Angel Beats! 07

Angel Beats!

If she had lived, she would be a first-class yandere imouto

Otonashi’s memories are finally unlocked thanks to the Animus Naoi’s hypnotism skills. Turns out he used to have this sickly cute little sister and he was directionless in life until one day, he killed her by taking her out for a Christmas walk. From then on, the loss and guilt made him decide to dedicate his life to saving others like her but he died on a train crash before he managed to do anything proper.

Angel Beats!

Very homo.

Oh, forgot to mention, but Naoi didn’t disappear. Instead he’s with the SSS now (oh the irony) and generally making BL overtures to Otonashi, like above.

Angel Beats!

Gardener Kanade is so cute. This shot of Tenshi somehow invokes a weird feeling of nostalgia for me.

Second half of the episode focuses on Operation Monster Stream; that is, going to the river and fish for food. Twist is… the river has a “god” living in it, which kinda wrecks havoc when it gets mad after people start fishing in it. Thankfully, Otonashi had the good sense of dragging Kanade along….

Angel Beats!

Yes, I’m pretty interested in Tenshi’s cup size as well.

Angel Beats!

Thanks to her (mainly), the guys managed to fish it up so I guess they won’t be worrying about the river anymore for the time being. Of course, it’s too big and too much for just the few of them, so they decide to cook everything and have a free-for-all fish stew buffet in the school field, inviting pretty much everyone to come eat it up. At least they don’t have to eat only fish for the next few years of their life, haha.

Of course, the episode ends with a twist, as Tenshi fans rejoice at learning there’s double of her to go around now!

Angel Beats!

Temporarily naming them Gold Tenshi and Red Tenshi (due to their eye color).

Interestingly enough, Red Tenshi was the one who cut up the giant catfish earlier, as it seems that summoning Red Tenshi is one of Kanade’s skills. So it remains to be seen that if Red Tenshi is another individual or is Gold Tenshi a terrific actress.

Or, it could be as Guncannon says, Yuri’s setting them all up by herself. Hmmmm…..

The faces looked reeaally weird in this episode.

Kuro, I am disgust. No wait, I wanna know too!

Whoaaah I didn’t even catch that it was Red Tenshi cutting up the catfish. At least now I know where she came from.

I thought Otonashi was asking her to measure him.

Also, multiple Tenshi clones means there’s more to love, so…

I agree with not eating fish for a long period of time…HAHAHAH!

Anyways, It’s creepy to see your Clones walking around(unless, it’s someone else you like) the corner and got greet them everyday(by shooting of fighting them).

anyways, Got to wish that Tenshi will be on good hands now.

When Otonashi saw Tenshi in the garden, did he saw: A) a lovely girl (with a nice hat) amidst a beautiful scenery, or B) a reminder of his sister?

Aw shucks, I’ve wished the other Tenshi would be the shy, easily embarrassed type a la Disappearance’s Nagato. Ah well, the more the better :)

  6. K_S_ Said,

To me, it looked as if Tenshi’s Delay malfunctioned due to an unstable mind of Tenshi, resulting in creating a second body

eerr, what this caption means? I know roughly what yandere means
    but how is this related?

anyway, nice ep reviews, although i believe the preview sounds like Tachibana is in trouble and plenty of KanadeXYuzuru moments this week.

  8. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    May 16, 2010 @ 2:32 am

@doki doki: check her seiyuu. But on hindsight, since this is Key, she would turn out to be a baker’s daughter or something.

  9. butterfli Said,

    May 16, 2010 @ 3:01 am

I was expecting Yuri to have lied about Tenshi attacking her and then framing Tenshi for something she didn’t do thus turning everyone against her (again). It would’ve been good drama++. Oh well. Tenshi x 2 is fine too.

  10. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    May 16, 2010 @ 3:12 am

That would be impossible because Kanade was with the whole gang the whole time helping them prepare and serve the fish. She has the perfect alibi and not even Yurippe can overturn that.

  11. Silver Said,

    May 16, 2010 @ 3:17 am

Actually, I don’t think Otonashi exactly killed her. Her condition was getting worse and worse so he probably already felt that she might not last much longer and took her out as a gift of sort if you understand what I meant.

  12. Xellos-_^ Said,

    May 16, 2010 @ 3:31 am

besides that Kanade has a solid alibi it would not fit the point of the story. This is the story of a group people rebelling against over what they think are are unfair pointless deaths not a school harem/comendy.

looks like otonashi’s mental image of a tenshi clone army a few eps back is starting to become real, one copy at a time.

