The Idolmaster

What I watched: The IDOLM@STER
What I expected: WORKING!!
What I got: The IDOLM@STER

Well, okay, it wasn’t that bad. As an introduction episode, I’d say it does its job quite well introducing the thirteen girls nicely and equally. It helps too that each girl is pretty much of one personality stereotype, so that shuffling frequently amongst them helped keep the episode interesting.

I’m so glad they aren’t going with the unvoiced and faceless Producer-san for the series though, I would just fucking give up on it if I had to read moonspeak half the time every episode.

Still, probably going to stick with the show for a few more weeks just to see what I brings to the table. God, so many comedies on Thursday/Friday.

You expected Working!! but did not provide a surprised Poplarface. Poplar is not amused. Poplar also remains very, very small.

My knowledge of the franchise was limited to fanarts, nicovideos and few episodes of Xenoglossia to torture myself. I was skeptical but I am glad to have sit through this episode. Now I cans ee why fans of the franchise are glad to leave that Xenoglossia nonsense behind them. And perhaps cast them in dark history like TypeMoon fans with a certain adapation by JCStaff.

I only know IM@S through watching videos and stuff though. I really like the first-person view gimmick (except the silent lead), made it a bit more personal. It’s not as if they are stuck on that angle as they do stray away from time to time, so it’s a quite effective and not overused style.

The last time I was this excited and sad that I need to wait a week for the next ep… it was Hatsukoi Limited. Kinda says something for my (bad?) taste in anime.

Reading the replies saying “I’ve only seen fanworks and never the main materials”(which also describe my own experience), I wonder how many people like me are watching this to see what proper “cannon” idolm@ster is.

Miki’s “oh, also, my breasts are big” shouldn’t have been that funny but made me laugh anyway. It’s going to be hard to get used to the cast not saving the world with giant mecha though, handing out CDs at a store just doesn’t have the same dorama. Does anyone even own CDs anymore? Also miss Yui Horie as Yukiho, but in a couple episodes I’ll get used to the new voices.

Being one of the few english speaker’s who owns the original game (the first and L4U, I haven’t been able to get the second yet sadly T_T), I have to say it seems pretty faithful to the characters so far. Yukiho’s attempts to dig holes, Azusa’s incapability to navigate, Miki’s painful laziness, but strangely, Yayoi seemed a little calm compared to what I would’ve expected. There’s definitely a fair number of in-jokes, but for the most part I’d say you guys aren’t missing much.

I’m just wondering how it’s going to handle itself in future episodes. The series itself works great as a game, but I’m a little worried it could too easily become rather run-of-the-mill as an anime. Well, I just hope they can keep it going and build off their okay start.

Well, I’ve played the PSP and DS games (without much knowledge of moonrunes, but a lot of the events are subbed on the internet) and I am a pretty big fan of the franchise, so yeah, I’m expecting to see “canon” idolm@ster.

Why are all the girls from SoRaNoWoTo becoming idols? Too much wine at the fortress?

I’ll be waiting for the episode Producer-san will get the bright idea to okay a “promotional movie” featuring the idols. We’ll get to see behind the scenes in the making of the famous hit movie called Idolm@ster:Xenoglossia. /sarcasm

Goddamnit guys, don’t you care about the industry!? (I’m kidding in case you couldn’t tell)

Still though, why the fuck did they need to give the Producer that look, couldn’t he be all suave and cool without glasses and shounen expressions?

IM@S > A Channel. I want to see how things work out for the girls behind the scenes, so I’m waiting for the next episode.

@luffyluffy: expecting service, eh? Go back to your One Piece.

Reminded me of the very first school-festival-movie episode of Haruhi. Can be a good intro, or a bad one, it all depends on the follow up.

    What I expected: A harem.
What I got: An entertaining and interesting first ep. AAAANNNNDDD my harem.
What I wish: Please stop using this listing format. ^^

    Ep 1 = 8.2/10
As said above, it all depends on the follow-up as to whether or not this is a good introductory ep. But this combined with R-15, Morita-san wa Mukuchi, Mayo Chiki, Usagi Drop, Croisee, Nichijou, and Hanasaku Iroha seems like too much. I need another tear jerker masterpiece like Anohana….

What is Key working on right now by the way? I seriously need to know Kurogane-senpai!!!
