is part of the project now too. Unlikely that Negi needs protection, so she will probably be guarding the noncombatants like Chisame.

    20. Kaede: Want to learn ninjutsu. I don’t think Negi needs any more skills.

    21. Chizuru: The manipulative type, do not anger. Even Negi has learned to fear Chizuru now!

    24. Hakase: Scout her, done, contact Godel. She is either going to be helping Negi or Godel from now on.

    28. Natsumi: Kotarou-kun’s girlfriend. It is pretty much official now. One of those two probably crossed out the remark.

    29. Ayaka: About uncle, done. It was her father that allowed the Yukihiro corporation to lend Negi a hand, so this is something else. Not sure what, though. Also, amazing pactio indeed!

    30. Satsuki: Plans for studying abroad, France. Aww, that means the Chao Bao Zi is going to close.

    31. Zazie: Princess of the Demon Realm. So her real status is confirmed now. I wonder why she was at Mahora in the first place?

    The other notes are self-explanatory.

I was impressed at how emotional this chapter got, and I also thought the scene by the river was well done. For some reason, I expected that she would kiss him at the end of that.

Umm, you probably shouldn’t have said that, now I have a bad feeling about this..

Whatever happens, we will see a drastic change to negima, I guess.

    29. Ayaka: About uncle, done.

It’s impossible to tell from the translation, but maybe Negi refers to her father as “uncle”, as children will sometimes do to unrelated older men.

Wow, this kinda reminds me of what happened in the anime. How they killed off Asuna even for an episode or so. Though I couldn’t help but laugh at it. How it was so ridiculous, that they would kill Asuna off. Like something of that degree would never happen in the series…. and here we are now. Of course they’re not killing her off, but I still never expected this turn of events….damn. All I can say is, I’m very much interested in seeing the direction this series goes now. Since the main heroine is more or less gone now. What are you going to do, Akamatsu?

  15. Azure Said,

    February 1, 2012 @ 7:37 am

The first few typical-Akamatsu Pages felt out of synch with the whole chapter but it didn’t stop me from getting all teary eyed by the last few pages.

I nominate Chisame to step up and replace Asuna for 100 years until she comes back.

  16. Alcren Said,

    February 1, 2012 @ 4:48 pm

to be honest, you cant really count Asuna as the main heroine after the last arc. considering she wasnt even there till the very end. she’s more deus ex machina in the magical world. Chisame was more main heroine in the last arc. yes the arc was about rescuing asuna but it was less about asuna as princess and more rescuing their classmate and friend.

  17. Oblivionlord Said,

I think what’s gonna happen next is that either asuna gets kidnapped by the mage of beginning and negi rescues her or asuna a hundred years from the future will return from the future with a time machine it’s not impossible for her not to come back from the future well chao did travel from the future the only problem is if her memory is still intact as asuna well that’s what I hope is gonna happen. I really hate to see asuna not being with her friends.

Damn this is just sad… I stopped reading Negima for a while even though it was so good because just felt that something like this was going to happen soon… and it did.

    @ Hyosuke
The anime? Hahaha still remembered how horrible it was… all versions of it except the OVAs.