Aww…it’s the same manga volume again…I already read it a gazillion times…but no matter…afterall it’s my brother who brought it for me…so…ARIGATOU ONII-CHAN! ARIGATOU ONII-CHAN! ARIGATOU ONII-CHAN!

You know, the perfect present for Emotonashi would be to record a MP3 of Hatsune saying thank you over and over again, then we will just play it on loop.

Having seen Stephen Chow’s movie CJ7, I was half-expecting Otonashi to have an accident at the construction site. Death by trail derail is a bit…uhh..

Well, at least we got to know his given name, and now Gold Tenshi and him are on first name basis. Not bad I’ll say. I was also kind of expecting them to be serving those fish with some of Kanade’s favourite Mapo Tofu. Chinese Restaurants should use her image as a promotional tool for Mapo Tofu dammit, it rocks!

I can’t help but chuckle at the “Just how big is it?” Oh Kuro…you and your ability to pick up the strangest of things…

Btw…where are my Negima manga coverage!? RAGGGGEEEEE! Been waiting for your page-by-page coverage of the last two chapters for some time now (286,287). Still waiting for that darn chapter 288 to be released…miss the good times when AQS was still active…come on now White Wings!

  15. Shiro Said,

Gold and Red huh… wonder if it has anything to do with that skill called harmonics that was shown when they sneak into kanade’s room in episode 3

  16. Grimmer Said,

Still, in a situation like that, you’re bound to end up blaming yourself.
In itself I find it quite amazing that he didn’t turn emo for a couple of episodes… well, I suppose no one would want that to happen, but it’d be understandable if it did…
He just realized his entire existence turned out void so far and after a minor breakdown he’s like ‘meh, whatever, i’ve got this sweet afterlife now’.

My sole irritation: the whole concept of their group rebelling against god because life sucked big time is so narrow-minded one can’t help but wonder if their brains didn’t make it into the afterlife. Personally I would totally buy it if they were all like: “let’s see…we can get anything we want by playing with dirt and imagining shit…we’re immortal…and no one really seems to enforce anything on us…Yehhhh…I’m not going anywhere mate…”

This has only occurred to me, but maybe Tenshi is not Yuki’s expy; she’s Yuki (incredible strength with a small body, soft-spoken, emotionless, techno-like theme) + Ryoko (long hairs, knife nut, has dangerous side-personality) instead!

“So it remains to be seen that if Red Tenshi is another individual or is Gold Tenshi a terrific actress. ”

@Nya~n: Glad to see I’m not the only one that has noticed it. GEE FORESHADOWING HUH.

@Chris: Haven’t been following much of the manga the past month or so. Also pretty hard to find good scans of it, y’know. Also that cap pretty much wrote its own caption ever since I watched it raw. The subs just sweetened things a bit :).

@Phuong: Who do you think I am? Omni or something?! I only focus on the important parts! Like Otonashi perfectly taking advantage of the situation to glomp Kanade.

@Donger: Yes, if he lost one eye and had an imouto, Okazaki would be a dead ringer for Otonashi as well. LOL MAEDA PROTAGONISTS.

@T.K.: I just finished Assassin’s Creed 2 here, ha ha.

    @Wrathkal: DO EET!!

Yui likes Hinata a lot, I wonder if he realize it. From a certain reality show Yui has an impersonator.

I cried……’s been a while since Key’s AIR (and the demise of Nagisa although in the end it looks like it never happened at all).

Air mixed with Kanon that intertwined with Clannad = that scene

    EVA is homo…….

By this 7th episode I hereby say that Yurippe is Haruhi…….. Her rejection to disappear as well the goal of beating the real Tenshi made the second Tenshi as she has no idea how Tenshi looks like she replicates Tachibana Kanade. Tachibana Kanade’s powers are also from Yurippe to make her Tenshi-like.

@Hikari: Blame Maeda for being uncreative.

@Wrathkal: Not as good as I hoped, maybe the caption should be “If you’re not sure, just hug harder.”

  35. Wrathkal Said,

Just noticed: The last time Yuri was seen before being attacked by Red Tenshi was when everyone went to help Tenshi drawing that fish out. (And back there her behaviour was kinda suspiscous.) Later when everyone lined up before the caught fish she was missing for some reason.

Btw: Next week we’ll have Yuri turning Meganekko:

“To me, it looked as if Tenshi’s Delay malfunctioned due to an unstable mind of Tenshi, resulting in creating a second body”

I actually think it’s from that computer hack episode, when they saw an ability called Harmony, where it looked like Tenshi had been split in two. Also, interesting to note, Tenshi’s real name, Kanade, means to play a melody. Just pointing that out. Basically, what Johnson Bubbles said.
