/agree with The Longcoat- cowboy bebop is too BADASS for rl

i'm ok with keanu reeves being spike but am still hopeful that maybe
they will rewrite it to the point where they kick out keany reeves and maybe get a better actor instead =P not that he doesnt have "untapped potential" but i just don't want him to try to find himself while making this movie- just go ahead and get a better actor so that we are SURE he won't screw it all up.. whatever is left to screw up anyways

anyways i made a handmade spike ipod/phone/gadget case and wanted to share in case anyone is interested, you can check it out here:

So basically they're saying they need to dumb it down to make it more affordable. Sleek move, Hollywood.

I don't know what to make of these anime adaptations by Hollywood, they fill me with such uneasiness since I surely won't be able to remember one without the other; Dragon Ball is a good example.

Apparently Keanu's "enthusiasm" over the project is what convinced the Sunrise execs to hand over the reins to his production group. So either he can actually act, which is a good sign, or he can at least channel some of that emotion into the role.

When I first thought of the possibility of there being a Bebop live action, I thought that Whedon would be a good choice to helm it. He was, after all, the creative genius behind Firefly, which pretty much was Cowboy Bebop minus the bounties and the iconic characters (although I do get an Ed vibe from Kaylee or River every once in a while). Now I think not. He's really cemented himself in his "wheels within wheels" style, and as well as that worked in the Buffyverse and on Firefly and still works well on Dollhouse, Bebop just ain't that deep. Deeper than the vast majority of Hollywood output, but not Whedon deep. Besides, he'd upset too many people the first time he decides to kill off someone major just for shits and giggles like he so loves to do. Maybe he could handle the oft-rumored Hollywood Death Note adaptation, or team with Speilberg for Ghost in the Shell. His talents would do him well there.

On the topic of Bebop: Live Action, I imagine we are all in agreeance that Yoko Kanno should be involved in some fashion. She's every bit as responsible for Bebop's animated success as director Watanabe. But this being Hollywood, the Fox execs are going to want to involve talent they already own (or at least well-known American talent they can make secondary money off of). My question is, what are your thoughts on popular artists performing some of Bebop's more recognizable tunes (under Kanno-sensei's watchful eye, of course)? I've got to say the thought of Norah Jones singing The Real Folk Blues over the closing credits intrigues me...

Apparently it is financially infeasible to make Cowboy Bebop a live action movie in all it's original intended glory, because Cowboy Bebop is too fraking badass for real life. "Pull it back in scope" is just pretty words for adaptation decay. The gods weep.

Also, Firefly=Cowboy Bebop. In spirit at least.

As for Keanu getting the part: Has anyone ever noticed how freakishly close he resembles Spike? O.o The choice, based on appearance alone, is so obvious to pick Keanu. Personally, I've always felt the guy had a lot of untapped potential as an actor. Hopefully he'll deliver an excellent performance for Spike (deep character that he is) and break out of the typecast roles he's been handed for the past few years.
