Ikoku Meiro no Croisée 01

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

D’aaaaawww Yune.

Ok, Ikoku Meiro survived the anime transition quite well, and maybe even better than the manga too since there’s colors and “HNNNGH CUTE!” Yune. Her seiyuu, Toyama Nao, is showing quite a bit of promise for her third major role and second as a leading one.

Probably one of the niggling issues that didn’t translate quite well to the anime would be probably the supposed “language barrier”, but to be honest, they’ve made it quite subtle. When you rewatch the episode, you actually see that Yune and Claude aren’t really communicating directly until the last few minutes of the episode. I think that was really brilliant on hindsight. Since the other alternative would probably be forcing everyone to talk in French… I’d rather prefer this way instead!

I am a sucker for cultural shock. And the Aria vibes sealed the deal for me. I can notice they do use a few french words in the dialogue, like Japonais, the french for Japanese, instead of nihon-jin, to make it more french-like.

Hm, language barriers in anime have always been shakey since everyone’s speaking the same language. I guess they get around that by having echo or having the characters not understand one another.

I noticed nobody comments about the particular decorative style of Claude’s ironworking — which is also the style of most buildings, houserooms and furniture we see in the anime. It’s a pity, because such works of fine art are definitely worth of proper appreciation.

Uh. I totally got that from go. The shock for me was that the girl spoke and understood french. OMG she’s like 6 or 7 and knows 2 languages? thats like ultra smarts.

Anyway. Plenty of cutesy stuff, and good story so far. Looking forward to more eps from this series.

Kurogane… I hope you don’t drop it like GOSICK does. I mean, you got hooked with VIctorique at first then it disappeared on your blog after the second half.

Still, this anime is so friggin cute!
