Asobi ni Ikuyo! 03

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

“Two?!” Whaddya mean by two? HEY CLARIFY THE UNIT FIRST. HOLY SHIT THE CURIOSITY!!!!!!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Also lol, wearing sukumizu to diplomatic negotiations.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

At least they do have some common sense. Onee-sama squealing was rather moeeee~

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Umm… yeah but.. but.. but… that’s not really the… oh god.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Am I the only one who thinks Manami looks really good in this outfit? Stylish, yet functional. Perfect for someone going on the lam.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Technically, yes. From another planet too!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Hurr durr dog girl Hocchan hurr durr.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Is this some roundabout joke that references the fact Hocchan and Oneesama are voicing in this show? (Hint: they are both in the same club)

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Oh I am pretty sure “take care” meant something more decent but I’ll take this up too!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

My oh my, Kiocchi proves that he’s a man too!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Oh, so that’s what her power is. Damn, I was going for the “instantaneous generation of matter” angle instead. Handy, I guess.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Uh… girls?!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Girls… where are you clothes? (Yes I know it’s censored but my brain has a de-censoring plugin)

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

You know, Futaba-chan, isn’t this a good time to use your powers? Pretty sure you didn’t let the car get that far away.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Man… women. Act nice to them and they think they don’t care about you, then when you accidentally peek at you naked, it’s their fault somehow?! This show is like the reverse Amagami!!

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Well, at least someone still has a a proper grip on things.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Oh fuck yeah, it’s Jack! Man, she’s kinda awesome.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Although her name’s quite a mouthful… does she have some Russian blood too? I mean, there’s “Alexis” in her name and all…

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

DUN DUN DUN DUN…! Another catgirl appears! As if there wasn’t enough already!

Well, Asoiku’s still running hot 3 episodes in to the show. Admittedly it wasn’t as happening as the first two, but for a breathing episode this was fine… plus we got a real dose of T&A as well, albeit extremely censored. Oh gods, why aren’t there uncensored airings of this show? It’s not even half as bad as shit like Queen’s Blade. So exploding boobs are fine but alien cat girl T&A’s are off?

Can’t wait for the next episode, with all the new spanners in the works thrown in this week. Also, /r/ more Inoue-oneesama!

So Japan’s most advanced force is it’s…Customs Office?

I’m probably the only who thinks that the cover girl resembles Poplar :D. Also, apparently this is the same universe where two alien superpowers stage some catfight as a proxy war (http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/51/asobiniikuyo03.jpg)

Aww, and here I thought Futaba’s power is Unlimited Blade Works!

Anyway, I’m torn. On one side, I want them childhood friend types to actually win once. On the other side, I wished that for once Kana-tan would get her man :(( (no, I don’t think Kanade counts, what with that ambiguous ending)

PS: Can you share that plug-in? Is there going to be an uncensored version?

Uncensored version = DVD/Blu-Ray for better sales.

Also, male lead could go DIAF for all I care. This IS a fan service show, so we don’t need him.

@metalsnakezero: It’s actually a bit more ridiculous than cool.

@Nestor: Holy fucking shit, nice catch there. I didn’t spot the both of them at all!

Also, lol, develop your own plug-in. Mine’s a custom job.

@Benigmatica: From what I’ve heard, ALL the stations airing this show are censored versions.

    @Haesslich: What a sexist.

  9. Nestor Said,

@Haesslich: What? And turn this into a yuri show?

My complains against this kind of harem is not that there’s a man in it, but because he’s essentially useless. I bet his good point is the same as most male harem leads: he’s kind/nice/good. That’s it, nothing more.

Look, I get it, girls may date the bad boys but they don’t take them home; they marry the good guys. Doesn’t mean that being kind/nice/good is only their good point. Look at Negi: He’s kind, good hearted, gentlemanly and nice, but he’s also a martial badass as well as being calculative, knowledgeable and smart.

I don’t mean that all male leads must be renaissance men, but could there at least be another virtue besides being nice? It’s impressive how just being nice nabs you three ladies in a swing. At least the Amagami protagonist, nice guy as he is, never gets the attention of more than one girl at a time…

  10. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 1:00 am

    @Benigmatica: I know friend, I know.

@Nestor/Haesslich: Seriously you guys are judging him way too fast. His childhood friend is a CIA agent, his crush is a black-operative with special powers, his teacher is a terrorist organization leader and his uncle sure knows his way around guns and explosive situations. I find it hard to believe he’s going to be useless much.

