Cyberfusion 2009

UPDATE 9: 40 HOURS REACHED. I AM LEGEND, FUCK YEAH.
Now…. for the packing up orz…

UPDATE 8: These guys are mad. So yeah, we’re adding in another two hours to the record to make it 40 hours even. Another two hours…. problem now would be finding good enough servers on TF2….

UPDATE 7: Just past 36 hours and we’ve officially kicked the ass of the NVISION LAN party back in August. Another 2 hours or so till we reach our target of 38 hours with over 250 participants.

UPDATE 6: 3 hours and 50 mins to 38 hours. Let’s do this people!

UPDATE 5: Took a short 30 min nap around 30th hour. Feeling much better now. I shall continue my war against Russia by fielding my newly built Tanks against their Crossbowmen. Another 6 hours and 20 mins to go.

UPDATE 4: Oh god, nearly 9 hours left, but I am feeling so sleepy. I have nearly 2 hours worth of rest time stored up but I dare not use them as I’m scared I won’t come back after that. Maybe I’ll just steal a few winks in between turns/loading screens. God I so hope that the promise of free Orange Box for all the record-breakers is true as well.

UPDATE 3: Even Civ IV got boring. Currently completing my game of The Last Remnant. Glad to know that there is so many time sinks that I have. Nearly 40 hours w/o sleep… well discounting some nod-offs I had while playing Civ IV. Another 12 hours to go.

UPDATE 2: 20 hours now. Another 18 left. Oh god, I am so collapsing after this. Even L4D and TF2 get boring after nearly 18 hours of it, so the past two hours has been me playing Civ IV, the ultimate time sink game. I expect it to get me through at least another 6 hours. God bless Sid Meier and Firaxis Games.

UPDATE 1: 14 hours in. It’s lunch time now. L4D and TF2 are the only things keeping my consciousness awake. Whoever wants to try and do a L4D game with me can add me, ‘Kurogane-Cyberfusion’ on Steam. Hopefully the internet holds.

Blogging live from Cyberfusion 2009, the largest (and probably the first of its kind) LAN party in Malaysia with the aim of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest LAN party recorded.

Lots of teething issues to start with, heck we all couldn’t even get decent Internet connection until now. Four hours in to the party now with another 34 hours to hang on, and I bloody hope they’re giving us Phenom II X4’s at the end of this.

Anyways, no anime probably for the weekend, but I’ll be updating myself throughout the event.

Currently finished a crazy bout of L4D with townberry and FatCatLim, probably gonna do some Steam gaming later on. Man I sure hope I can survive.

    I’d take a Core i7 over a Phenom XII X4, but that’s just me.

I have a Core i7 920 that I got less than two weeks ago TJ, and this thing runs laps around even my friend’s Black Edition Phenom II X4. Crysis on high on one monitor while real time encoding a 720p h264 video in Adobe Premier that’s playing on my other monitor only pushed it to 70% CPU usage…

Funny that FatCatLim mentioned playing F/SN on his twitter; At the last LAN party I went to this past weekend I did the same thing when I was waiting between games.

Core i7’s still too bloody expensive over here in Malaysia. Even if I won one of them, I’d still have to spent nearly 2x its retail price on the motherboard and the RAM’s for starters.

Besides, I can be considered as “working” for the Phenom proc, with the “working” being hours of L4D, Civ IV and TF2, LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Reminds me of the time in high school when we did a 36 hours nonstop LAN with friends.
Protip : have a bed nearby. When I fell into it, I didn’t wake up for nearly 20 hours.

God bless indeed. If you get the Fall from Heaven 2 mod, the time-sink increases exponentially. :p

    I was at an all-night lan party before, and that was tiring enough. Can’t imagine going without sleep for > 48 hours. If I were you I’d prob get a good doze right before the event ^^;;

@Updates: You should have brought some visual novels or rpgs…if they’d allow bringing a PS3 because you had linux on it you could hook it up to a monitor using a HDMI to DVI cable and play Valkyria Chronicles….it’s a great time sink, even moreso if you’re a perfectionist or playing on hard.

Other options include: Finally training yourself up to Lunatic on Touhou, buying another game on Steam, or download a bunch of doujinsoft games.

Oh, and if you’re ever the server for L4D, you could always set the z_common_spawn_limit to something nuts like 300 and increase the horde size values to average around 150. That can make it really fun.

What you need to do is play some DotA. DotA can help you forget… well, EVERYTHING.

  21. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    April 12, 2009 @ 2:44 pm

    Sworn off DotA.

  22. Maggeh Said,

    April 12, 2009 @ 3:08 pm

    You crazy, crazy man. D8

If one has the luxury of playing DotA, one is meant to USE that luxury.

Look at me. I’ve got a wireless that disconnects itself every two minutes and my defective laptop just erased my Frozen Throne, and I’m miserable as hell without DotA. A man needs DotA to live, just like how otaku require the fresh blood of virgins to stay alive and vigilant to watch another episode of anime a day.

  24. Rhine Said,

So, I’m guessing directly after breaking the world record for longest LAN party you’ll break the record for most unconscious geeks within a quarter mile?

  25. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

    April 12, 2009 @ 3:36 pm

I swore off DotA after it turned in to the professional soccer equivalent of the gaming scene. I started playing it way back in 2003/4 when it was still v5.xx.

@Rhine: More like we’ll break the record of most geeks RAGE’ing if what we were promised in return for attending the LAN party is not fulfilled. They claimed that we are all gonna get AMD X2’s to X4’s for the effort. I sure hope it’s not a rickroll, ‘cuz that’s the main reason I joined in despite not being a true gamer myself and having to sacrifice a perfectly nice weekend.

Wow. That sounds like what happends here in Sweden with a big LAN party called DreamHack. But they don´t give out freebies if you manage to stay awake :p Not that I know of anyway.

After that feat I guess you´ll be spending a lot of time in bed. God knows I did that after 3 days with minimal sleep. Think 1 or 2h worth of sleep a day and not in one go either.

    But it was fun.

Hope you survived after finally passing those 40hours.

    Now get some rest boy.

  35. Akikun Said,

    April 13, 2009 @ 3:19 am

    40 hours? wow …

I will now tell you exactly what’ll happen:
You shall very soon feel a sudden pain around the area of your heart, and I strongly recommend you to cease all activity at that point and go to bed.

Same thing happened to me last time I helped a friend move to a new appartment on the third floor, went to work at the hospital for the whole night and subsequently (unwisely) decided to go to college on the next day.
