2009 in Review, Part 1

First part of my 2009 in Review article. Only shows I’ve completed watching are in this list, divided in to four tiers of descending “accumulative entertainment value”.

GOD Tier

Senjougahara-fascination in full swing.

Poor Ami~n :(

“o..o..o..o..onii-sama no. IJIMEKKOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Ristorante Paradiso

Seitokai no Ichizon

Seitokai no Ichizon

I’m still rooting for Key-kun’s Harem End.

Awesome Tier

Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo

Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo

Epic space colony battles. Badass Asimo deserved more screentime.

Rin Shan Kai Hou is rather cheating.

Lolicon Hocchan and musical episode made my Season.

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class

Most educational anime I’ve watched this year.

Sora no Otoshimono

Sora no Otoshimono

Flying panties are awesome.

Kuchuu Buranko

Kuchuu Buranko

Second most educational anime I’ve watched this year.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei

Resolves a lot of questions for the series + lots of focus on Rika.

Okay Tier

CLANNAD After Story: KEY should stop using those deus ex machina devices so much.
Zoku Natsume Yuujin-chou: Needs more youkai.
Denpateki na Kanojo: The fastest way to happiness is to look awak from reality.
Asu no Yoichi: Better than I thought.
Hayate no Gotoku 2nd Season: J.C. Staff redeemed themselves.
Fight! Ippatsu Juuden-chan: Would’ve been Awesome tier if they didn’t overuse the urination trope.
Taisho Yakyuu Musume: Would’ve been Awesome tier if they won the last match.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0: Did KEY had a hand in writing the last few episodes for this?
Ontama: Short and (bitter)sweet.
Darker than Black Ryuusei no Gemini: Didn’t learn from its predecessor.
Aoi Bungaku: Batshit insane Nana Mizuki was the highlight.
Kanokon OVA: Rather iyashii-kei, surprisingly.
Nyan Koi!: Just barely in here.
Suzumiya Haruhi II: Not counting Endless Eight that is!

Shit Tier

Kurogane no Linebarrels: Only watched it for the name similarity.
Asura Cryin’: Causality loops are mindfucking.
Chrome-Shelled Regios: Felli was in the wrong show.
Tales of the Abyss: Even gg didn’t finish subbing this shit.
To Aru Majutsu no Index: Adaptation Decay.
Gundam 00 2nd Season: The Innovator’s names.
WHITE ALBUM: Give me back my boyfriend.
Tower of Druaga The Sword of Uruk: Needed more Ropers.
Munto TV: Pretentious as fuck.
K-ON!: A music anime with sucky music.
Umineko no Naku Koro ni: DEEN Adaptation.
Princess Lover!: Took itself as a joke.
Kampfer: Ode to Joy.
The Sacred Blacksmith: Cecily is annoying.
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Purezza: WHITE ALBUM wannabe.
11eyes: The sex in the penultimate episode was just a vision? GODDAMNIT.

In total, 43 shows completed this year. I’m surprised at how much I managed to watch despite thinking about how slow this year was. Then again, I never did keep track of the number of shows I watched for the last few years…..

Part 2, which consists of other miscanellous accolades, should be up tomorrow!

Ahh! Why is To Aru Kagaku no Railgun not on here?

  3. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    December 31, 2009 @ 8:36 pm

@Vexir: Because it hasn’t ended yet?

  4. NovaJinx Said,

Heh, GA’s educational aspect got a huge boost for me since I was working in graphical industry at the time (as a printing machine operator). Our CMYK-group was never the same to me again.

  5. Maserbeam Said,

    December 31, 2009 @ 9:18 pm

Despite Regios being shit tier, I still enjoyed it. And the engrish made me laugh my intestines out.

Kuro: Didn’t get around to watching Taishou Yakyuu Musume? It was essentially cute girls playing baseball, if that ticks your fancy.

  6. Maserbeam Said,

    December 31, 2009 @ 9:20 pm

Nevermind, I feel like an idiot. Skipped the okay tier and went to read the shit tier..

  7. SnooSnoo Said,

    December 31, 2009 @ 10:06 pm

I still think Setokai would have been Beyond God Tier if it was DEEN DEEN DEEN DEEN.

  8. SnooSnoo Said,

^ wasn’t. Damn. *Looks for Edit button*

Besides that, kind of awesome list and happy new year to you.

  12. bobbierob Said,

…how was k-on bad? i think that the music was good. are how is clannad after story OKAY? like seriously if it wasn’t REALLY GOOD then it should at least be DECENT.

  13. ~XXX Said,

    January 1, 2010 @ 3:25 pm

Kurogane even had his slow days and not to mention that, Bakemonogatari is a really good show…not to mention some things that I don’t need to discuss…(wait! this is pointless)

I just wonder, why there are only few of the titles I know and some of them didn’t appeal to me at first glance… I guess, I’m still am cramming for the stupid things… wait you said 43 shows, so it means you really pull out an all-nighter with that?

K-on on the s***-tier? taishou in the okay-tier? looks like a dillema for me?

Sorry for the long comment.(a novel)

  14. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    January 1, 2010 @ 3:59 pm

@SnooSnoo: Well, I personally thought there was a certain low-budget charm to DEEN’s treatment of Seitokai. Anyways, the series strong point was the dialogue, not the animation.

@cmlim: Personally, it’s not just 43, if you include the non-completed ones I tried. Previous year counts should be higher I would say.

    @mabber @bobbierob: U MAD?

@XXX: I don’t marathon shows, all the shows here are watched on a weekly basis. Also, I really didn’t like K-ON after the first half. And the music disappoints.

  19. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    January 2, 2010 @ 1:32 am

@cmlim: As I said, I watch them weekly. About 7-8 hours a week for current shows, throughout the year. It’s not that hard to follow after you get used to it.

@Rin: Glad you agree to my selections too!

  20. Avi.mono@gmail.com Said,

  21. buh Said,

    January 2, 2010 @ 11:52 am

Sora no Otoshimono deserves God Tier IMO.
K-On! turned to shit in the last few episodes when the girls all turned to emo shits for no reason.
Keep up the good work Kuro.

  22. Tremere Said,

    January 3, 2010 @ 10:42 am

    Where is Railgun?

  23. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    January 3, 2010 @ 11:30 am

@Tremere: The show isn’t finished yet, so it’s not included here.

  24. Lehq Said,

    January 3, 2010 @ 6:28 pm

K-ON! is overrated. I liked the songs but that’s about it. Ichizon is kinda overrated too.
Eden of the East and Bakemonogatari, yeah, awesome.
Also Time of Eve and Kara no Kyoukai if those count.

  25. Rawrsh Said,

    January 5, 2010 @ 3:30 pm

  27. bobierob Said,

  28. Puto Said,

    January 9, 2010 @ 3:38 pm

slightly surprised you didn’t have a Show that mad me cry like a B**CH category…. then again there was only like 1 which COULD have done this… had it not screwed us over by putting in a happy song at the end of a certain episode making you go WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE at the screen and all that fun stuff…. *sigh*

but anyways ):3… I agree with you on most :3, nice review… look forward to 2010’s review… I hope to see Kimi ni Todoke in the God tier o_o…….

  29. Tim Said,

    May 3, 2010 @ 7:36 pm

To the guy writing these reviews, You should read the manga for Kanokon, Latly especially these ecchi types, the episodes are pretty watered down, or miss alot of the story.

i personally watch the whole season/s of the anime then read its manga(if i have time).
So you can give a more accurate review.

OH watch Omamori Himari. shits beast. first episode is also really good, not slow paced at all.