Look at episode two, he faced down a guy holding a machine gun just to protect Eris. Then, despite knowing it’s an extremely dangerous proposition, he decides to rescue Eris from a fucking military base just to prove to her that not all Earthlings aren’t bad. Hell, good enough for me to not put him in to the useless category yet. It’s just the others are way too overpowered so far.

Of course, the lack of parents around and him living alone also makes things rather suspicious. Not to mention the profound lack of a profile information pop-up from him in this episode where the childhood friend, classmate and teacher each had their profiles shown, listing their biodata and background, but he only got a profile pic instead.

Isn’t it surprising when he’s actually the one housing the Catheans at his house and his profile isn’t shown to Miss Dog?

Well, we’ll see as the show progresses.

  11. Gin Said,

Hey, did you read some of their profiles? Futaba’s Dad is alive and married to…an alien!?! She has a step-sister too! Oh, I can’t wait for the “Meet The Family” episodes.

  12. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

Manami’s dad is a CIA agent too, LOL.

I would have though AT-X would have aired this series uncensored like so many shows before.

  15. Haesslich Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 1:46 am

Nestor/Kurogane: his only job is to get hit/fought over. And unlike Helen of Troy, he isn’t pretty to look at. At least Araragi was entertaining on his own merits, or Tomoki was GAR. This type of colorless generic harem lead is overused. Even his standing up to armed men is pretty generic… and yes, I’d believe he’s nothing special, as the Generic Normal Guy With Harem is standard cliche wish-fulfillment material.

  16. Silver Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 5:42 am

    @ Nestor & Haesslich

Naw, you guys are judging him to fast. How many other leads would take the freaking military base on without hesitation. I say that he seems that way because everyone around him is so up there that he seems pretty useless but if you take him and compare him with many and many other leads, he kicks their arses. Hey, he even have their nice/kind part to him to. So in other words, he’s not generic because if he’s generic, what the hell are we and the many other more useless male leads? Useless banana shit slugs?

  17. Haesslich Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 7:06 am

Silver: Lots – they’re all too stupid to realize that they could get killed, and admit as such afterwards. Plus, if he didn’t… there’d be no story. Like I said, it’s “Standard Generic Normal Guy with Harem Wish Fulfillment” type – you’d LIKE to think that you’d literally charge Hell with a bucket of water to ‘get your girl back’… but most guys don’t have the guts to even face a cop staring them in the face. Which is why they make Generic Harem Guy do it.

Plus, they’ve had FOUR episodes to show if he’s special… and so far, nada. That’s pretty much the definition of Standard Generic Normal Guy with Harem right there – anyone else who’s different usually shows it by the end of Ep 2, or has it hinted at somewhere beyond the fact girls like him (Haruo from Magikano being the possessor of super-mage DNA, Shirou with his Magic Circuits and Tracing ability, Shiki being super-killer-Nanaya, Araragi managing to avoid Death by Senjougahara all happened in the first two or three episodes of their series).

Seriously – he’s nothing special. Tomoki did more than this. Fuck, MIZUHO did more than this just by dressing up as a girl, charming the hell out of other girls, then confronting a ghost after comforting ‘her’ underclassmen.

….And this is why people loved Seitokai no Ichizon so, so much: Key-kun had balls from the start. Unfortunately, most harem leads don’t.

This doesn’t seem like stopping on its momentum of stupidity/hilarity. I hope it doesn’t run out of ideas soon…………

  20. Nestor Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 11:03 am

I’m not saying that a protagonist must have super secret identity or something, I just wish the male lead has more traits than “mr. nice guy”. Take Kyon: he respond to the absurdity of his life with deadpan snarks and lampshade hangings. Shirou and Araragi? They’re self-sacrificing to the point of absurdity. Key-kun? Harem Seeker. Negi? Even ignoring his magic background, he’s hardworking and dilligent. Heck, even Keitaro is at least memorable as the universe’ butt monkey.

Kio? Not so much. If this keeps up, by the end of the series most of us probably won’t even remember his name, just “asobi main lead”…

  21. Skribulous Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 12:29 pm

    @Kurogane

Sadly, I have to side with the majority here. The only way Kio would redeem himself in my eyes would be if it turns out he’s this series equivalent of Jeremy Feeple. Or Tenchi Masaki.

  22. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 1:32 pm

@Skribulous: I’m just saying it’s too early judge him. Keitaro was a just a moving punching bag for Naru for over 7 volumes of Love Hina… then he became GAR enough to look unfazed by a car crash.

It’s just been THREE episodes so far, that is mostly covering the basic premise of the story. Still too early to already condemn him as a useless harem lead.

