Shakugan no Shana Final 01

Shakugan no Shana Final

Ah.. one of the shows that started my blogging hobby. The three-year delay really hasn’t been kind to my memory. Now I think I gotta go back and rewatch the second season, but luckily, the entire first episode is basically a memory refresher course plus setting the new direction of the series as well.

For one, Shana feels a lot more mature now that Yuji’s gone, but otherwise the rest of the cast hasn’t felt like they’ve changed much. Really, there’s not much to pick on this episode for me, except for the beginning teaser, which unfortunately was already aired earlier haha.

One good change though is the music of the show. KOTOKO’s still doing the OP, but with supercell’s ryo doing composition, the song is feels really fresh yet still retains the general feel of the Shana OP’s so far. ED is totally different now with ALTIMA doing it, going for more of a dance number than the reflective feel of the ED’s in the first two seasons. Song isn’t bad really, but I guess it doesn’t feel right as an ED. I guess it did make an interesting mood-setter for Yuuji’s ascension to the Seireiden’s throne though LOL.

P.S. Welcome back, Eclipse!

I don’t know. While people familiar with the novels won’t be too surprised at what happened near the end, many of those only following the anime will be confused on how the heck this episode segues properly with the end of the second season. Crappy anime-original Statue of Pride arc aside, how was the happy victory of Shana and Yuuji link to… Yuuji becoming the boss of Bal Masque?

sighs…. seriously yuji’s gone from annoyingly weak from the 1st season to ugly fag in the 3rd . was expecting the 1st episode of season III to have more of a WOW factor =(

No usual “character reintroduction” on this episode and instead… Kickstart this season with a disappearance turned into bad guy Yuji?

Man, this final season will be worse right?

The only “problem” with this episode was the first two minutes. They show Sairei no Hebi, identify him as Yuji, then transition into the immediate continuation of where S2 ended, with Yuji disappearing… and somehow expect people to care. Any possible suspense that came from him disappearing is negated from the beginning by showing that he’s still there.

    @kuro
i feel it too, i wish mami kawada sing for the ed. afterall it become a tradition where kotoko and mamikawada sing for shana either op or ed.

i guess the story will become two way story , one focus on shana another focusing on yuji on his way to conquest in each episode.

Shana was a show that I held dear to my heart in my beginning anime days. But over the years my opinion of the show has changed. I rewatched the first season and it simply wasn’t as good as I remembered.
Either way one thing I noticed was how much the villains suck in Shana. They are often just too weird to be taken seriously. And now Yuuji is one of them. It was once my opinion that if you make anything evil it automatically makes it more awesome. Yuuji has caused me to change that opinion. What’s worse is that he is clearly one of those “I need to do this in order to save you” type villains.

But well…I kinda hope this season will rekindle the love I once had for the series….

Well, Shana’s not known for its quality story-telling anyways. I guess you can’t really expect better from them at this point.

This episode made me feel concerned about the characters – and not Yuji, but all those affected by his disappearance. It also reminded me of the little quirks that made them so charming, from Wilhelmina’s de arimasu and inner dialogue to the Margery’s bottle-hugging. I am really curious how the love dynamic in the main love square will work out now that Kazumi is feeling the weight of class reps confession. This might yet develop inbto everybody gets a pair situation…

DISCLAIMER: Incoming Flaming Rant here! Not meant to offend, but I had to get it off my chest.

Does anyone know what happens to the Sakai x Shana pairing in Light Novel cannon so far? I’m a really huge fan of that ship, but all of the cock blocking and complete lack of progress in 2 seasons and 50+ episodes has worn my patience completely thin. The first season we get an absolute bullshit conclusion where Shana’s confession was herp derp retconed just to drag out the plot with more annoying wishy-washy uselessness.

The second season was FILLED with Shana getting cock blocked. Hell, they even summoned a fucking TORNADO with it’s own SUPER POWERED Crimson Denizen at EXACTLY THE RIGHT MOMENT. This shit goes on all the way to the tease at the last ep, where they hint at you that MAYBE, MAYBE, Yuji FINALLY made a choice. (At this point I’d even settle for Yuji x ANYONE) Then in the first ep of season three they give Shana x Yuji fans a big F*CK you in the face.

JC staff has a history of being absolutely fcktards with obvious pairings, see Zero no Tsukaima. It’s like they’re afraid of advancing the plot after establishing a pairing. Are they so short sighted that they believe that once a couple’s feelings become requited, there is no more potential for growth? That’s totally bull, just look at Clannad. The main pairing got together in one season and the story was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Or is it that JC staff is looking to milk money by keeping 3rd wheel Yoshida a “possible” pairing even though almost everyone knows it’s not going anywhere? Well, if it’s the fault of the source material then that’s more forgivable. JC staff did Toradora’s end properly after all.

    tl;dr

Is there Shana x Yuji in the light novel? If there isn’t, then I won’t even bother to watch anymore since that’s the only worthwhile reason for me to watch this show. I can’t possibly put myself through the pain of another season of HERP DERP “I CONFESS BUT I DON’T”.

Flamestrike: Not to spoil, but the answer is: Yes. Not in the way many people expected though, but Yuji makes a decision.

Darth Yuuji. Like Anakin, he is doing it all for his loved one. Ah… nothing like love turning someone to the Dark Side.
