It looked more like Kyon was going to punch her rather than slap =O Haruhi was pretty abusive though, so I can understand why.

For those debating the morality of Kyon's aggressive reaction - In the novel Haruhi was more seriously abusing Mikuru. That is, after another contact lens session Haruhi attempts to remove the contact lens by repeating smacking Mikuru in the back of the head. Hard.

It's made somewhat ambiguous by being edited for length and to be more acceptable for a popular main character.

Well, as bad as haruhi is, I hate Mikuru, so meh. She's insufferable, and I personally can't stand her personality. The whininess and the uselessness. Then again, that's enough Mikuru bashing.

The episode was a nice change of pace, although the characterization for Kyon was off when he snapped, I felt it went right back on track with the line he fed Haruhi at the end. I forgot what he was going to say, and go figure, he says the damndest thing.

Well.... she did really abuse poor Mikuru so badly. I would've seriously snapped.

As one of the perceived minority who is glad she didn't get punched/slapped/pummelled/smashed,etc, there was a hell of a discussion about this on another blog. I don't deny she deserved to at least be threatened, but considering Haruhi's attitude I don't think she 100% deserved physical punishment (even though calling Mikuru her "toy" (if fansubs were correct) was pushing things).

Anyway, her face seems to show that even by just raising his fist the impact of Kyon's actions to Haruhi was the same to her as being struck.

Many would argue that a mere slap would have been too lenient.

"Also I kinda half-wish that Kyon DID slap that bitch in this episode. She was really asking for that. Seriously."

That was not exactly something I could call a slap...:)...and I am sure many agree with you...Many wanted that to happen