  23. Haesslich Said,

    July 29, 2010 @ 2:04 pm

We’re already a quarter of the way through the run, and I can’t remember his name, he’s so bland and generic. Guys in SKIRTS are less bland than he, and better harem leads. Haruo was disgustingly stupid and bland, but had more personality and a better reason to be fought over.

We’re running out of episodes here.

MANAMI’S OUTFIT IS VERY ATTRACTIVE AND HOT. I LOVE HER STYLE : Db Aoi is just really cute summer wear and simple but also attractive, but Manami’s just stands out so much more; + that Haruka Tomatsu voice and thus she is my favourite.

  25. Vallen Chaos Valiant Said,

Seriously, this anti-Kio sentiment really has to stop. Kio’s trait is that he keeps a cool head when lesser male leads would have panicked. He doesn’t need to have superpowers, or being irresponsibly horny, to be relevant. He is a reasonable representation of humanity, a person you wouldn’t be embarrassed to introduce to an alien civilisation representative.

Kio does what he has to do and has a brain. That’s more than many harem leads.

  29. Haesslich Said,

Vallen: Um… I don’t think so. There’s a LOT of male leads who keep cool heads – usually because they’re either too stupid, or because they’re wish fulfillment characters, as Kio obviously is. The girls could’ve been speaking directly to the camera, and we wouldn’t really see a difference in the story.

Every trait you’ve named is generic – you could replace him with a Ken doll and the story wouldn’t change; that’s how little impact he has. And people told me that Haruhi S2 at Episode 3 wasn’t representative of the whole series either… which it was. For seven more episodes.

  30. Haesslich Said,

And as I noted before, we’re already 3 eps into a thirteen-ep run and nothing of importance has been shown with Kio. If Episode 4 continues the trend.. well, at least Crysis-tan’s pretty. Pity about that waste of screentime that Kio represents.

“There’s a LOT of male leads who keep cool heads – usually because they’re either too stupid, or because they’re wish fulfillment characters, as Kio obviously is. ”

And how would giving Kio superpowers or making him “special” any less “wish fulfilment”? If he can shoot laserbeams from his eyes, would that somehow make the show better? I just don’t get what you are asking for.

Kio is a capable teenager. That’s all he needs to be.

On that note, this show spends a lot of time dedicated to promoting Okinawa as a tourism destination. Hence all the friendly locals, sunshine, and great food.

  35. Haesslich Said,

Vallen: So Episode 4 proves your ‘point’… how? And, had you READ any posts beyond the “he’s boring” keywords, you’ll notice that it’s been repeated time and again that it’s not being superpowered or a mage or anything else that’d make him less boring – it’s just that he be someone whose role couldn’t be easily replaced by an inanimate object or generic eroge protagonist (who is transparent and faceless to allow the player to imagine himself in that position).

To quote Nestor: “My complains against this kind of harem is not that there’s a man in it, but because he’s essentially useless. I bet his good point is the same as most male harem leads: he’s kind/nice/good. That’s it, nothing more.

I don’t mean that all male leads must be renaissance men, but could there at least be another virtue besides being nice? It’s impressive how just being nice nabs you three ladies in a swing. At least the Amagami protagonist, nice guy as he is, never gets the attention of more than one girl at a time…”

To quote myself properly, since you apparently didn’t read my post save to copy&paste the only part which you thought you could respond to without looking like a moron: “Vallen: Um… I don’t think so. There’s a LOT of male leads who keep cool heads – usually because they’re either too stupid, or because they’re wish fulfillment characters, as Kio obviously is. The girls could’ve been speaking directly to the camera, and we wouldn’t really see a difference in the story.

As I said – he needs to be more than nice and otherwise unremarkable. We are now over a third of the way through the show (Episode 4) and he’s been nothing but nice, and the girls could have been talking directly to the camera as if this had been an h-game and we wouldn’t have seen any real difference in the story or how it’s unfolded.

He does not need to be Superman or Negi Springfield – but he needs to have a ‘hook’. Even that idiot in Amagami SS has one – he’s nice, but he’s also trying to attract a girl and interacting with her in a way which is actually almost entertaining to watch.

Ugghhhh Manami is nice T/A and all, but I really don’t think I can handle another Tsundere jealous third wheel character that will always magically show up just in time to cockblock “I want you, I don’t want you… right now, and I don’t want anyone else to have you until I make up my mind so I’ll just cocka le blocka you for 13 episodes”. Do people actually like these types of characters?
