Katanagatari 10

Am I the only one who thinks this episode was a bit too preachy? Well I guess it was pretty much required exposition, but still…

Ah well, at least we still have Hitei-hime.

Katanagatari

And to summarise the important stuff this episode:

  • Togame’s past revealed
  • Hitei-hime is possibly Shikizaki Kiki’s descendent.
  • Kyotoryuu is Shikizaki’s final, perfected Deviant Blade… which means Shichika is one as well!

With that out of the way, only two more episodes! They better not be boring!

Not that big a deal. The author himself is like “Who cares?”

The real highlight of the episode was Shogi lady kicking Shichika’s ass in hand-to-hand combat. I think she was hinting that Shichika should be able to wield swords if he wanted to.

Actually I was taken aback when they revealed Shichika was one of Kiki’s Perfected Blades as well. Oh well, it does make some sense though.

And I don’t consider posts made 3 days after the subs come out to warrant a spoiler warning.

Not at all. To me the only redeeming quality was the revelations. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t forward any character traits we didn’t already know about.

I got spoiled on Kyotoryuu = 13th blade before the episode, but I didn’t know that it was to be revealed in this chapter/episode. Anyway, to me it was quite the perfect revelation because considering all the crazy things about the swords it would make sense for the last sword to be 100% non-physical.

Anyway I’m excited for badass Houou next episode. I swear every 5 minutes he got up to this point were perfect in defining his character.

I’m definitely the type that over-analyzes everything, and this episode really gave me the feeling of learning an important valuable lesson without knowing exactly what it was. Maybe it’s from suffering a rather disappointing defeat at a Kendo tournament a couple days ago.

Preachy or not, this episode definitely made me contemplate the ideas of “facing that which we are avoiding” and “to throw away all objectives to obtain the objective”. One of the biggest appeals of this series has been the introspective moments and how they’ve flowed throughout the year.

“possibly his descendant”? Kiki was described as a denying type of guy, and Princess HItei literally means Princess Denying so yeah.
Unless there’s another final twist in the last episode it’s certain she’s his descendant.

“Yasuri-kun, people die when they are killed”

ahahaha.wav, this line….. how viewer describe this translation. This line similar with Emiya Shirou translation in Fate TV series back then.
