Koromo is fucking scary

Oh wow, this actually beats Akagi in terms of intensity. Koromo is a real demon. This final round is totally going nuts on the mahjong plays. Shit like that NEVER happens in real life mahjong.

That’s GONZO for you. Despite all the hate we could have against them, we’ve to gave them credit for this insane series… a 16-year-old brat how could possible make cry Akagi and any other punk.
We still love you GONZO.

No, this isn’t GONZO. All they did for this anime was coordinate a few issues, and they seem to have been removed from that as well. I repeat, this ISN’T GONZO.

That was a pretty awesome episode in terms of greatness for Koromo.
It really makes me wish they would do a poker anime. That would be legend

Well, whoever did this, it was done well.
I was really surprised by how entertaining this series is, despite still not understanding a single thing about mahjong.

Let me be the voice of dissent then, because the mah jong is so stupid it’s turning me off from the whole show. If they wanted things to be this ridiculous, why not just say that it is “Magic Mah Jong” or something? None of the characters in the show are actually good at mah jong, they just compete in being lucky.
I thought the show was enjoyable to start with, but as this tournament has progressed, it has become Prince of Tennis, just replace the boys with girls and the magic tennis with magic mah jong. Neither is very interesting.

Not interesting to you maybe, but I find regular mahjong really boring. It can’t compete with Mahjong Of The Legendary Skill. You are NEVER going to get two Rin Shan Kai Ho’s in a row. Most of us are never going to see a Chan Kan in real life…ever. This is why Saki is awesome. If I want to see realistic mahjong…I’ll PLAY real mahjong. I can’t wait to see more Koromo ass kicking next episode.Kana is SOOOOOO screwed.

Yes, I will agree that it’s a bit ridiculous, but that’s the point of the show. If the show is about playing Mahjong the “real” way, I would probably get bored after just 2 episodes.

Well, this show definitely isn’t about being educational. The probability of these yakus (winning conditions?)are pretty freaking low, after all. Koromo’s archaic talk is also pretty cool.

Pretty low my ass. It’s not gonna happen. Two last-draw wins? Yeah…and I can call on the heart of the cards when I play poker

beat Akagi? I’m sorry but I disagree
washizu mahjong was way more crazier than this
I also find Akagi’s mind games more sinister than someone who relies on rabbit ears and special effects to make her pressence known

of course Koromo could beat Akagi. Akagi does not have hax mahjong abilities. He can be as smart as he wants, he’s not going to beat a (probably) bi-polar loli with tile controlling abilities. It’s like playing Quake, and all the monsters are on God mode. Also Saki is way more entertaining. At least hear….everyone “cheats”…and in the flashiest way possible.

Three things that make Saki work as entertainment
1 – Light Yuri undertones in the manga are blow out of proportion in the anime
2 – Characters that are fanservice friendly, and, again, blow out of proportion but it doesn’t really get to you, as it would in any harem anime.
3 – The “Magic Mahjong”. I was never really interested in mahjong, but we got to admit that those impossible hands at every single round looked more cool using those “magics” and “power levels” than it would be in the normal gameplay.
The way the show has being going so far is quite enjoyable, specially for someone like me who didn’t know a single thing about mahjong till I started watching this.

@T_I: I said ‘intensity’, not ‘craziness’. Washizu Mahjong still remains the definition of craziness of any mahjong anime. In fact, Akagi still wins in terms of ‘insanity’.
But really, 2 Rin Shan Kai Hou’s followed by a Chan Kan and two Haitei Raoyue in a single fucking hanchan is fucking intense. If the Kokushi Musou appeared as well, oh man….
Anyways, I watched Saki expecting FOR ‘magic’ mahjong. Real life mahjong is considerably less dramatic or intense. In fact, most mahjong shows do all these shit, that’s how they provide their entertainment. Go watch some Hong Kong mahjong gambling movies. One of the movies with Stephen Chow in it had even more crazier shit than Saki.

Btw,the DVD version for this show is out in Japan already with less censorship.
I like this show a lot as it is interesting. I also like the “wtf” face of the captain of Koromo’s team when she lose twice in a row to a girl who can turn invincible.
