“Mahjong sure is fun.”

Saki

Aaaaaaaand the tournament finally ends, with Saki pulling an amazing comeback with an Chinitsu Toitoi all-concealed pon/kans Rinshan Kaiho with 1 red Dora, taking 32,000 points from Koromo with the special rule. That was possibly the longest and most dramatic tile taking sequence in the whole series so far, but man, that was really all kinds of epic there.

I will definitely have to say… Saki sure is beloved by the tiles, it’s fucking amazing how she got that hand from her initial draws.

Now… what’s gonna happen after this? I’m pretty sure they’ve run out of the manga material, and doing the national tournament seems kinda unlikely with only 5(if 24) or 7(if26) episodes left in the run…. unless they’re gonna drag the show out another season. Next episode preview already is a fanservice episode too….

About SaiMoe 2009…

Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of you guys want me to cover SaiMoe this year, but frankly to say after three years, a lot of the novelty’s gone for me. Especially after last year’s Kagamin’s win, which was actually the first year I’d thought SaiMoe had a decent winner.

Well, that’s not to say I won’t cover it, but don’t expect me to cover the pre-lims. It’s too much work and I’m in for a busy period now (final year of my studies), so if I do cover SaiMoe 2009, it’ll probably be when the group finals or the tournament proper starts.

In the mean time, Moetron is offering daily coverage about SaiMoe, or you can always go to the usual Animesuki forums thread for results updates.

GA is pretty much the best show this season isn’t it?

A slice-of-life show that is original, funny, entertaining and informative without being boring. That’s what my impression of GA Geijutsuka Art Design has been like. It’s pretty much the best show, comedy and entertainment-wise so far from the crop of summer anime, and I already am impressed by quite a number of other shows this season.

Best part about the show is how informative it can be, and from the first two episodes I’ve already learned some interesting bits of trivia just from seeing the characters talk about their lessons. Even better as well they use it as a subject of humor, which kinda makes it stick in your head. Makes it interesting to watch too, compared to the going-nowhere humor of other shows like Hidamari Sketch.

And the characters are really quite a fun bunch, with proper chemistry amongst each other. The main five is a well balanced mix of seniors and rookies covering the gamut with Hocchan, Miyuki Sawashiro, Nazuka Kaori, Haruka Tomatsu and Ai Tokunaga. Amongst them, the ones that stand out the most is of course Tomatsu’s rendition of Kisaragi which had me fooled in to thinking that she was Noto-sama at first. No Mean Feat® I assure you. ‘s matter of fact, it’s really gotten me a new respect for her vocal talents.

The other one is Nazuka Kaori’s deadpan voice as Miyabi a.k.a ‘Kyoju’, since she’s always the straight man. I never knew she could pull off such a deadpan voice, being more accustomed to her “onii-chan~” as Nunally and her performance as the deeply hurt Hiromi. In fact, I don’t think I could recognize her at all in the two episodes I’ve been watching.

Hm, this has turned out to be a pretty long post. Anyways, gotta catch up with the three episodes. Can’t really rely on Ayako, can we?

The Geass of Mahjong

Saki

Supreme trollan’ there, Saki.

This episode has left me with no doubt that Saki has the Geass of Mahjong. And Ikeda kinda reclaimed herself with this episode! Look at that near Kokushi Musou! ‘s too bad Saki trolled[1] her out of winning.

[1](Yes, in mahjong, the ultimate trolling method is to win with a cheap hand to prevent another opponent with a potentially huge hand to win.)

We’re not watching Haruhi anymore. This is actually the third 07th Expansion universe, in which a new witch, Suzy, who has the power to torture a single person endlessly, is playing with this guy, the poor Kyon-kun, to alleviate the boredom of being alive for over 1000 years. To escape, Kyon-kun must figure out what Suzy wants that she hasn’t experienced in over a thousand years of summer vacation.

Poor Kyon-kun.

In the meantime, キョンくん、電話。
