Negima! 290

Negima!

Fate-only chapter.

Cute, but I have to say Akamatsu’s story-telling is getting a bit uninspired over the last 4-5 chapters or so. Oh well, at this chapter had Tsukuyomi providing her own brand of fun, though she’s still best when lusting for Setsuna in her yandere-ish way.

Hoping the next chapter will be a bit more productive.

If you found THIS chapter slow, then the next one put you in despair.

    I disagree with you.

This chapter was very entertaining for me and I think, it fleshed Fate and Tsukiyomi a little more out… Also, it was nice to see, that the fight against Rakan wasn´t without any effects for Fate.

Also, several new abilities for the bad guys were introduced: Tsukiyomi can use Motoko´s technique, too, and Fates power is confirmed as earth manipulation. However, his new steel swords seems to be a Shout Out to BlazBlue´s V-13. Considering Akamatsu likes to quote video games. I don´t think this is conindence.

    @ Maedhros

I saw the spoiler and I don´t think, it´s too bad… Negi seems to become a male Nanoha. XDD

So “dolls” from the magic world don’t bleed when they lose an arm or leg?

Did you see Fate slice off Tsukuyomi’s hair? Wasn’t expecting it, but yes, she is best when she’s yandere-yuri lusting Setsuna ;D

Only a bit uninspired? This arc is twize as long and only half as good as the festival arc.

Probably the most uninteresting chapter in a while. Fortunately, if the spoilers are correct, the next one will be probably be better. Magic Erebea problem should be solved and the new girls are already practicing with their artifacts (Yuuna’s right hand gun somewhat reminds me of Hellsing)…

@Hurin: Personal taste I guess. I still prefer the Mundus Magicus arc for several reasons:
    1. Badass Teen!Negi&Kota
    2. Negi vs Rakan
    3. Ariadne Knight Yue
    4. the Nagi/Arika arc
    5. (most importantly) no time travel

I like how the MH translator notes for this chapter went something like “TN: creepy tsukuyomi alert”

    I greatly appreciated that.

I didn’t say slow and I also didn’t say I hated it, it was okay BUT rather uninspired in the way that it didn’t really blow my socks off or anything like the time during Negi vs Rakan or during the Ball. In fact, the last few chapters have been rather the same for me… so yeah.

It was admitedly interesting to see Fate’s other abilities and Tsukoyomi getting a bit of screentime, but it sure didn’t really lead to much in the end other than solidifying the Foe Yay Fate has for Negi and vice versa.

Well, we’ll see what 291 has in store for us.

@Anise: Nice TL note but pretty redundant, Tsukoyomi’s default adjective is creepy already!

@DocAstaroth: When I first read this line, I’ve only seen the raw scans so I don’t get it, but now… Dammit, Akamatsu, don’t tell me it’s because of Fate’s “sad eyes”?

@Nestor: Really? *This* is the most uninteresting chapter in a while? I’ll take a cool Tsukuyomi vs. Fate fight chapter over the last couple Pactio ones any day. Next chapter looks like it’s going to have some good action as well.

Well, for me, a fight is only interesting when there are something at stake. Tsukuyomi vs. Fate fells more like a teasing/bullying. And the foe yay irks me off (I know it’s gonna get worse, please don’t remind me)

This chapter was exciting for me. The conversation between Tsukuyomi and Fate reveals there is a boss more powerful than Fate. Fate’s fight with Rakan had some kind of effect on him. The kindness Fate showed toward his female lackeys was very touching. In all, this chapter is moving beyond Negi giving pactio kisses to girls.

For me, this chapter do reveal that Fate’s female lackeys (partner) are not the type of evil people at all. Instead it show that they are in fact good in nature just their objective is not the same as the Mahora schoolgirls’ objective as they had face a lot of wars’ effect which is quite depressing for them just like how Chao had experience it in her timeline which is 100 years ahead of the current time.

Personally I’ve thought that his storytelling has been lagging for a while. I haven’t really been excited about a new chapter of MSN for a long time. Which is sad, because I enjoyed reading it so much while I was still working my way through the archives on onemanga.

It’s been lagging since the training arc started which is unusual for Akamatsu since he usually skips over the details and flashbacks or explains it later on. Wonder if he’s planning on something big that makes the training arc worth it. Also, anyone else think that Tsukuyomi looks better with short hair?

  17. MegamiMiko Said,

    June 5, 2010 @ 2:48 am

Well in any case it looks like the training arc should be pretty much finished after 291, I’m sure things will get really good once the final part of the Magic World arc begins.

    I read the new chapter.

I suggest, you can call the title of your next entry “Magical Boy Magister Negi” or something like that…

I wonder, when the first people will call Negi “the Black Devil”.
