Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Hurr, panty-shots already? There’s goes my notion of this being a perfectly decent show that doesn’t need to pander to fanservice to sell.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Man, I can’t wait till she shows her real colors. It would interesting to hear too, if for the choice of seiyuu. I don’t think I’ve heard Hayamin do yandere properly.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Ugh… you rich little…! She’s that loaded that she can afford the full set of DVD’s for a show she claims to hate.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh man, this was random as fuck. Also, POP eroge. Heh.

And this is the best Kirino moment of an episode that is full of Kirino moments..

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Look at that moé-face! God, I shudder to think what would happen if she had a younger sister.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Hurr lol, Manami.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Hey sister, I’m okay with you playing that shit, but PLEASE, don’t drool over it in public.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Aww… they sure are getting along well.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Uh-oh. Kyousuke comes back to ticking bomb.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh lol what? He’s already poisoned by eroge terms that fast?!

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Um, dude, I thought you weren’t in to that shit.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh lol, the Taiko anger-management release method.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Another bitch-dere moment.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Yeah.. yeah, rub it in.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Making fun of her hobbies aside, Kyousuke gets down to defending it for his imouto anyways.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh dammnit, why didn’t they show this last week! Kuroneko smiling HNNNNNNGGGGGHHHH

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Yeah, having a weird hobby is actually more reassuring when you consider how perfect she is normally!

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

I shudder to think that her eye color is -actually- natural. All along I thought she wore colored contacts or something!

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Hey dude, your dad’s right you know.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

I mean, yeah, it’s definitely rated R-18 there. Your sister is like, 5 years away from legally having that shit.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh great, another wtf-eroge moment? What the heck?

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh boy, the “I’m a horny teenager who can’t get it off normally anymore!” defense.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Shit… when he puts it that way, he sure makes Kyousuke sound like a fucking pervert.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

“Got a problem?” HOLY SHIT, dude, your father can lock you up for that man!

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t help laughing out loud when he said that. Now that is one of the problems with Yuuichi Nakamura, whenever he shouts that way, I start laughing for some reason.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Seriously, what kind of cheesy ass otaku lines are you making my Alto-hime say!

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Well… if only he knew what this was going to lead to.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Ah well, in any case, I guess it solved the situation temporarily somewhat.

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Oh dearie me…

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai

Y’know, they should’ve put some exclamation marks for emphasis here. Oh well.

While I can’t deny this episode was entertaining (33 screencaps don’t lie) I have to say that this probably isn’t a very great third episode, much less the “greatest third episodes of all time! OF ALL TIME!”

The first half was pretty fun and all, but the second half with the drama of Kirino’s little secret being found out by Policeman Dad was absolved in such a short time, it just felt contrived. Not to mention that it also involved a Yuuichi Nakamura shoutfest. The guy’s good at snarky lines and bishie charms, but he sure can’t shout proper enough to be taken seriously by me. But really, I think it’s also the fault of the dialogue a bit. They’re already peppering Kyousuke’s with eroge references despite how “normal” he claims to be and there was even that wtf-choices moment. Hell, he’s pretty much admitting to doing something extremely disturbing and Dad just lets him off with a punch which magically absolves everything.

But eh, this was also part of the pre-requisite drama for the story, so I guess they have to get it out of the way first quickly. I mean, we still have the “friends finding out” drama to do and there’s also all the otaku-pandering thematic episodes to consider (Natsucomi, Fuyucomi, Nakano Broadway, Otome Road, onsen, beach, school field trip, etc. etc. ). And there’s only 1-cour to do all that!

On a side note, the anime is actually eroding my resistance for a wincest ending, if only because how nicely balanced they made Kirino a perfect blend of tsun and imouto. That, and the novels seem to heading that way anyways… sigh.

Well, next week there’s the Natsucomi episode. That should be fun to watch. I wonder how are they going to make it look like it’s safe for little girls dressing up like sluts fashionably to go there.

I’m pretty surprised that they have this turning point in the story early.
Also Manami is great with her “Lay on my lap” bit.

Truth be told, Kyousuke ain’t old enough for R-18 either. Dad seems to have lost count of his son’s age.

“greatest third episodes of all time! OF ALL TIME!”

Yes, I agree with you. This story development makes me “WOW, that fast but still looks normal”. Kyousuke is good brother.

Wincest ending? Hell no, I don’t want this show ruined into wincest. Kiss X Sis OVA is enough. Don’t even want watch the series.

You forget, no one cares about Kyousuke.

BTW, I found the Kyousuke shouting-and-grabbing-father thing a little hard to believe. If this were a real Asian family, dad would’ve laid the beat-down much earlier than when it did.

@Psycho: Yeah that’s what I thought so at first but….

IDK anymore after reading all the novel spoilers and seeing the anime :|

Especially if they decide to emphasize on this aspect of their relationship more in the anime.

