… and they all lived happily ever after. The End.
First of the endings of this month, Steins;Gate bowed out decently. I can’t say I was excited about it since Wiki spoiled me a long time ago about the ending, but it still left a nice warm feeling in my heart.
For the show itself though, I felt like it could have been better, especially during the middle episodes where Okarin had to solve the characters’ problems one by one, which resulted in a few cringe-worthy episodes. Otherwise, it carried itself quite well for an adaptation and definitely did manage to bring out the struggle Okarin faced in unraveling the mess he started.
Another aspect that disappointed me is the whole CERN angle, which went to nowhere apart from being the sole scapegoat of Mayushii’s inevitable deaths. I was really hoping to have some exposition on that part, but it eventually got lost through all that looping around. In the end, the blame just fell on Mr. Braun and that was it. Some of the science-fiction parts did also get too fiction for me, but oh well, can’t really expect realism from this.
As much I’d like to say S;G is one of the better shows of the year, I don’t think I could honestly claim that without lying to myself. It IS a decent enough show, but was it impressive enough for me? No, unfortunately not that much overall. Still, it’s watchable, but I really wonder what is the movie that’s following it going to be about. Hopefully not a digest version of the series.
