I have an official position on Divorce and an official position on not promoting it. That does not, however mean that I have not divorced once (or twice, or thrice, or maybe a bit more than that). The two are entirely separate so there is no hypocrisy.
Oh, and try to put some substance in you posts in the future. Blatant trolling won;t be tolerated in my kingdom.
It’s not that much difference to people reading/replying/posting on other forums beside people choose to censor out anything that don’t like to read. Is fansub hurting the industry… in some way yes, but do people choose to ignore it so they can get their free anime? thats a yes for some people too.
Either way I don’t see the irony… the industry has a lot of problem both in japan and america. Fansub is a mean for some people use to watch anime which is also a contributing factor.
I think we all admit that their encyclopedia and news are fine.
But their articles run criticism of anime towards ridiculous manners, the best example for me is one article pointing out that Tytania was “too much of a space opera.” Sure the show had it’s awful moments, but that is completely missing the point. Or saying that Kannagi by episode two wasn’t good because it wasn’t fleshing out it’s characters.
I think it’s easy to summarize ANN’s fansubing stance as whiteknighting, and to be fair I also had those whiteknight stances towards fansubs (when I wasn’t watching them)…..WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD.
ANN..I’ve barely had any contact with their forums and now I’m glad I don’t. I’ve dealt with less than agreeable forumgoers/moderators before and I don’t want to go back to that.
Though…scanning a tiny bit of that thread before class — A later response though said something about them using fansubs for the preview guide because that’s what everyone else in the whole damn world is using and they want to keep everything relevant to their audience by keeping up with everything that’s airing. That’d be fine and all if it didn’t mean that they’d bend their own rule (that they’ll chew up everyone else for breaking) just to get more internet cookie points with whatever readers they actually have.
Though I probably have no position to talk back to them since, as a scanlator and fansubber, I’m probably considered the scum of the earth by the ANN folk…unless they use scanlations unofficially too?
I guess I’m in the minority here. I don’t see any big difference between ANN and any other site with a forum. It’s where idiots and intelligent people go to argue and babble.
As for that specific comment, what’s the problem? What I got from it is that ANN is a site that does not openly promote fansubbing. Why would they, since they legally stream anime? However, what individual members of the ANN staff watch is their own business.
I hate forums in general because I hate the people in them.ANN is an okay site to get some news, but the people in their forums represent a very tiny slice of the fans who probably don’t have anywhere else to go due to their less than pleasant nature and homosexual tendencies.Well,I made that last part up but my gaydar keeps telling me that its true.
In short, just ignore them.Everybody is happier that way.
Mappy, how would you know that the staff of ANN has issues unless they told you, and even if they do have issues, so what? The features are mostly opinion pieces. When it comes to opinion, you can say what you want
kagami, are you under the impression that the art of Shin-chan could never possibly be hated? Art is subjective. There are classic works of art that have survived decades, but people HATE them. Again, opinion.
I don’t get the hate for ANN, as if the reviews of individual staff represent the opinion of the site as a whole. If you read all the reviews on the site, you can most likely find the reviewer who likes what you like.
YotaruVegeta: I read the opinion pieces. I read their reviews. They have issues. And not just of the psychological kind. But their forums are appalling pits of development-stunted shite. So everyone is in their place. This is anime. You wouldn’t like it if you weren’t shriveling up inside with more complexes than were capable of being diagnosed.
“It’s like the Catholic Church. they’re definitely not saying “hey, priests, go have fun with those altar boys,” but a few priests have done so anyhow.”
Unfortunately, someone has already shown how any metaphor can be shoehorned into things people say when said statement is open for such abuse (as Key’s statement was) in jest. You took the concept and ran with it seriously.
What are these “issues” and what does it have to do with the quality of the writing on ANN?
Again, I’ve been on many forums besides ANN, and I do not think I could call it something that stands out when compared to other boards. Something like 4chan does, but not even for being idiotic, but for being so vile.
There are idiots, the ignorant and uninformed on ANN, but I just imagine that these are young people.
They aren’t hypocrites. As a company, ANN does not support fansubs. The individual employees are free to do as you wish, just as any employee of any company is free to do whatever illegal activity they want outside of the office.
