Oh, Touma WILL play a significant role in Railgun too. But there, he won’t be annoying-preaching, but rather pretty cool, helpful and reasonable. Perfect to rile up Mikoto ^_^

I hope they incorporate Touma into the new show, I’ve gotten kind of attached to that character, and to axe him out would be like …. Kei from Onegai Teacher -> Onegai Twins.

I never heard of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, but I already can’t wait, as I think that To Aru Majutsu no Index is awesome, and I would love to see a spinoff. Mai Otome was a great spinoff to Mai HiME, which I loved, so I’m expecting sort of the same thing here.

Pacing is an issue, but again, the novels are comparatively worse than the anime. At least you don’t have to wend through half a book of nonsense to extract bits of story.

Throw away the junk and there’s barely a story to tell, which is likely why the anime writers had so much trouble.

That problem is evident in the source material, characters and organizations pop out of nowhere in the earlier novels and get explained on the fly in big chunks of exposition, the anime is too well adapted in that regard.

I assume they only did it this way because they plan to animate the other 10-11 novels in the future, and less explanation will be needed.

Well, they might be faithful to the source, which might be not all that good, but still… Even putting aside all the nonsensical elements which are probably the books legacy, the show has terrible pacing, not to mention that half an hour talk during intense fights looks out of the place, to say the least. And it’s often hard to see why they talk at all, like during that fight with Misha, where Misha was silent and obviously didn’t care…
The flow doesn’t look smooth either, with transitions between the scenes often being sort of abrupt and forced. This might be related to the source as well, but come on, they should understand that on the screen it looks way worse than on paper…

I just hope they don’t turn the thing into some sorta episodic anime. That would be a major let down.
