TOGAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! わ~。°(°´д`°)°。~んわ~。°(°´д`°)°。~んわ~。°(°´д`°)°。~ん

While I was spoiled about this event a long while back, it still hit me pretty hard when it finally happened in the anime.

It’s a great cliffhanger though, and a pretty good way to set up the push for the final episode. I do hope that Togame’s death will be justifiable properly by Princess Hitei, because she surely hinted she didn’t want to do this at all, but circumstances were unforgivable. And that last part with Emonzaemon’s reveal of Togame’s real name/nature(?) as well interests me.

Also, the final reveal about Shikizaki Kiki’s time paradoxing abilities had better tie in properly to Princess Hitei’s mysterious background and powers. I was pretty surprised about the true nature of his powers.

Ah, one more month to wait… :|. The epic showdown in the previews for the last episode better be living up to expectations!

It was funny, because I had been somehow mispoiled in being told that Shichika himself killed Togame. But regardless the whole “I don’t care that your father killed my father” scene was very touching and gave the final scene alot more meaning.

I was equally saddened by Pengin’s death. The fact that he was willing to stand-up to Emonzaemon AT ALL made me smile. I really want to hope that there’s a sliver of chance that he’s alive, but I won’t keep my fingers crossed.

Nisio Isin, you are one cruel dude.

Didn’t Houou slash Emonzaemon with that healing-negating sword too? Shouldn’t he be dead or something? Well, I guess if Pengui could manage to get his health back, so can he.

Moreover wasn’t Houou supposed to be immortal? Or did his awesome ultimate skill end up being Emonzaemon’s shadow martial arts? Whatever was the link between those two, anyways? Were they childhood friends? Fellow ninjas? Twins? Split personalities?

…actually, that would be kind of fun. That Houou and Emonzaemon were actually the same person all along, and that Pengui was lying about everything with him being the REAL mastermind. That would kind of explain why Houou didn’t finish Emonzaemon off… but then the whole Shikizaki Kiki possession thing would become kind of confusing. Of course, it could’ve been just Houou pretending, but it looked pretty damn realistic to me.

Will they resort to Bita to heal Togame back to life? Is she dead for good? Will the show deliver and reward us with an epic 13 deviant blade free-for-all fight to the death? Who the fuck is the Shogun? Is going to show up at all??

This will be, without a doubt, the longest month of the year.

    Athos:

Isin probably does wants us to consider all the possibilities. Considering that Dokuto Mekki has the largest amount of poison in it, it warrants the idea that Houou went insane. However if we perceive the “poison” as Kiki’s essence, then we just follow that Kiki did indeed take over Houou.

I don’t think the Shogun will appear, considering that Katanagatari is supposed to be simply historical fiction lost in the annals of time. But you do pose a good question, which goddamn Shogun is it?

I mean they say the Sengoku era was atleast a hundred years before the present. Meaning that it could be Hidetada, Iemitsu, or Ietsuna. The problem is they never give a date for anything, they only say “after the Sengoku era.”

    @Avisch

About that… what I meant wasn’t really so much about “Which Shogun was ruling while this was happening”. I’m really not very knowledgeable about the subject. I was talking about what Togame foreshadowed at the end of episode 9 about the previous Shogun, or “Kyuu General”, or however they decided to translate it.

The conversation led us to believe that the previous katana hunt was foiled for reasons other than the absurd strength of the Deviant Blade wielders, since Outou Nokogiri was pretty much a normal wooden sword and represented no threat to the shogun’s army. She then said that the shogun might have had a hidden reason to stop the hunt, but this idea was never explored.

It’s one of the things I assumed would be addressed in this or the next episode. I figured we’d get to meet the Shogun himself at some point, but we got Shikizaki Kiki instead… so I don’t think we are getting any more surprise guests.

I also got spoiler from episode 9 about Togame will be dead. But only that, I never thought she will killed by Emonzaemon. Its still sad even I know already from spoiler.

    Damn you, Emonzaemon.

    re: Anthos

As Kiki explained, Houou is older than he actually looks. He’s able to graft on body parts on himself to extend his own abilities and lifespan (such as the left hand of one of his buddy). It is entirely possible that he was on-hand when Aioi Corp was destroyed by Maniwa Corp, thus the eternal hatred by Emonzaemon Souda.

Tears for Togame. I had somehow managed to avoid spoilers for this, so this hit me really hard.

Emonzaemon was ordered to kill Togame since her family connections brand her a traitor in the Shogunate’s eyes. Hitei had no real say in the matter.

Now, the final Deviant Blade is completed, but its wielder has fallen. But the blade is now pointed inexorably at the heart of the government itself, its edge sharper than ever believed possible.

I’m really looking forward to the Mega Man boss rush next episode.

So Hitei hime is confirmed to be a descendant of Shikizaki Kiki and she could have the same soothseer ability.
Kiki said his family objective has always been to change history (or to falsify it) destroying the shogunate. If Hitei is still working towards this goal it might be that she planned (or saw) from the start that killing Togame after the long journey would bring Shichika to kill the shogun.

I really liked this episode very much!!

I read up to “I do hope that Togame’s death…” before I closed the tab. Damn man.

Most likely Hitei does not have the soothsayer ability as she stated that her ancestor(most likely Kiki) possessed abilities that were not even passed down to her.

How can you not know that one one them dies in the end? Even without spoilers.
It’s been obvious for like 7 episodes.

    re XYN

Yes, Hitei said that Shikizaki has powers that were not even passed down to her, but Shikizaki said that his family had soothseers abilities. So I think she might have some powers, they just are not as strong as the ones of his ancestor.
Let’s see how this evolves (and let’s try to avoid spoilers from light novel readers!)

i think perhaps watching these episodes with weeks and weeks between each of them makes it so that i forget a lot of the details..
somehow i also managed to escape all of these supposed hints that one of them was going to die. i admit that this latest ep had heavier hints in it, but where were these hints in the previous episodes?

anyway, my prediction is: if togame insists on being actually dead, shichika will consider fucking up the government out of grief/anger/revenge; however, at the last minute he will decide to thwart hitei-hime’s plans by simply…not doing anything drastic to change the course of history, for the sake of togame’s (and her dad’s) sacrifice. THE END.
how they will manage to fill up 50 minutes with that is anyone’s guess.

i do kind of hope she survives so that they can go on to travel around japan again to draw up their map.
