Negima! 247

Mahou Sensei Negima!

My jaw… f*cking dropped. Seriously. God damn it Negi, that is sum serious hax thar.

From double lightning absorption, close-quarters combat at lightning speed (should’ve done that from the start), his original spell ‘Titanslayer’ (damn that lightning Lance looks so awesome), luring Rakan in to a contest of strength to ABSORB his power and using it all to deal a final blow to him. Holy shit Negi, holy shit. Even Evangeline looked surprised.

Oh god I can’t wait for the next chapter.

Hmm, Negi goes GAR and went all out! His true strength, the will to never give in (whenever there’s a girl involved of course). I wonder how Asuna and Anya are doing in Fate’s dungeon…

I read that chapter about 5 times.

I wonder if rakan can stand up to his own attack? If he is a monster from a game, it should be no problem. Monsters tend to be able to take more damage than they deal…

    who cares about Anya?

negi. is just too GAR for my heart.

    rakan never expected that one…
who can blame him for using a full powered attack though…
he was faced with an attack called “titan slayer”
everything just went “keikaku doori” for negi..
he must have spent most of the time in eva’s scroll planning everything…
    great chapter…
and a release earlier than expected is always a good thing…
plus the Eva smirking is always a win…

Some of Eva’s reactions had me thinking she had a pretty good idea what Negi was up to. Definitely enjoyed the chapter and lookin’ forward to next week (perhaps we can get on with the other stuff already.. lol)

It’s nice how people don’t say: “Oh look, he’s gotten stronger… AGAIN.”. Instead, they have exclamations of excitement like Maedhros.

To think he still has his artifact at his disposal, but he just doesn’t want to use it.

Did he actually ever use that lance for anything? I don’t think it was part of the magic absorption spell (that was the huge circle) so that means he still has the lance to use for when Rakan survives this attack.

That said though, although Negi was crazy awesome in this chapter I really don’t like the long hair look. I burst out laughing when I first saw it because I honestly thought he’d just gone super-saiyan.

  16. PrYuN Said,

Sure he used his lance…. to draw out Rakan’s full strength. Nasty tactic, though for all we know the lance is merely decorative. If it is, *thumbs up* good one, Negi

Oh dear, I like how Akamatsu mixed some brain into this pure power contest! It looks brilliant, but it doesn´t feel dumb!

Btw: “The damn guy who you can stab with sword all you like and it won´t do a thing, dammit” ? What kind of nickname is this?

I think Negi used the whole fight to set this up.

The first blitz was to fool Rakan into thinking Kotaro would really go down then, which leaves Kotaro to fake a KO once only Rakan was left, at the same time, Negi’s laying down the setup for his later spells.

During the 43 seconds, Negi finishes off the spells he needed for the trap, and uses the second blitz to finish laying the mahoujin for the absorption spell. Kotaro stops faking, and glues Rakan to the floor, while Negi casts the super lightning lance. This provokes/forces Rakan into preparing his own brute force solution .

Then Negi absorbs BOTH the lightning lance AND Rakan’s attack into his fist. This probably hurts much more than Rakan’s own attack, considering that Rakan had to be wary of Jovins Tempestas Fulgorius delivered the same way, a combined attack comprising of Chilipi Astrape, Jovins Tempestas Fulgorius and Rakan’s own full power attack delivered like that should break anything that can be mustered against it.

  20. Kurogane Shiroikaze Said,

It’s obvious Negi absorbed the Titan Slayer Lance and plans to unleash it at zero-range towards Rakan. That’s the only way to make sure the damn attack connects and does the most damage. If he had hurled it, Rakan could’ve deflected it enough so that he won’t take the full damage from it. Remember he deflected Negi’s initial Jovius Tempestus?

  21. anon Said,

    April 8, 2009 @ 9:45 pm

Don’t forget that Negi’s still enhanced with the double stacked lightning speed. I bet hes planning to discharge that as well on impact.

Because if even this doesn’t work, nothing would.

Do you know what’s disappointing though, it’s the fact that he’s still a fucking 10yr old kid. It’s only the exterior that’s 15 or 16, so does this mean it’ll be the last time we see teenage bishounen Negi fighting? Since I really really don’t like shota Negi fighting. It just seems wrong somehow.

  23. FlameStrike Said,

Wow fcking awesome. There’s a key difference between the way the fights are done in Negima and average shonen manga like Bleach. In Bleach it’s really stupid, Ichigo gets beaten down utterly, and RANDOMLY OUT OF NOWHERE it’s “OH look he gets this POWA UP!”. Take the recent chapters in mind like how he suddenly went Hollow, AGAIN, and got STRONGER then his old hollow form. Like wtf? It’s like the author wrote himself into a corner and goes “Oops here’s a random power up now kick some ass”. Well I particularly dislike Bleach, I just don’t like the random power up aspect of Shonen manga. In this chapter of Negima, it was different. The fights actually somewhat follow rules. Negi doesn’t randomly “get stronger from sheer will power” he has a smart plan and innovates existing skills with new ones. You know he can absorb power via dark magic, and he makes a plan with that. You can see that he took time to develop the Lightning form for this fight, and make a contract to get an artifact. It’s much more enjoyable then the hero going “OMFG NOO I CAN’T LOSE! MY FRIENDS NEEDZ ME!” *HAAAA randomly goes Supa Sayin’ TWO*.

Nice setup, though it still depends on him having such a cheaty ability as Magia Erebia.

Imagine what happens when Eva absorbs that thing she offed Sukuna with, if absorbing those kinds of max-level spells always has emergent effects like the lightning steps. Preventing molecular agitation = invincible body? Could be lots of potential buff effects.

  27. Maggeh Said,

    @ LeDouche
Trap cards are shit when you’ve got Jinzo on the field.

You sir are going to LOVE the next chapter. Trust me ;)

  29. Gotank Said,

    April 15, 2009 @ 12:41 am

    @ Maggeh
Not if you already have the trap skill drain in play, then it’s trap > Jinzo =)

Anyways, I agree with Flamestrike. We’ve been so used to the whole shonen genre not making any logical sense that this stuff is actually quite refreshing. Though on a few occasions I was worried Negima might also be headed down this path.
