Fractale 01

Only 3 seconds of Kana-tan in this episode. I sad ;_;.

Seconding j1m0ne’s opinion, the anime version is actually a lot more boring than the manga… herp derp. I watched this episode 2 times, once raw and once subbed and I was pretty much double-tasking throughout each watch and I still could follow it without problems. Also, the lack of Kana-tan saddened me.

Not calling for his resignation yet, but i hope the pacing won’t be this slow next week.

P.S. And oh, Blue-kun just drew attention to how the character designs in the anime are totally different from the ones in the official promo art. Herp derp.

Blue-kun: //
Blue-kun: it’s not even simplified, they just got how it looked in the original and made some ugly versions of it

Yeah, what the fuck happened between the character designer and the animation director?!

Bitching about the change in designs is nothing new, people have been doing that since the first promotional images came out.

Honeslty, aside from the color changes, I don’t see why people expected them to look the same in the first place.

Change in design is actually something to bitch about because of the false advertisement. Imagine you get posters for a movie featuring some big stars in the leading roles, but when you come to the cinema you find out that the actual actors are just look-a-likes. That would be a good ground for a legal action :)

But, anime designs NEVER look like the original designs. They might look similar, but there are always SOME changes.

Reminds me of when I first saw a promo image for Sora no Woto. Something like this.×331.jpg

When it aired, the design changed to be more K-ON like.(#゚Д゚)

“But, anime designs NEVER look like the original designs. They might look similar, but there are always SOME changes.”

The point is it hardly looks anything like the originals here. And I’m not just talking about hair color and stuff, the art itself seems to be done by someone else and all they felt compelled to follow was the general appearance of the original characters.

Soranowoto, as Aeon said, also suffered from this, but in that particular case one can speculate it was done because of how hard it’d have been to animate the original design. And even then, you could clearly see some similarities between the originals and the character designs used in the show.

In the end what really bothers me is that the original Fractale art doesn’t strike me as anything they could not have animated properly. And as such, the drastic changes seem to be unjustified, in particular because the episode, animation-wise, didn’t quite live up to my expectations either. It looked okay, but only one or two scenes could be considered ‘quite good’. For me, Soranowoto did it better, and not only was the anime’s art prettier to look at, it also featured some much more impressive animation.

Wait, weren’t those the original designs for the anime itself? The show was meant to be anime-original from what I’ve heard…

My biggest let-down was when I realized that the ending song from the RAW wasn’t a mix of foreign lyrics but just awkwardly performed english.

What puzzles me, is that the manga art is more like the images we saw, rather than the anime. The Fractale anime website character intro page also has the regular pictures.

I read the manga, and I didn’t bat an eye at the design changes. It’s not like it went from looking awesome to looking like crap. It’s just different.

Hey, for all we know, Diamond Multimedia has taken over the tech of the future and brought back their Rio PMP300 that could use SmartMedia memory cards…

I was interested in the anime until the last bit where the girl jumped out.

Having never read the manga, I’m coming into this completely fresh. This felt like a dystopia, and I absolutely love dystopia stories. There was some humor, which wasn’t horrible, and the art made me feel like I was watching a movie for some reason. I was enjoying it.

And then the girl appears. I don’t know her personality, so I can’t exactly judge, but I have a really bad feeling about this. She may be a wonderful character… but I’m really afraid she’s just going to be annoying. One of those girls that get really angry over the main character’s slightest mistake.

Oh well. I loved the first part of the show. The pacing felt great. It was an introduction to a new world, and sometimes you can’t just rush headfirst into explaining something like that. It didn’t force all the information about the world into the reader’s head within the first couple minutes. Instead we got a drawn out introduction into this world and how the people within it act and feel. I appreciated it.

I hope the second episode holds true to the first part of this one. I’m still really worried about this girl and what she’ll be like.