@KayDat: Don’t forget his mom knows what all his porn is! I guess as long as he isn’t in to something criminal, they really don’t give a damn about him!

I actually made this comment, but opted not to show my name cause I was worried it might come off as rude for some reason (I remain to be an overly cautious fool).

It’s really good you pointed out the shoutfest, because it is kind of a problem that some anime are using this as way to get past drama without doing much. In all, I’d say that I was happy with the episode getting this initial drama out of the way fast rather than waste a few more episodes as you said.

In the manga adaptation atleast, I think HE DOES get smacked alittle around by his dad when he tries to pull that stuff.

  7. Shin Said,

If I was the father, I would have whooped his ass too.

First off, the dad was completely right, she was playing an R-18 game about knocking up your little sister, and that is just plain wrong. And then this dumbass tries to be a white knight and say that game was his. I would have kicked his sorry ass for playing an eroge about impregnating his little sister on her computer, disown him and then throw him out of the house.

There was NOTHING Alpha about what he did.

People look up to what he did simply because I am certain that they get off to loli porn and want to sniff their sister’s panties. I will pretend that the show ended with the father killing him and the little sister before turning the gun on the mother and himself.

Even animals know imouto love is wrong. Are you lower than animals, Japan?

As entertaining this episode is, I feel obliged to quote Sasahara(btw, yay Genshiken manga 2):
“I can vouch that [those games] are a result of fantasies by people who don’t actually have a younger sister.”

Btw: 33 pics? Kuro, feeling inspired by divine or something?

  15. TroytheSkull Said,

    October 19, 2010 @ 4:15 am

Another way you COULD look at the the whole thing w/ Kyousuke & the Father is that; he knows Kyousuke is lying about the games being his, but was angry at the fact he going so far to go against him even though the Father knows he right. It is really odd the Father would let this all go after Kyousuke saying all that. The punch could just been away to release his anger and I would hit my son to after saying all that even if he was lying.

Anyway, this could just be a another SIMPLE way to look at it.

  17. Mentar Said,

Guys, at the moment, he’s simply PROTECTING Kirino. Nothing more, nothing less. He’s not trying to get in her pants at all. Look at all the folks jumping to conclusions here.

And Shin, what’s this BS about impregnating anyone? That never was part of the anime, and neither the novel. Hysterical much? Stick your fake outrage where the sun don’t shine if you can’t justify it with the story. Not your wacko fantasies.

  18. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    October 19, 2010 @ 5:07 am

@Nestor: Well, it WAS an entertaining episode. I’m still chuckling at Kyousuke’s “confession”.

@Troy: You will never have your Manami ending! And well, that -IS- one way of looking at things, but you obviously aren’t from an Asian family if you think that way! I would be oh-so-happy if I had such understanding parents even if they like to get physical on me.

@Mentar: Haha Mentar, that’s how Shin rolls whenever he tries to deny he likes this shit. Even if he really does love it. He has to justify his pedo street cred first, y’know.

And yeah, at this point he’s still only protecting Kirino, but he sure is going all the extra mile to do so! First of all, his sister is pretty much owning “illegal” goods and something very dangerously sexual as well. And he’s willing to actually take the fall for it instead of her. I think that’s really hard to find generally in real life.

Actually coming to think about it, one thing that the anime might not have gotten off very well is also the item that Dad finds on Kirino. I mean, it’s exactly the same item that Kyousuke found earlier. Besides, I find it hard to imagine that Kirino would have been that careless with the same damn thing again, after the incident with Kyousuke, and the fact she managed to keep her hobby a secret all this while (that closet full of goods doesn’t build itself in a day y’know!). Also didn’t Kyousuke warn her about it? Any light novel readers can clarify on this point for me? The whole drama here would’ve been a bit more logical if Dad only found a normal anime DVD instead of the imouto eroge.

Oh, and didn’t anyone notice how Dad knows what the game was even though he only saw the DVD-ROM of it? Not to mention that it was stuck in the DVD cover of an anime DVD….

  19. Mentar Said,

    October 19, 2010 @ 5:35 am

Oooo, something “illegal” and “very dangerously sexual”. Lol :)

Sorry for sneering, but it’s a simple eroge. And maybe it’s my European background, but porn really isn’t anything dangerous – unless you handle it wrongly. In internet times where everyone can access porn and worse within 10 seconds, placing an artificial ban on it is only counterproductive, exactly BECAUSE it’s forbidden.

Parents should talk to their kids about it around age 14 (Kirino’s age now), and overachiever and proud paid workforce member Kirino would certainly be mature enough to deal with it. (As we know, she isn’t even aroused by the XXX, rather dreamy about the moe-cutesy aspect). The extra hilarious thing is that Japanese are traditional very open in sexual matters, age of consent over there is 13! It’s only been the influence of the puritan Americans who installed the ridiculous laws which even nowadays force censorship mosaics on porn for adults. *lol*

Simple statistics show that the number and severity of sexual crimes rise with the level of repression. So much for the “dangerous” porn…

Finally, their dad didn’t really know all THAT much about the anime. He didn’t have to. It was anime (bad) and R-18 (bad). He’s a police officer and thus knows about the general direction. He didn’t need to know more, straight shooter that he is.

