Bakavangelion 08

If there ever was an award for “Most Desperate Attempt to Parody Eva for Content”, BakaTest 08 would win it hands-down. I just found the whole thing extremely contrived. It wasn’t even really that funny either.

But well, at least it was made up with this…

BakaTest

And this….

BakaTest

And this….

BakaTest

And especially this….

BakaTest

Mmm… adult Shouko is extremely delicious.

Also, Muttsurini’s awesomeness is second only to Hideyoshi.

BakaTest

Don’t we all wish that had actually happened?! Heh.

Who cares about Hideyoshi, it seems this show is trying to force us to worship this guy as a sexy goddess *throws up*.

I found the Eva thing hilarious XD Especially when they fail and cause “instrumentality”.

Shouko, Morrigan cosplay. And did Shin sub that first screenshot, since he ‘converted’ to Shintoism despite Hideyoshi not being a miko?

To tell you the truth, I never found this series funny, just terribly predictable. The occasional fanservice is fun, sure, but nothing that can’t be found elsewhere. It feels as if it is trying hard to be the new Seto no Hanayome, but doesn’t quite get there.

@The Hordesman: How the hell are you comparing this to SetoHana? SetoHana was way more awesome than this. Also, no traps.

Now that is a lens. But he is way, way too close to get a good shot with that thing.

You know I think I might have that lens model, for the amount it costs it must have such a feature!

SetoHana was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the first ep, probably because the comedic style is similar, though better executed better in the case of Seto. And Seto did have traps… of questionable qualities (which I remember too well for my own good).

The first thing that went through my mind on the first episode was “is this being done by shaft ?”
Not even close to the awesomeness of Seto.

I can understand the comparisons to a weaker SnH; the brand of humor is similar enough though sorely lacking in groin jackhammery.

Point in Baka to Test’s favor: No Haruko Momoi. Oh my god does her voice make me want to stab my face off. Also, I find Himeji to be adorable when she’s not being forced to play the role of Walking Tits. No character in SnH comes across like that, but they’re more generally “awesome”, a trait only Shouko and Mussolini can claim in this show.

Everything else though, remains in SnH’s favor, especially since this show’s Iron Man does not come close to comparing to the Terminator. Man, do I miss that guy.

Dear god, I missed the Terminator. Everytime he appears, I laugh myself to death.

    wasn’t Mussolini the Italian facist?

Besides, SnH is nowhere near BakaTest. While the former relies solely on slapstick humor, the latter has more diversity in its humor.

I will keep calling him Mussolini, it’s clearly where “Muttsurini” came from and much less awkward to type; it’s also good to know that 65 years after the fact, it’s okay to make jokes like that again.

I don’t think it’s as far off from SnH as you think Kurogane. I think the main reason is, as Mia said, the lack of out and out slapstick humor by anyone other than Shouko. It’s not as comically violent (remember season 1 of Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro, that sh*t was awesome), and that’s part of _why_ I feel it’s not as good as SnH. The characters were better in SnH and the humor was more absurd, but this is probably the closest thing to it I’ve seen.

It’s still very, very funny and barring a total meltdown (like it turns into Omamari Himari or Ladies vs Butlers with the fanservice levels), it’ll end up as one of my ten favorite shows ever, if not top five.

Shin would go broke buying pictures of Hideyoshi off Muttsurini.

@Anise: Well, yeah, to me it’s kinda like saying apples and oranges are the same things because they’re both fruits. SetoHana was pretty much situational comedy, BakaTest is more towards parody.

I think I like Bakatest better. The cast is more balanced and I;m not really a huge fan of the “Oops, I got engaged!” storyline. Ranma 1/2 has yet to be topped.
