Negima! 330

Oh boy, the last boss finally makes its appearance!

This page had me playing some grand, evil boss appearance BGM

Holy crap, all the lackeys got resurrected as well. That fucking Secundum!

Still, Negi and Fate try to put up a valiant fight….

Even the girls aren’t spared as well. Dai pincchi!

As expected, injured and tired out, both Negi and Fate are hopelessly overpowered. Triple Khilipl Astrape is also pretty damn nasty too.

Again, that fucking Secundum!

DUN DUN DUN! Evangeline finally steps up to the battlefield!

Oh god, this entrance brings back sooooo much nostalgia. Kyoto Arc must’ve been half a decade ago by now. Akamatsu sure knows how to give tribute to us longtime fans. I just hope that Evangeline doesn’t deus ex machina the whole thing like last time and gives us a really great fight vs the Lifemaker and his minions. It would be awesome to see a triple combo of Negi, Fate and Evangeline kicking ass.

Eva will kick Secun-dumb’s ass first THEN get owned.

Hm… the only thing I’m worried about right now is Fate fading away. I want to believe that what Negi said about needing him all along for his secret master plan to save the world wasn’t just sweet talk.

It’s those chessmaster habits of his what make him such a badass, anyways. Well, I guess there’s also his arsenal of endgame-class spells, but that’s just accessory.

My chosen song for this chapter:

Okay, I predict: Eva will wipe the floor with everyone at first and then the Lifemaker will defeat her as one of his “creations”. In the meantime however, Negi and his group will have enough power again to battle him.

The only thing this can make it even better would be Nodoka using the Masterkey to revive Rakan! On the other hand, it would make things end a little to fast…

Half way though the chapter I was thinking they are probably going to get reinforcements from somewhere…. then eva shows up. She sure knows how to make an enterence too bad theres no gaint demon for her to blow up as her enterence this time though.

As much as I’m looking forward to Eva-related carnage in the next chapter… what happened to Magia Erebea? Even if he’s exhausted, didn’t he already reach its “complete” form, where it’s continually in use?

Negi’s perpetual lightning form was powered by absorbing twoThousand Lightning spells, and from the earlier battles, we know he was absorbing everything thrown his way. So why didn’t being hit by that massive pile of magic give him a massive powerup?

I suppose things needed to get bad enough that Eva needed to step in (and damn it, it’s the first extended sighting of her in a LONG time, so I don’t care about the “why” any more), but that doesn’t sit quite right with me.

I really like how everything is unfolding : D
    Eva ftw!!!
although … i think… they really will need someone else to balance this situation…

in the rankan fight , negi uses a large magical seal o something like that in order to absorb rankan magic

Yeah, he can’t just absorb any old hit he takes.

Anyway, I’m seconding Doc, my prediction is she cleans house on the minions pretty well but probably gets taken out by the Lifemaker. Negi getting taken down at this point and Eva stepping up pretty decisively ends my predictions of an Eva final boss fight unless she pulls something like killing the Lifemaker and then getting possessed by it or something.

Still, I’m rather excited by the possibility of seeing Eva’s magia erebea. She’s had a lot more time than Negi to develop it and I’m hoping she’ll show some novel applications.

my understanding was that negi took magia erebea beyond what Eva had done with it, but maybe misremembering stuff.. she could also be above having to use such things now. still, was great to have her show up like that ^^

    @Daik and Stan:

Using the Rakan fight, where he was using the incomplete Magia Erebea, it was never quite explained what the circle was for (ch247,p15). The obvious implication is that it was what allowed him to absorb Rakan’s punch…thing, but since Magia Erebea was explicitly defined as the ability to absorb attacking magic, it may just have been a supplement due to its incomplete nature at that time. After all, during the initial training for it (ch208), he fully stopped and absorbed copy-Eva’s magic without a circle.

More recently, chapter 301has everyone commenting on how he’s continually using it and absorbing magic while he’s fighting… though that was with the second incomplete version of Magia Erebea.

Chapter 314, he finally completes it. Chapter 315 he’s stopping Quartum’s flames barehanded with no ill effects. Chapter 318, he’s tanking Tertium’s hits, apparently by using Magia Erebea to absorb all the energy from the attack (“maintaining Magia Erebea as a constant natural condition” – Chamo). Chapter 328, he and Tertium are going full power, and it’s the first time he doesn’t seem to be able to just absorb an attack (though it gets nullified? somehow anyway). Chapter 329, he gets impaled by something again. Chapter 330, he’s hit by multiple high-level magics, and Magia Erebea doesn’t seem to be functioning at all.

With regard to why Negi did not absorb the 3X Thousand Thunderbolt to get stronger, there are a few possible explanations.

One, he is too worn out to take in so much damaging magic. Two, he needs the proper preparation first. Three, Magia Erebea itself has evolved differently.

But the most possible explanation is that it’s simply for dramatic effect, for Kitty’s big damn hero moment.

Always a delight to see Kitty. <3

His body has become that of a demon, something “inhuman”, in order to cope with Magia Erebea. He could tank those blows because he just became that much tougher.

He had never exhibited the ability to absorb the enemy’s attacks with JUST Magia Erebea. The one time he had used Taiindou he needed a large scale magic circle.

While Magia Erebea is constantly turned on, he still needed to cast Chilipl Astrape to switch to corporeal lightning form. He was also never explicitly shown to absorb enemy attacks.

Seriously, I don’t get why you treated him being able to take hits as absorbing energy.

  23. Shiden Said,

    July 2, 2011 @ 1:56 pm

When he was tanking Fate’s (Tertium) punch, it showed Magia Erebea’s mark where Fate had hit him (318, page 11). As far as I can recall, that only shows up while he’s using it to absorb magic (when not using his lightning forms).

If he had just straight-tanked the hit like Rakan would have done, I wouldn’t have made the assumption. Instead it’s shown with an indication that he used some effect of Magia Erebea to do it.

As for needing a circle… going back to chapter 208, the first time he used Magia Erebea against copy-Eva, he absorbed her magic attack without any supplemental techniques. Then during the mook rush toward the Dynamis fight, it was commented that he was using it to supplement his own magic, with no additional techniques used.

At this point, and it’s what I said in my first post… I think Ku:Nel’s last option is the right one. Dramatic effect demands that Negi get beaten down.

I think Eva will lose against the Lifemaker but she’ll be able to throw some punches for awhile. I think she, Negi, and Fate make one amazing fighting group.
