GA is pretty much the best show this season isn’t it?

A slice-of-life show that is original, funny, entertaining and informative without being boring. That’s what my impression of GA Geijutsuka Art Design has been like. It’s pretty much the best show, comedy and entertainment-wise so far from the crop of summer anime, and I already am impressed by quite a number of other shows this season.

Best part about the show is how informative it can be, and from the first two episodes I’ve already learned some interesting bits of trivia just from seeing the characters talk about their lessons. Even better as well they use it as a subject of humor, which kinda makes it stick in your head. Makes it interesting to watch too, compared to the going-nowhere humor of other shows like Hidamari Sketch.

And the characters are really quite a fun bunch, with proper chemistry amongst each other. The main five is a well balanced mix of seniors and rookies covering the gamut with Hocchan, Miyuki Sawashiro, Nazuka Kaori, Haruka Tomatsu and Ai Tokunaga. Amongst them, the ones that stand out the most is of course Tomatsu’s rendition of Kisaragi which had me fooled in to thinking that she was Noto-sama at first. No Mean Feat® I assure you. ‘s matter of fact, it’s really gotten me a new respect for her vocal talents.

The other one is Nazuka Kaori’s deadpan voice as Miyabi a.k.a ‘Kyoju’, since she’s always the straight man. I never knew she could pull off such a deadpan voice, being more accustomed to her “onii-chan~” as Nunally and her performance as the deeply hurt Hiromi. In fact, I don’t think I could recognize her at all in the two episodes I’ve been watching.

Hm, this has turned out to be a pretty long post. Anyways, gotta catch up with the three episodes. Can’t really rely on Ayako, can we?

Apparently I belong to the dark side because I wear glasses, why did she spill the beans on that ?!

Why aren’t there more subbers for this instead of Kanamemo and Umi Monogatari (or even Juuden-chan[or even Haruhi]).

While it’s not my favourite series this season (which is Tokyo Magnitude) I agree with the rest of this post. It’s very informative for a slice of life series, and the pacing just keeps the jokes fresh.

GA is OSM. Too bad subs take too long.

Actually, it depends on your sense of humor. Over two episodes, I found it slow, boring, and not funny at all. Good seiyuus, though. And your praise will make me go back and take another look.

All right, you’ve convinced me to give this show a whirl. I better not be disappointed!

Seconded. I’d never even heard of this GA series until I read this post. Senjougahara fascination FTW!

I find it hard to compare to Hidamari Sketch, both are moeblob comedies, but Hidamari lacks any form of pacing, which is both a good and bad thing, all depending on taste. Hidamari is one of my favorite shows however, as it is sweet, simple and atmospheric (also Yuno mai waifu). The only likeness is really the setting, and both series include a tomboy in the all-female cast(In GA, she also happens the be GAr).

GA has been great so far, and I do, for one, like the complete lack of fanservice. I know some would like to tear up my throat for that statement, but sometimes, we get too much of that, right?

On the moe front, I must say this is the first time a character in a series happens to be the meganekko. I mean, they barely cover the eyes! It’s awesome! HHHNNNNGGGG

I think, it depends on the genre…

Best Action Show this season is certainly Canaan.
    Best Dialoges has certainly Bakamonogatari…
    Best Mystery/Horror may be Umineko…

But your mileage may vary extremely, personally I´m quite found of Kanamemo for example…

I agree, that GA is quite informative (more than K-ON), but did you watch Taishou Yakyuu Musume? This show also is quite well-done! J.C.Staff is pretty good this year…

Bakemonogatari is best this season, imho. This show is pretty good as well, but only if you don’t want to follow a plot or anything.

Btw, will you be blogging Saimoe 09 anytime soon? I’m following Moetron’s listings right now, but something about your past posts on Saimoe seemed easier to follow…

If episode 2 of GA doesn’t convince anyone to keep watching, they shouldn’t be watching it. I was laughing pretty farkin’ hard when they compressed entire seasons of the typical shonen jump plot progression to less than 10 minutes.

No we can’t rely on ayako… they only subbed 2 out of 5 episodes up till now. (;_;)

The anime (and the manga) is especially enjoyable for me because it reminds me so much of my high school year when I first took classes like ‘Art Design’ and ‘Graphic’, and then found out how much I dig this field. Moreover, it is also a rather realistic portrayal of such classes and the high school art students too. It probably sounds hellishly cheesy, but this is like seeing my high school year being played to me on the screen.

(…Now that I think about it, I kinda miss that fun and more innocent days when all I have to worry about in Graphic design class are ideas and grades. Now, as a college student (Graphic Design Major), it is still fun, but it is also about (real) client’s satisfaction (which some of them have a really bad taste) and presentation and a really convincing parade of bullshitting… I guess that is life.)

I enjoy GA because of all the art information that it provides. Hidamari was more about the relationships of the characters than art.
