Negima: Another World OAD #1

魔法先生ネギマ! もうひとつの世界

KITAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s have a butt load of screencaps then my impressions, kay?

魔法先生ネギマ! もうひとつの世界

I wouldn’t have minded a bit more Iincho screentime. It’s never boring with her around.

魔法先生ネギマ! もうひとつの世界

Sayaka Ohara fits well as Donnet. But I can’t forget her cackles yet ( *=‿=*)

Ahahaha~ Negi and Nekane finally reunite. Miyuki Sawashiro as Nekane is okay, but feels underutilized.

魔法先生ネギマ! もうひとつの世界

On the other hand, Akira Ishida as Fate is sooooo fitting. That menacingly condescending tone is so nicely pulled off by him.

Wait, WTF! WHY IS THERE A HENSHIN SCENE FOR ADEAT?!! I THOUGHT WE WOULDN’T BE SEEING THIS SHIT IN THE OAD!!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFF (╬ ಠ益ಠ)(╬ ಠ益ಠ)(╬ ಠ益ಠ)(╬ ಠ益ಠ)

COUNTER-PUNCH. Fate is a man that truly believes in paying back his debts.

Whoa… Yue, what is that mizugi I DON’T EVEN

First thoughts first, things are cut out quite a bit, but unavoidable anyways considering the limited budget. At least most of the important plot/character building bits got cameo appearances.

Best part of this OAD is definitely the action scenes. Despite my initial displeasure, I did quite enjoy the action parts well enough. I do wish they animated it more smoothly, which brings me to my next point…

Admit it, the animation quality is terrible. It’s not unwatchable, but for a direct-to-DVD release, the animation quality I expected from it is terrible. Maybe the upscaled raw contributed a bit to my negative impressions, but it still feels terrible when compared to the animation quality in the Ala Alba OAD. I heard SHAFT is in terrible need for more manpower, and now I think I highly agree with that. Anyways, I hope conditions improve for the next few OAD’s and the upcoming movie.

Nothing to say about the new OP and ED. Negima music really isn’t my cup of tea most of the times, despite all the star-power they put in there. Might as well just get Hocchan to compose her songs for it rather.

New additions to the cast are fitting to their characters, but I hear Kamiya Hiroshi is voicing adult Negi. I can’t say I quite agree with that, but Kamiya’s voice has a surprising flexibility when it comes down to doing it, so it might not be too bad. Well, we’ll see in the next OAD.

Crap, completely forgot that this was coming out, and completely forgot to order it somewhere. Arse, arse, arse.

Comments regarding the animation quality are disappointing, but given what other Shaft productions have looked like in recent weeks it’s perhaps not too shocking. It’s inevitable that they’d stretch themselves too thin eventually.

    Good episode!

The animation quality…. I think the staff spent most of the time in the battle scenes: those parts are well drawn and animated but in the rest of the episode there are so many immobile frames here and there.

    LOL at Natsumi (><) !

Hm, I never realized from the manga that Negi struck Fate with that object. Only barely showed up in one panel, now that I took a closer look. Always thought it was Negi’s fist. Returning that object to Fate now seems a lot more satisfying than just a fist :P

By the way, if what I’ve seen on the official website is any indication, that final image you have there will be the art on the box with the Volume 27 LE.

    :D

I skipped reading this post and it’s screencaps until after I had actually seen the thing (and it took forever to find)

The art style was lacking, but I was prepared for that. The OP got me totally pumped simply by having Rakan in it. I cannot express how awesome I find him to be. And Theodora (sp?) as well, I thought it was grand.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 25 minutes or so this took. Fate is terrific and the VA does a great job. I thought I heard some Rie Kugimiya in there, but maybe I’m just waiting for HnG 2×25 to come out tonight and it’s getting to me. Overall, very fun and totally hoping Rakan finds his way into the OVAs.

“Whoa… Yue, what is that mizugi I DON’T EVEN”

Yeah, that was basically my reaction too. Totally unprepared for that. Not really big on the Yue-type fanserivce.

I think (animation wise) Ala Alba OADs are worse than this one.

@Anise: Rie Kugimiya was in it. She was Tsukuyomi.

Are they actually selling this? I thought it was going to be an omake on a manga volume, like Ala Alba was.

Because if it’s an omake, that would explain the low animation budget.

Steven – It ships with the LE release of manga volume 27, but it does cost significantly more than the regular edition. You are paying a hefty premium for it, and with the number of units these OAD’s have been shipping, you’d have thought that the production values would be higher.

^ Well, SHAFT does seem to be suffering. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re putting most of their efforts into Bakemonogatari (replacing all those missing scenes?). Perhaps leaving the Negima OADs to any new employees, if any. And maybe (hopefully), they have a Negima budget saved up for the more important parts of the OADs and the far-in-the-future movie.

I liked the character designs from the Spring and Summer OVAs and SHAFT’s Negima TV better…these character designs may be more “manga-like” but they just remind me of Love Hina Again, which isn’t a pleasant memory…

Still enjoyed this episode, hopefully they get a bigger budget to work with next time…

Hmm, I never knew there was an OAD of this coming out. I feel so behind lol.
I guess I’ll have to pick this up and see for myself what it’s like.
Thanks for the screens! and yeah, the animation seems to be of a lesser quality, but ah well.

I actually Think that Hiroshi Kamiya makes an excellent choice for Adult Negi’s voice. Has the level of sophistication to make him work, while at the same time has the level of menace under the voice to really bring out Dark Negi. God I wish they would stop with this OAD crap and just make a full anime from the beginning.

Well Kurogane, Sawashiro was Nakane/Black Rose Baron (I believe)/Shichimi in the Negima?! adaptation, so hey. :P

I thought the same thing about the Henshin scene, like WTF?
Then I checked the Manga… it’s actually in there, though brief, after they call adeat they’re surrounded by magic energy, then they’re in their new outfits w/artifacts.