Having only played it recently, I lolled at the unintentional Bioshock reference in Kotakuke’s “mind selection”.

That said, his stand against his father was nothing short of epic, he’s got a real pair of cohones.

I do hope we get to see more of Queen Normality plus anyone consider the possibility of Kirino giving Saori a fashion make-over at some point. Would love to see her sans the glasses & headband.

@Kurogane: Besides just ending that point of the story so they can get to the more fun stuff. That was what I was I thought was going on . The Father doesn’t seem like a person to give up w/o a good reason & man he had a good reason to keep pushing the issue. You are right about me not being Asian and I don’t disagree on what you said at all. Just wanted to point out a another way on what might of happen.

From what I remember of the novels… the DVD was some sort of premium edition of an eroge that she was taking with her in order to get autographed, and it does happen right after he warns her to hide it properly.

I think the whole exchange against Gendo was way more awesome in the novels. Maybe it was just the epic translation of that final chapter of the volume. Maybe I just like reading more, I dunno.

  24. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    October 19, 2010 @ 11:00 am

@Mentar: Yeah I know how hypocritical that sounds, but it’s really dependent on the context here.

First off, their dad is apparently a pretty senior police officer and it would be extremely shameful for him if he found out his daughter was playing R-18 stuff when she’s only 14, much less an incest eroge. It’s not just Tokimeki Memorial, it’s a game where she freely admits to knocking up the younger sister characters. Whether it’s blood-related or not is another academic discussion, but the point is, not only she owns something she shouldn’t even be having in the first place, the content is also implied to be pretty extreme.

As for talking about the birds and the bees, unfortunately that’s where Asian mindsets are totally different. It’s still considered pretty awkward to talk about sex before you hit 18, much less a father discussing it with her daughter. It’s really not the most optimum solution as you get a lot of curious teenagers curious about it and then experimenting too much resulting in undesirable consequences later. Really, it’s not something I support or oppose, but it’s just the way it is.

As for the age of consent thing in Japan, it’s quite a myth now because while the national law says 13, most local laws ( actually raise to 16-18, so that’s really a reason to make fun of Japan’s age of consent anymore. In fact, it’s funny how this myth keeps perpetuating itself by people who think Japan is a hotbed for child sex.

And finally, while I’m all fine with proper sex education for children, but the fact is, it’s still not a common trend in Asian countries yet. We’re still in a transitional period; with the older generation holding on to the conservative values and a younger generation that is emulating the sexual “freedoms” of the West, unfortunately with nary a thought to the consequences later. There are calls for that to be changed and instill responsible and informative sex education syllabuses here in schools, but the fact is, it’s not there yet.

Ugh, I think I’ve really gotten to a TL;DR tangent with the above point. But I just have to say, Asian mindsets are not similar to Western ones and they don’t really change overnight just like that. It’s perfectly acceptable how Dad gets mad over Kirino possessing the eroge, but there’s still some weirder inconsistencies that I’ve pointed out like how Dad knows exactly what is it.

Suffice to say that I think the pacing for the drama development was pretty bad in this episode, and this is one part of the story that I would’ve liked to see given more than just nine minutes.

@FX102A: Suffice to say that Saori INTENTIONALLY dresses up like that. We’ll probably won’t be able to see how she looks like normally in the anime though…

@Athos: Ah, it’s been translated? Guess I’ll go check it out instead of relying on 2 paragraph spoiler summaries, www

The industry is under siege constantly

Every time a minor does something like this there is a chance that someone in the media or political circles will make a big issue out it

If they can somehow link crime to these kind of games, that’s even better for them

Then all it takes is just one overzealous politician to the turn the industry up side down

If you think this won’t happen, please remember what the 18th amendment of the US constitution was all about

If that’s not relevant enough, remember the recent and ongoing eroge moral panic in Japan

Unfortunately, the concept of thought crime still exist nowadays. And until that issue is resolved, some steps have to be taken.

Yes, industry reform is probably needed. You can’t have a double standard about things, but that’s for another topic.

In addition, if Kirino needs someone to take the blame for her, I don’t think she has enough personal responsibility to play these games. Stick with the all ages version.

If this continues, and I think it will, I can see Kirino getting into eroge related troubles again at school and perhaps work. Now, assuming what I’ve seen about the idol industry is true. You can get into serious trouble for just the implication of having a boyfriend, or buying a pack of cigarettes for someone ha ha (White Album). An underage idol playing eroge is a serious blow to her marketable image.

The problem is I can see her brother taking the blow for her again and again and again. This might be cute and hilarious for some. But at the end at the end of the day, I will once again question her sense of personal responsibility.
