Dropping Omamori Himari

You know how in eroge there’s options to turn off voice for certain characters? Including the male protagonist if they actually voiced him? Yeah. I need that desperately. Too bad you can’t do that for anime, derp.

In other words, I’m officially dropping the shitpile that is Omamori Himari. Why? BECAUSE YUUTO FUCKING REMINDS ME OF MAKOTO EVERY FUCKING TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH.

Really. Why couldn’t they have chosen someone more generic or less annoying. I just might be able to persevere through the show if they did. Add to the fact everything about the show screams “low-quality generic fanservice crap” and how much they cheapened Matra Milan’s art style… I don’t think I will actually be able to watch the show at all, but I guess Yuuto’s the final nail in the coffin.

    HA HA.
Man that was my first impression on him too. “School Days is over Makoto, you’re supposed to be dead.”
Oh well, the show is fucking terrible in pretty much every aspect aside from hot Koshimizu Ami so I can’t really blame you.

The voices, character designs and now even the pacing is really a big turn off for me.

The voices, Yuuto = Makoto. That’s one point, but his voice is too deep.
As for Ami Koshimizu, she just doesn’t make a good Himari for me, her voice lacks the softness in the teasing character, which makes another Kallen basically. Also, again like Yuuto, his voice is too deep.

My suggestion for a good Himari is Harumi Sakurai or Yuka Saitou (the one that played Chizuru in Seitokai no Ichizon)

Kei Shindou’s performance as Shizuku was good but her “nano” is just awkward.
Lizlet and Kuesu from the song, sounds ok. But reserving last judgment when I see them in their roles.

The manga designs >>>>>>>>>> this character design. What the heck did they do with Rinko?! Also, Himari is more sexier in the manga.

To me, Omamori Himari is just one of those manga which is NOT ready for an adaptation yet.

well the story is line is nice and interesting in manga , but izzit too earlier to give out hope juz because the voice of yuuto is makoto frm school days.as u all know school days is juz one crap anime but it doesnt mean that the person who had same voice in this anime make into crap. give a grip . there is always new for something. the voice in makoto maybe bad but in this anime ‘might’ be some differences. too earlier to judge a book by its cover right ^^

I’m a huge fan of Matra Milan’s art, so seeing the anime mess it up is disappointing. I mean seriously, these are the same characters right?

I actually never noticed, to be honest I can never really identify a VA just by hearing him / her. Seeing as this show is one of my “pure silly enjoyment, minimal story” shows this season, I’ll probably see this through till the end. With the Manga due out in English in a few months time, if I like the show or it leaves me wanting more, I can really on that.

Well, i just checked the art from the manga, and i can say that i wasn’t expecting that. Too different.
Either way, even though i do not really have a problem with the change of the art, that voice actor of the main protagonist was a pretty much epic fail. I can’t really help but remembering Makoto too.. :S

Exactly like Intent said above I saw the first 10 mins of the first episode and immediately alt+f4. The difference in art as you guys said sux as in its not just different its much worse than the manga. Plus almost all the girls gained a few cup sizes. This happens often I know but this show had nothing going for it really.

    Needs Mako-chan to replace him.

lol, just because zechs or whatever they’re called are doing a crap job doesn’t mean its hard to adapt Himari lol.

Aww, that’s too bad. Of course the art is worse than the manga but it’s still fun in it’s own way. I guess it’s good thing I don’t remember who MAKOTO is or even want to remember who he is so I don’t see the resemblance.

I haven’t read the manga nor watched School Dyas yet( i will someday ,kinda hard to have patience already knowing the ending >_>) so i can stand the generic fanservise and i’m watching basically for hot Koshimizu Ami

As a huge fan of Matra Milan… I think I will try to prevail… though I’m pretty much agree with Kurogane… but I’m sure Matra Milan would hope for some support for his first anime.

Thank god Takeshi Kusao isn’t voicing Yuuto- Wait, that actually would be a good thing. IF YUUTO DIDN’T SUCK SO BAD.

As for Himari, I would have loved it if she was voiced by Satsuki Yukino, but Ami Koshimizu isn’t well-fitted for this character.

I think Kurogane was right to drop this anime. It does NOT do the manga justice. It’s nothing more than your average harem anime; compare it to Rosario+Vampire if you have to.

  20. Wally Said,

One thing I liked about Yuuto was he was the rare version of harem lead that eventually grew respectable and had somewhat of a spine. In the manga, at least. It seems whenever they do an anime adaptation of that sort of lead, the first thing they do is totally get rid of the spine and thus any individuality he had.

I heard the theory once that they do this so that the male lead is ‘non-threatening’ to the audience, and thus the only purpose of the male lead is to illicit interesting reactions out of the haremettes.

  21. bakaranger Said,

    January 16, 2010 @ 10:40 am

I can’t even remember what the lead of School Days sounded like. By the 2nd episode when it was obviously a train wreck about to happen, I bailed on it.. And thus preserving the career of one male VA, it seems, based on the reaction here.

  22. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

Actually I don’t hate Daisuke Hirakawa per se, but blame his bad luck for voicing Makoto and using that voice again for this show. I quite liked him in Itazura no Kiss as Irie Naoki. He’s perfect for those roles.
