Banquet of the Golden Witch, Twitter-style

Umineko no Naku Koro ni

This will be an extremely spoilerish post about Umineko Episode 3, Banquet of the Golden Witch. It contains my thoughts about the story, as I proceeded through it, done in a twitter-like style. Anyways it was a really great arc. Really great arc. Don’t read if you don’t want to get spoiled…. though it’s pretty unlikely you will understand my ramblings unless you’ve read through the episode yourself already.

>>Oh Battler you lucky sonnafabitch! Getting toyed around as much as you like by the Seven Stakes! “Oh no Beatrice-sama he broke again! Fix him! Fix him!”

>>Hey Eva hates cigarettes. Starting to like her a bit now.

>>FFFFFFFFFFFF Battler gets reversed trolled back with Hempel’s Raven. God damn those logic theories.

>>Battler attempts to reverse reverse troll Beato… but FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF RED TEXT SHIIIIIIT

>>Opening salvo: Battler 1 – 0 Beatrice.

>>Beato was once human? Oh wow. Man why is she sometimes so moe-moe?!

>>Oh god Battler and Ronove hitting it on. And to think that Daisuke Ono and Sugita Tomokazu are playing them respectively. Fuck it’s feels like a reverse Koizumi here!

>>Oh dear playing with them ass nee-chan’s sure is deadly.

>>There are no more than 18 people on Rokkenjima. Oh shit, Beato takes the offensive!

>>Oh finally it’s the second day. Let the blood flow!

>>The Seven Sisters sure are entertaining…. poor arrogant Lucifer lolololol.

>>Genjiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ;_;

>>Oh shiiiiiiii…….. wtf KUMASAWA IS WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN.

>>Oh nooooo Beato won. Poor Battler left with his mouth hanging wide open.

>>Poor Battler~ crying and hiding under the table~ coz he can’t argue back~

>>Rokkenjima = Giant Schrodinger’s cat experiment huh.

>>Eva found the gold! But the answer to the epitaph wasn’t revealed!

>>щ(゚Д゚щ) Battler slapped Beato!

>>Awww Beato’s hurt that Battler slapped her ( ´_ゝ`)

>>Awww Beato’s sad that Battler doesn’t want to see her face at all ( ´_ゝ`)

>>Whoa fuck, epic showdowns between Belphegor vs Rudolf and Leviathan vs Kyrie. Holy shit Kyrie is scary.

>>Σ(゚Д゚ ) OMG the Siestas’ are scary. And a little cool too.

>>George’s ‘Tomitake Flash’ t-shirt sure ruins the poignant mood of his sadness.

>>Oh god, Beato sacrificing herself to protect Jessica and Kanon-kun’s final meeting!!! MANLY TEARS WERE SHED.

You mention the epitaph! Yes, it becomes clearer here, but it doesn’t actually become solvable until Episode 4. And in Episode 5, a rather oblique hint emerged that allowed Chinese fans to zoom in on a likely possibility for the answer to the epitaph. One of whom dropped the Qilian Epitaph Theory on me, and who actually linked me to this here post.

Episode 5 reveals that Kinzo likes areca nuts. These are not something common in Japan, but were common in a certain former Japanese territory before the start of WW2.

    Things go crazy from there.

Heh heh, that was pretty much my reaction. Kyrie seriously pwns, eh? We also see Battler being awesome. Hope its well represented in the anime.

I thought this would be your reaction to this episode, Kuro.

    Pretty much mine. Goddamnit, Beato.

I went from extreme rage to admiration in the space of two minutes, I so totally got played by Beato. And just when you think Beato’s the master troll Lambdadelta puts Beato in her fucking place in Tea Party. That was some of the most interesting dialogue thus far in the series. Also every time I hear that BGM Mirage Coordinator I always think “Lambda’s about to rape someone”.

Guess everybody reading EP3 got trolled by her act. The set up for this was established in a great way over the whole story…. and you also got a hint really early on with this talk about north wind and sun analogy ^^
But did you notice how Beato was hesitantly revealing she trolled Battler hardcore? How do we have to take this? :P

“Also every time I hear that BGM Mirage Coordinator I always think “Lambda’s about to rape someone””
Quite fitting description ^^ But there is still even more awesome music from zts awaiting for the grand final of EP4.

I’m also surprised about the fast pace to get through all the content. Took me so much longer to read ^^

BTW if you liked EP3 you should watch the “new” OP of the anime starting with episode 12. They only again put in some pseudo-spoiler scenes for what is to come.

@Digdri: It’s not so much as fast, as being totally obsessed. When I am really in to something, I really am INTO it. I once finished Harry Potter Book 4 in one night of feverish reading accompanied by a pack of ground nuts and bread.

Well ok I know what you mean… when I reached the part with Marias phone call in EP1 already half asleep after midnight I also read on til morning because I wanted to know how this story concludes.

Wait an see how this plays out >;)
I thinks shes by far the most interesting and complex character of the games. Think back at what she did at Rosa Purgatorio,. then think back how she talk about the past in kind words with Shannon at the beach.
The real story behind her sure will be one of the biggest mysteries of the whole series. All the different “Beatrices” popping up in EP3 made it even more difficult so see her all as just one consistent personality. And after EP5 you still have no real clue what to REALLY make out of this :P

    This part was brilliant!

But don´t give Beatrice all the credit! The one, who came up with this… evil… cruel… MAGNIFICENT idea, striking the hearts of us guys, were Lady Virgilia!
You magnificent bitch, I´ll read your book!
Also Ronove… His Closed Circle Opening is quite an interesting riddle. Let see, if it will be solved. Both of them stole Beatrice the show here.

But I must admit, that Beatrice is a really, really good actor… Uhm, everything was an act, right? I mean, this last part, the attempted suicide by using the Red Truth, was really dangerous! Now Battler knows, it´s possible to explain everything by humans!

I also like, how the siblings came together in this scenario and helped each other. Even Krauss became a lot more sympathic.

And Kyrie, Rudolf and even Hideyoshi in my opinion kicked massive asses here!

I totally believed Beato till the very last moment >_>

Virgillia’s face when she reveals her true colors was priceless.

ANGE and The Seven ass-nee sans ftw xD

I actually have a very good feeling about what is to come for the anime. The quality of the first episode of what is to be the adaptation of “Banquet of the Golden Witch” had a much less condensed feeling to it. If you ask me, the “holy shit epic magic battle” will be instigated at the end of the second episode of the arc and carry out partway through the third.
