Feeling of Freedom

Hayate no Gotoku

I can’t ask for a more perfect adaptation. J.C. Staff is doing good work in this season of Hayate no Gotoku.

Hayate no Gotoku

Hayate no Gotoku

Hayate no Gotoku

In fact, they even animated one of the manga’s tankouban omake about Kotetsu-kun! Impressive, really. Makes for a real nice change in the trend of anime studios screwing up the adaptations.

This was nothing but wonderful. Thank you, J.C.Staff.

You know, people were SO piling on J.C.Staff in the beginning, but I couldn’t have sincerely asked for a better conversion than they did with S2 so far. Hell, I’d have settled for much less.

And devoting essentially a full episode to this key episode with Hina… I’d have never dreamed that they’d do that.

Thank you J.C.Staff. I’ll promise to shell out some cash for BluRays of your shows to show my appreciation. They earned it.

I said last week how I didn’t see how anyone could complain about JC Staff’s work on this second season. It’s true to the material, which was my biggest gripe about the first season, too many filler/nothing episodes, sometimes it worked, like the gurren lagann, ect. More often than not, I was disappointed. Now? I couldn’t be happier about it. If there’s any animation dropoff from the first series, I can’t tell. Maybe it’s just that they turn it up when i’m paying the most attention…aka hina hina hina! All they have to do is end this with Hina being the end girl, and life might actually be good for a change. I want closure, damnit! (Whether it becomes Canon or not, i’m rooting for Hina, Maria, Ayumu with Nagi far off in the distance. And please please please no harem/open end. I’m so sick of those.)

Yeah, all this Hina love is REALLY spoiling me, but I keep getting this dragging feeling that this is all fan service, and Nagi (who probably not even in the top 5 on the list of preferred Hayate pairings for me) will be the destined girl just because she follows the general tropes of first girl to have any major interaction with Hayate, “main” character besides Hayate, main person in all the OPs, etc.

I mean, with scenes like this, I get hopeful that we’ll see a nice HinaHayate ending, and I’d certainly be more than cool with a AyumuHayate or MariaHayate ending, or hell, even a SegawaHayate ending. But if we get a NagiHayate ending, I can’t say I’ll be very enthused, and if we get an open ending, I will fly to japan and choke a bitch I SWEAR.

The manga is still ongoing, so I can assure you with 100% certainty that you will NOT get a conclusive ending in S2.

However – to comfort you a bit – Hina’s chances for the ending have been constantly rising in the latest manga chapters. By now I’d almost give her even money against Nagi.

Just 1 small nitpick though, I’m sure she wasn’t sleeping while holding unto a cushion at the start of the episode. Continuity failure? XD

First time reader, first time poster ^-^

Am I the only person who is not a Hayate x Hina person? (I don’t really have a preference, I watch / read for the comedy, not the romance) I feel that this season is sorely lacking in the comedy aspect compared to season 1, and if I didn’t know any better, I would assume that JC Staff is stocked _thoroughly_ with Hayate x Hina fanboys. It’s _really_ annoying, and I like Hinagiku as a character.

I know they’re following the manga more closely than season 1 did, but you’d think they killed off Klaus, Tama, the scientist, Yukiji, and to a lesser extent, Nagi, Maria, and Hamster.

Also, my absolute least favorite characters are Miki, Segawa and Riza, so this season is really not getting it done for me. It’s not a popular opinion judging by all the other sites I’ve seen. Am I alone in the blog-o-verse, or are people not too keen on Hayate x Hina just afraid to speak up?

You’re blaming the wrong people here, because J.C. Staff is doing one of the most faithful manga adaptations ever seen in this decade (probably).

Even in the manga, after volume 7 or so, there has been an increased focus on Hinagiku and Hayate’s various tumbles with the girls, but I’ll say that this is the peak of it.

Nagi, Maria and the Hamster will get their time after this episode, notably in the Hot Springs trip arc where it touches on Ayumu’s love for Hayate and Nagi’s mother, so wait for that if you’re not as much in to Hinagiku.

Sadly enough, Klaus and Tama remain much forgotten still.

It seems questionable to me that they were able to get 7 or 8 full episodes out of the Hina Birthday arc. When you couple it with the ending song (which is just embarrassingly bad), it’s full and utter Hinagiku overload. You’d think she was the protagonist or something, or a Misaka Mikoto-type female lead, but she’s not. *Checks manga* I just don’t recall her role in the Butler’s Tiger Den being _that_ large.

Episode 14 was somewhat of an improvement – Isumi is priceless in almost all of her appearances. Is this going to be 26 or 52 episodes this time? Anyone sure?

-Still working to get caught up on the Negima manga (at #162)-

Man I love the animation of Hayate. Sure, some chars might look similiar to Shakugan no Shana, but Iunno. Hayate just looks like it has alot more depth to it.

@Anise: Why not? The Hina Birthday arc stretched over 2 volumes in the manga. Anyways, she’s already pretty much the unofficial heroine of the story, based on how she’s been sweeping up pretty much every character popularity poll for the Hayate manga.
