Dance of the Vampire Bund 02 (or 01)

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Oh look, it’s Hidamari Bund!

So my expectations (of it being “original”) have come true! Shinbo(kastel) has pretty much rewrote the setup of DitVB and introducing the story in a radically different way.

For instance, Akira has amnesia and doesn’t remember the past 16 years of his life thanks to some accident off-screen. Right.

And the enemies have pretty much become “monster of the week” types. We actually went from a chameleon last week to a spider this week. I will expecting be something with long appendages next week or soon enough just so SHAFT can draw some tentacle porn.

They did keep the “lotion” scene, but it’s pretty LOL here. Tell me, what would justify Mina not looking stupid by asking Akira to slather lotion on her while both are being chased by an AH-64 Apache in the city. Reeks of forced fanservice. Also more like, WHY DID YOU MAKE MINA LOOK LIKE SHE’S STALKING AKIRA.

Man, I hate it when people try adapt by doing original shit and mess it up even more badly than the original work is. Of course, I am biased and all since I read the manga so I guess people fresh to this would find it more interesting since it has loli nipples and shit.

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Yes, it really has loli nipples.

I completely agree with the adaption failure comment >_>

I love the original and how the story was unveiled and built up. This is just blah… I suppose you could say it’s Shaft being Shaft being Shinbo, but seriously? The adaptation of Bakemonogatari was much more faithful than this was ~_~

I don’t even know if I want to keep watching this stuff if they’re not going to actually dive into the manga plot, or at least make it more enjoyable and original.

Will watch raw later. So far it looks like I was right about the first episode setting the direction for the story, and instead of trying to faithfully adapt or remove loli fanservice, they upped the latter and got rid of the interesting bits (Mina being the ruthless and smart queen bitch, no explanation of why Akira was so devoted to Mina-watching duty as amnesia stole the reason, no political wrangling as they replaced it with Rosario+Vampire ‘monster of the week’ plot.

And people called me a moron for thinking that the start of the show wasn’t a strong hint for the direction of the story of the anime. So, how was last week supposed to be like Ep 0 of Haruhi again, with the story suddenly gaining quality and less loli with ep 2?

Shaft has to be one of the most inconsistent studios ever, having one of the best shows of 2009 to… this.

Monster of the week? What is this, Kamen Rider Chibi-Kiva?

isn’t the guy who does the series composition for this show the same guy to helped make the script for Gundam Seed and Code Geass? Just wondering…

Spider enemy in the first few episodes? Sounds like a Kamen Rider cliché.

Seriously? We’re using F****** amnesia as the main plot device here? And we had to watch 10 minutes of a school scene that went nowhere? For god’s sake, why take strong source material, and turn it into crap?

Hell, I was more worried they’d pull that crap with Himari, and instead this is the show that I have to abandon?

    Damnit!

orange: Yes.. it’s him. And Shino’s in here somewhere too, which completes the unholy combination. It looks like Hidamari got all the good writers/adapters this season.

Yeah the show is pretty meh. I’ve only read about 6~7 chapters of the manga before dropping it. Looks like I’ll be dropping this too.

Off topic but, no comments on BakaTest ep 2?

I’m still not quite at the point of abandoning this show just yet. I give every show I follow a 5 episode trial period. This worked for me with Ga-Rei Zero because, after 2 episodes I was really ready to give that up and yet somehow I was turned around by 5. But these next three episodes…. this show is stumbling headlong into massively wasted potential territory, even with the mangaka firmly onboard and giving Shaft and Shinbo the big thumbs up…. You might as well rename this show Dance On The Vampire’s Grave….

Well, at least the main plot of the story starting in episode 2 stay faithfully from the manga. The only difference is the sub-plot of the story including the setting.

This is also just episode 2 only.

Erm, I didn’t get it? She was superpowerful in the first episode. I mean, a guy died just because she told him to. And now in this episode she lost all that wicked aura and got totally beaten up? She seemed like a totally different person. Wtf was that about?

I’m hating the fact that vampires are turning into animals. Why can’t they just be vampires? It would be so much cooler.

Yuriness – Yuri and Shoujo-ai: It has something to do with when a vampire releases all his limits and we get to see his inner self.

Mappy: You were going to stop watching Ga-rei after the first two episodes? Lol those were the ones that made me go omg amazing shit.

And yes after defending the anime last week seems like I’m eating my words. Really this is all going downhill pretty fast:the amnesia, too much footage from the school, monster of the week ala Rosario + Vampire. Goddamit at this rate there’ll be nothing to watch this season for me except for Durarara!!

    I give up >_>

XD If he has amnesia, the show essentially turns into Rosario to Vampire 3

  16. randl Said,

imo, this is really no worse than 90% of the other anime this season. Durarara and hopefully Katanagatari and Nodame 3 are the only others I’d for sure rank ahead so far. I’m also more willing to give this a chance now that we know the reason for the changes to the story > http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2867254&postcount=428

randl: I saw the link… and if the changes mean more loli, less romance plot, and more random crap… well, I’m out. It’s like KK said: it’s basically Rosario + Vampire now, but with more loli and no Moka at the moment. I mean, he doesn’t even know Mina and suddenly she wants to be around him all the time, with no explanation? Part of the draw was the conflict which existed between the two of them, due to certain situations… and they’ve also taken away part of her queen-bitch character too.

I wonder if the mangaka really said all this, or if Shinbo’s trying to play ‘pass the blame’ so he doesn’t get blamed for things he did, by saying that the mangaka approved them.

The good thing about Nodame Cantabile is that you know for sure there is no way it can go bad haha.

I’m loving the animation in this vampire thing, tho.

Yeah I’ve played blazblue and they are similar though if Mina was voiced by Kana Ueda who did Rachel it would have been so awesome.

Not really understanding the hate here. As far as I am concerned, this show is great! :D

There may be bias on my part – I haven’t read the manga and I tend to love all things SHAFT ^^

Oh God, a monster of the week. HOW DO THEY DARE to put anything else than the same vampires we saw in the manga. HOW DO THEY DARE to show a different, varied kind of enemy each week. To the pyre with them.

And vampire loli fanservice? Blasphemous! That’s only for those with a creepy fetish who don’t know how to truly appretiate a manga or anime! To the pyre with the Akamatsu we religiously follow update after update and his miniskirted fetishist vampire loli too.

(I mean, meh, I’m not into Loli myself and wouldn’t actually care if Mina were a Loli, a grown woman or a platypus woman, but I just love when fans are… fans like this).

Hatas will always be hatas, I suppose.

  24. Haesslich Said,

    January 16, 2010 @ 12:03 pm

Overmaster: They had different vampires in the manga. That’s mostly what Volumes 4 and 5 of the manga were about. However, you take away the political elements, the three-way love-triangle issues, as well as Akira’s conflicts with Mina due to various actions caused by political elements…. and all you’re left with is Gonzo’s Rosario and Vampire, but with more pedophile fanservice. Especially with that sunblock gel scene. :P

And it’s not like Evangeline spent an inordinate amount of time naked, nor did she actively pursue Negi the way Mina does here. Fight him, yes – but chase him around like a vampiric version of Kodomo no Jikan? No.

Seriously, if you WANT generic fucking plot, you just leave the anime behind and go out to the movie theatre to watch the latest generic flick. Or turn on a sitcom. Anime has its generic plots, yet there are also anime with more plot than half the crap out there that serves as network TV… and the early trailers promised this, only to replace it with something akin to trolling.

Unless, of course, you’re the type of person who finds Bleach to be fucking Shakespeare. In that case, I can understand your comments and offer my condolences.
