Puella Magi Madoka Magica 11 broadcast cancelled

Official site news just updated with the announcement that CBC, TBS and MBS cancelling this week’s Madoka Magica broadcast.

Since these three are the only stations airing it, that means there won’t be Madoka 11 this week. No idea on the new broadcast date yet, but don’t keep your fingers crossed for this week.

EDIT: Nico-Nico and AnimeOne will be airing episode 10 as scheduled. (Twitter)

Safety first. Lives are at stake and nuke reactors continue to meltdown. Have to devote all manpower to relief efforts.

    Hope they pull through

It’s just a setup to match up with Walpurgis Night.

  13. Azure Said,

    March 16, 2011 @ 8:44 pm

@ Phuong yea if it actually is delayed by 1 entire week, the final episode would match Walpurgis (If I did my maths properly)

    How Ironic that would be

I don’t know what the work on the Fukushima emergency has to do with it – what, are they sending SHAFT animators to run the coolant pumps?

Not that delaying broadcasts of gloomy apocalyptic cartoons while they search for the lost on the Tohoku coast isn’t a perfectly reasonable action…

^With news of more earthquakes, the delay might reach that far back.

  18. qwerty Said,

    March 16, 2011 @ 10:29 pm

^ those are “just” aftershocks, weaker than the originating earthquake and on any account hitting an area that is already past the point of being further destroyed.

I don’t know, I was expecting this since the first reaction to the disaster was to slow down EVERYTHING. Quite a few industries are a snails pace at the moment (gaming, anime, etc.), while the japan’s northern-east cost picks up the pieces.

Myself personally, this sucks… but I am ok with it. With what I have seen, my connection to the culture, and my understanding of the japanese… now just doesn’t seem right to show Madoka.
At the least, I was expecting a 2-3 week delay… so, baring anything else, I can wait.

  22. FlameStrike Said,

    March 17, 2011 @ 12:59 am

Yeah, this sucks, but considering the horrible circumstances it only makes sense that things like anime get delayed for the more important relief efforts. I wish the best for Japan and its people.

  23. qwerty Said,

    March 17, 2011 @ 1:36 am

^ that would make more sense if you could connect a decrease in anime to an increase in relief effort.

it’s not like people will stop looking for survivors so they can get home in time for Madoka.

you could make an argument that anime with prime broadcasting slots could be preempted for fund raising efforts or additional news coverage but i doubt late night anime slots would serve of much use for those efforts.

Word is that Shaft’s building was damaged in the quake. This post says: two week delay in Madoka, 1 week delay in Gosick, season two of Index indefinitely delayed.

    That’s probably not all, either.
