And an episode to remember for all of us too!

Oh god, that was really a great final episode for Bakemonogatari. I really didn’t expect this to happen since Tsubasa Cat just started, but it seems they decided to put that on hold and dedicate this episode to the greatness that is Senjougahara. Fitting enough, since she’s been quite missing throughout Nadeko Snake.

While Nadeko’s extremely moe-moe huggable, but Bakemonogatari w/o Senjougahara just feels odd. And SHAFT surely did us all a good turn here by giving us this great episode for us.

What I really find touching the most is how Senjougahara opens up to Araragi so honestly; as Araragi puts it in the opening text, ‘laying out all her cards’. I find this as the final confirmation of her trust towards Araragi, to the point she manages to admit she’s still scared of sexual contact after the traumatic incident in her childhood, but she is willing to overcome it just for him. It’s just such a touching admission and I must say I shed a few tears when she did so.

Also, Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari sure cemented itself in my list of emotionally-impacting songs. The lyrics just seem to reflect on this particular scene and I wonder now… was the song written with this scene in mind or vice-versa. Nevertheless, every time I hear it now, I’ll be reminded of this starry first date between Araragi and Senjougahara.

Finally, there’s still 3 more episodes of Bakemonogatari, to be aired via webstream. I really want to see how Tsubasa Cat plays out to warrant an additional 3 episodes with SHAFT going to the trouble of webcasting it instead of cutting it down to size or dropping it entirely.

Best episode of pretty much every show this season.

I had so many moments on both extreme ends of the “Oh SHI-!” spectrum (both the good kind – “Oh Shi-! hell yes”, and the bad “Oh Shi-! run for it!”) just from this episode alone…pure gold. A lot of A+ touching moments too.

I’m only sad that it’s pretty much over…. (at least we have that Shinobu DVD arc later).

*Still at loss for words to desribe this episode*

All I can do is to quote from animesuki forums:
“ Move over Haruhiism, the Senjougahara Fascination Movement is here.”

God the ending scene connecting with the lyrics of the ED was really beautiful. I had been listening to the ending for a while now. So it just enhanced the meaning for me.

Bakemonogatari is the best show of the season because:
    1. It’s great
    2. It has no pacing issues.
    3. It has Senjougahara

This was the best episode as of now. This is the reason why we love Hitagi Senjougahara.

If people didn´t like her before then they sure will after this ep :)

A pretty bland ending to a show like this though. I wish for more episodes.

Shouldn´t be to hard to create. It´s quite nice to see that Shaft can pull of a episode where all they do is sit in school and talk, ride in a car and talk and then lie down on a mat and talk and then the ep ends.

And people love it, makes you wonder how people would have reacted if it was KyoAni or other companies that did it…

Oh well. A great show has ended and I bow my head down to you Kuro for taking this many screencaps and uploading it. Great job.

manga: The thing is that Bakemonogatari is not based upon stuff happening as much as it is on dialog. It’s like Tarantino, but gore replaced by loli. Kyoani could probably have handled it, but it required that SHAFT spice methinks.

And yes, best series this year so far. Haruhi passed by quite unnoticed for me in comparison, as Bakemonogatari became the main event every week.

Bakemonogatari without Senjougahara is like Haruhi without Kyon.

Where can I purchase this “SHAFT Spice”, and do you know any good recipes for cooking up my own homemade batch of crazy?

  11. manga Said,

@ The Hordesman: Just that I mean. If it had been almost any other animating studio it would not have worked out like this. KyoAni might with a very little chance of success have made it, but I don´t think it would have been as good.

Shaft are masters at dialogue in anime. Simple as that.

Don’t know if anyone else caught this – the constellations Senjougahara points out are Virgo, Ophiuchus, Serpens, and Cancer. That is, the Maiden, the Snake-Holder, the Snake, and the Crab. (These names are a little more obvious in Japanese.) Sadly, there is no Monkey in the sky for her to point out. I guess she doesn’t know about Tsubasa’s issues or she could have pointed out Leo, Leo Minor, or Lynx which would all have been visible.

Oh god… she’s laid all the cards on the table, and she’s been a better flirt than Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier. AND she got Fatherly Approval for the suitor. She may be yandere for Araragi, but she knows how to turn on the moe when she needs it.

All hail the return of the Queen Sengjougahara!!!

That was the best date scene in an anime series I’ve ever saw.

  15. Mentar Said,

@DarkReign: Even MORE Yanderes? I hope you were kidding, right? Kanbaru was a picture-perfect Yandere. Even Senjogahara has alot of Yandere in her.

Anyway, great finish. It never ceases to amaze me how Senjogahara can deliver the meanest teases and the most delicate and touching-romantic lines in just the same way: Center-straight pitches. Wonderful.

  16. Haesslich Said,

Now we know why she wasn’t there – she was busy setting up this whole evening, in order to fell him with one shot. Getting her dad’s approval, planning this night, laying out her approach, then enacting the plan with panache.

While I agree the episode content was great, I had qualms with the animation. DO you know how freaking much exposition there is, and how little key frames there are actually? That aside, I pretty much loved this episode. HitagixKoyomi was also pretty much cemented with this.

Hitagi is all sorts of awesome (not that I needed to say it). She had a tragic background setting, but she doesn’t let that get to her, which is pretty amazing.

On another note,I actually never though much of Chiwa Saitou as a seiyuu until I heard her in this. I sort of have a new found appreciation for her.

  24. GrimmyGrinny Said,

well, judging from what we see from the first episode, i don’t think all 3 of the episodes will be dedicated to the Tsubasa Cat arc(to my disappointment. i’ve been moeing so damn hard for Hocchan and Hanekawa ever since ep 1). They’d probably cover the Koyomi Vamp arc too.

Strangely, to me, Bakemonogatari is all about Koyomi’s symbiotic ahoge. That should be classified as an oddity of it’s own :3
